PeopleCert and Aware: Pioneering Biometric Security in Exams

In this guest blog, LanguageCert, our UKENIC23 conference platinum partner, sets out a new approach to tackling fraudulent test-taking

PeopleCert, a global leader in examination and accreditation services, has joined forces with Aware, Inc. (NASDAQ: AWRE), to combat fraudulent test-taking.

This innovative collaboration introduces biometric authorisation, specifically utilising Aware’s Knomi solution, to fortify PeopleCert’s Know Your Customer (KYC) process, and to ensure the security and credibility of certification procedures, including LanguageCert English tests.

Proxy testing, a deceptive practice on the rise in online exams, poses significant risks. Craig Herman, CRO at Aware, warns of the dangers: ‘If not stopped, it means someone can pass a test without having the requisite skills and experience.’

PeopleCert, known for delivering millions of exams globally, has integrated Aware’s Knomi® into its eKYC identity verification process. This forward-thinking approach prevents proxy testing by collecting biometric data during registration and cross-matching it with identity documents. Suzy Gunn, COO for PeopleCert, emphasises the significance: ‘Biometric authentication is an unsurpassed measure to prevent proxy testing.’

As part of PeopleCert’s commitment to security, trust, and credibility, biometric authentication adds a crucial layer of protection. The technology not only verifies the test-taker’s authenticity but also detects any attempts by a single proxy to take multiple exams or impersonate different individuals.

This partnership signifies a transformative shift in the examination and accreditation market, setting new standards for security and safeguarding test validity globally. PeopleCert and Aware’s pioneering initiative ensures that individuals are rightly recognised for their skills and expertise, marking a significant step forward in the battle against fraudulent testing practices. The future of secure, credible exams is now a reality.
