UK NARIC and English language for immigration purposes

English LanguageUnder the immigration rules, there are five ways to prove that you meet the English language proficiency requirements:

  • being a citizen of a majority English language speaking country
  • having passed a Secure English Language Test (SELT) at the appropriate level
  • having an academic qualification that was taught in English and is recognised by UK NARIC as being equivalent to a UK Bachelor’s degree, Masters degree or PhD
  • having met the requirement in a previous grant of leave
  • or special arrangements during a transition period.

In order to satisfy the third of these requirements there are two aspects that UK NARIC has to look at:

  • is the qualification at least Bachelor level?
  • was it taught in English?

For immigration purposes the first part is relatively easy for UK NARIC to determine; all you need to send are copies of your degree certificate, transcript and diploma supplement (and translations of these documents, if they are not in English). This will enable us to do a comparison of your qualification.

The second aspect is slightly more complex. If the qualification was studied in a majority English language speaking country, then all that is required is confirmation of the level of the qualification. A normal UK NARIC qualification comparison, based on the documents above, will be fine.

If the qualification was studied elsewhere then a Medium of Instruction letter from the awarding institution needs to be sent. This confirms that the qualification was taught (or researched) in English.

What do I need to send?

When you apply to UK NARIC through the Visas and Nationality application portal you will be told what documents you need to send to us so that we are able to assess and evaluate your qualification.

Here is a list of what you need to send:

  • a photocopy or scanned version of your final certificate(s)
  • a photocopy or scanned version of your final transcript(s)
  • a photocopy or scanned version of a certified translation in English if necessary
  • payment for the service

If you are using our services to provide evidence of your English language proficiency, then we will ALSO need:

  • evidence of the medium of instruction to confirm that the qualification was taught or researched in English. In other words, a Medium of Instruction letter (an MOI letter).

We have an example on our website (PDF) for your reference.

Do I always need to send a medium of instruction letter?

The approach we have taken with our new UK NARIC Visas and Nationality service is to have an intelligent immigration-specific application portal which takes into account your circumstances and your immigration application route and then makes clear the documents you need to send us, to enable us to then issue qualification statements or English language statements as appropriate.

If the Medium of Instruction is a relevant issue, then we always ask for an MoI letter.

This ensures consistency within the process, and helps ensure its integrity, and treats all applicants in the same manner, thus it is fair.

If the logic behind the application portal detects that MoI is not relevant to an application, then it is not asked for. The application portal lists the documents that you need to upload, during the application process. MoI will be listed if it is required. MoI is not listed if it is not required.

So the position on MoI should be clear, when you apply.

If you want to check the official immigration rules, then the Home Office website is the place to go.

  1. If the final certificates are originally in English, is the MoI letter still required?

    1. Hi,

An MoI letter is a Medium of Instruction letter. This is required if you are requesting an English Language Assessment, used to demonstrate the level of English to which an overseas degree that was taught in English was taught.

For a Statement of Comparability, we require certified English translations of documents where these have not been issued originally in English. If you’re documents are already issued in English, we require scanned copies of these only.

      I hope this helps,

      UK NARIC

      1. On my application I skipped the translation letter and I should provide a reason of a maximum of 2000 characters. May you please give me some examples of the expected reasons

      2. In my transcript my univerisy mention that my MOI is english ..can I need MOI certificate?

  2. Hello,
I’m not sure if I understood it correctly. I have a UK Bachelor’s degree. Do I still need to send you a copy of my certificate?

    1. Hi,

The role of UK NARIC is to comment on overseas qualifications only. Qualifications from the UK should be presented directly to the Home Office/ UKVI for their consideration.

  3. For immigration purposes as spouse – I was taught my masters & bachelors in computers from India in English medium. Will it be sufficient if I submit my final transcripts along with medium of instruction certificate from both the universities ?
Also will I be needed to take up the English Language Test instead of just applying for statement of comparability ?
I’ve tried to research alot on this topic however haven’t found any information substantial on this topic. Please help.

    1. Hi,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

For advice on whether you require UK NARIC’s services or to take a Secure English Language Test for your visa purposes, you would need to contact the Home office/ UK Visas and Immigration or a professional Immigration Adviser; we are unable to comment on visa requirements. UKVI’s contact details can be found here:

      https://www.gov.uk/contact-ukvi/overview

Should you need UK NARIC’s services, full details of the services offered and the documents required can be found on our website here:

  4. Hi,
I intend to apply for spouse entry clearance visa (first visa to settle in the UK) for which I need to prove the English language requirements and that I am qualified to a minimum bachelors degree.
I have a 2 years BA (private) from Pakistan, in English medium. Not sure if the 2 years BA is considered as bachelors (BA) in the UK or its 3 years in the UK. Can you please suggest? I need to know if it’s worth taking the UK NARIC services, else I go and take IELTS UKVI.

    1. Hi,

      Thank you for your message.

We are unable to comment on qualifications or their comparable level via social media. You can call us on (0044) (0)871 330 7033, Monday to Friday (between 9:00am and 5:00pm), to speak to an Information Adviser and they can provide a verbal comparison and advice over the telephone. Alternatively, you can upload your documents via the online application system and a regional specialist can confirm if we are able to proceed.

  5. Hi,

I am applying for Tier 2 Genral Visa and post registration on the website with my university name and country, I have been asked to submit, degree certificate, transcripts and MOI, my certificate and transcripts have ‘Medium: English’ mentioned. Do i still need to submit the MOI?

    1. Hi,

Thank you for your comment. We do require a separate letter that has been issued by your institution (usually the central registration unit) confirming that your specific course was taught and researched solely in English. An example of such a letter can be found on our website here.

      1. Hi,

The processing time is dependent on the service requested. The majority of our services are completed within 10-15 working days, including the Statement of Comparability and English Language Assessment services; fast track options are also available for these two services only. Our Visa and Nationality service has a processing time of 5-10 working days.

Further details can be found on our website here.

I hope this is of use.

  6. Hi,

I have Masters and Ph. D. degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Mumbai. Do I still need MOI? Also, there are no transcripts for Ph. D. degrees. So, if I am submitting my Ph. D. degree certificate that should suffice for both the statement of comparability as well as MOI. Is my understanding correct? Please advise

    1. Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry. In order for us to provide an English Language Assessment, or to comment on the level of English an award was taught to, we do require a medium of instruction letter issued by the awarding institution. An example of such a letter can be found here.

In regards to your PhD, we appreciate that these often do not have transcripts, particularly if they are a research based award, therefore the certificate will usually suffice. Please note that in order to comment on a PhD, we often require the full documentation for the preceding Bachelor and Master’s (where appropriate) in order to establish the most accurate comparison.

      I hope this helps.

      1. Hi UK NARIC,

I have the degree certificate of my MBA along with the Marksheets for all years/semesters. I also have a letter from the University specifying medium of instruction as english. Do I still need to get a transcript? It is a tedious process and might require me to go to India and wait a month. Please help.
        Regards,

  7. I have completed B.Com Degree from University of Madras in 1992, now I have B.com Degree certificate and first and second year mark sheet, the final year mark sheet missing, but I need to submit UK NARIC Letter to UKBA office in Chennai in 10 days, they are waiting for it. what help can do now, otherwise they will reject my Visa. Can it possible to issue letter with Final transcript of my B.com Degree certificate which ii have. Please help me. urgent.

    1. Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry. The usual requirements for a Statement of Comparability are a copy of the final degree certificate along with a copy of the full academic transcripts/ mark sheets. Where the full documentation is not available, we do endeavour to proceed where possible, however this cannot be guaranteed. I would recommend submitting the documents you do have via the online application system and a specialist can review these to see if there is sufficient information/ documentation to provide the service.

Please note, the timeframe for completion of a standard Statement of Comparability is 10-15 working days from receipt of the completed application. We do offer fast track options for a quicker completion time.

Full details of these, and how to apply for the Statement of Comparability, can be found on our website here.

      I hope this helps.

  8. Hello

I receive an email from NARIC reminding the letter should confirm the course is taught “solely” in English. However, the sample letter just shows “the medium of instruction of the course is English” and the letter I colllect from my institute is showing these.

May I know if the words “solely in English” should appear in the letter?

    Regards
    Winson

    1. Thank you for your comment. We are unable to comment on what the specific issue with the medium of instruction letter provided is via social media; if you could please send a message through the secure user portal, an Adviser will happily investigate further and provide additional information and guidance.

  9. Hi,
I just got my statement of comparability from NARIC and my nursing degree is equivalent to UK degree. Can I use this as evidence of English Language proficiency as am from Nigeria and my course of study was in English. Also,I had a transcript from University of Brighton where I undertook my overseas nurses programme and I have been registered with NMC-UK.Can I use these documents as evidence that I studied in majority English Language country ?.

    1. Hi, we are unable to advise on how you can demonstrate your knowledge of English for visa and nationality purposes. I would recommend contacting the Home Office/ UK Visas and Immigration for further information, or a qualified Immigration Adviser. We do offer an English Language Assessment, which is a separate service that can comment on the level of English to which your Nigerian degree was taught, however I would recommend checking with the Home Office/ UKVI to see if this is required alongside your Statement of Comparability.

    2. Haii ..good afternoon ..I want NARIC euvalent certificate of diploma in civil engineering from india…can u advise..where I want to apply.?..how much time take take..?

      1. Hi, thank you for your comment. A Statement of Comparability can confirm the level of your overseas qualification to the UK’s qualifications frameworks. Full details of the service can be found on our website here.

The fee for the service is £46.00 + VAT (£55.20) plus your chosen delivery option. The estimated timescale for completion is 10-15 working days.

  10. Afternoon. I have a BA (hons) degree in English and Communication and l am also a holder of a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Intermediate and Senior phase). I would like to inquire if a medium of instruction letter from my university is required for my qualifications to be assessed for teaching.

    Thank you

    1. Hi, a medium of instruction letter is only required if you need us to comment on the level of English to which your qualification(s) were taught. This is usually for visa purposes only, however I would recommend checking with training providers/ potential employers for advice. For further information on teaching in England, please contact the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL); their details can be found here.

Yes you will need an MOI letter. We will always request an MOI letter, as we need it to prove you were taught and assessed in English language.

  11. Hi,
Is CFA designation from CFA Institute enough to prove English sufficiency for UK naturalisation?
    Thanks
    Ayesha

    1. Hi,

We are unable to advise on different methods of proving your knowledge of English for visa purposes and recommend you contact the Home Office, UKVI or a qualified Immigration Adviser for further information.

Our English Language Assessments/ Visa and Nationality services are for academic awards only; we are not able to comment on the level of English associated with a professional qualification.

Further information about the visa tiers and routes, including the documents required, can be found on the Home Office’s website here.

  12. Hi,
I have a consolidated mark-sheet of my Master’s degree, and on its back side the guidelines says – “Medium of instruction, evaluation and examination English”.

Please suggest do i still need MOI letter from university.

    Thanks!

    1. Hi, thank you for your comment.
We do still require a separate medium of instruction letter that has been issued to you personally to confirm that the course you studied when you studied was taught solely in English.

      1. The mark sheet/transcript is very much personal to me. It has my all semester credits and final cgpa mentioned. I am not pointing anything wrong but just raising my concern. University has already taken care of it by mentioning it on the back side of transcript. Please suggest!

  13. Hello I am applying for British citizenship and I hold an Italian degree in English language. (2003)

Do I need to get the UK Naric comparability test? The English modules were all taught in English (literature, linguistics and language).
Or is it just enough to provide a certificate directly to the Home Office?

  15. Hi,
I have a PhD degree from Spain. However I have already obtained UK Naric certificates for my Bachelor and Master degrees which were taught in India about English language assessment and academic qualification statement. I would be grateful if you could let me know if these certificates suffice the requirement for TIER 2(Gen.) visa as they mention the english level to be equivalent to CEFR level B1 same as on UKVI website. I suppose I don´t need all my certificates(PhD in this case) to be evaluated by UK Naric.
    Many Thanks
    Nishant

    1. Dear Nishant,

Please note that UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and that we are unable to advise on visa requirements or the tier and/or route for which you may be applying.

For further information on visa and immigration requirements, you would need to contact the Home Office directly. Their website is https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigrationhttps://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration

I hope this information is helpful.

      Kind regards

    2. Hi

I am also applying for Tier 2 (general) with PhD from Germany and certificate of sponsorship from UK university. Is it necessary that all the certificates be evaluated by UK NARIC? Please share your experiences!

      Best regards,
      Shakun

      1. Hi Shakun,
        Thank you for your post.

UK NARIC is the National Agency responsible for providing information and advice about vocational, academic and professional skills and qualifications from all over the world. We provide information about the equivalency of qualifications and skills from overseas to the UK’s national qualifications frameworks.

Our Visas and Nationality service is an alternative to an IELTS, if you have a degree of Bachelors, Masters or Phd level that was solely taught in the medium of English, from an overseas institution. This can be used as evidence of your English proficiency, where requested for your specific application.

As we are a separate organisation from the Home Office we are unable to advise on requirements for the visa application process. We recommend you contact the Home Office directly for more information. Their website is https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration

  16. Hi,

I will apply for a Tier 2 general visa. I am a Chinese and hold a PhD degree from Virginia Tech, USA. I requested both an academic qualification and an English language assessment, but NARIC only sent me an academic qualification, no English language assessment. Is that enough for my visa application?

    Sincerely,

    Guanchen

    1. Dear Guanchen,

Please note that UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and that we are unable to advise on visa requirements or the tier and/or route for which you may be applying.

For further information on visa and immigration requirements, you would need to contact the Home Office directly. The UKVI Telephone number is 0300 1232253

However, in relation to our service, as your qualification has been awarded in a country that is on the Home Office list of English exempt countries, we would not comment on the level of English proficiency.

I hope this information is helpful.

      Kind regards
      UK NARIC

      1. Dear,

Thank you for your reply. The information is very helpful.

Thus, generally, NARIC does not provide an English language assessment to a Ph.D. degree in the USA, but only provide an academic qualification. Is that true?

I have requested for both of the documents but only get an academic qualification.

        Sincerely,

        Guanchen Li

  17. I have a CIPD certificate on Human Resources and Development Management from a British college. Would this certificate be recognised by UKNARIC in order to get a letter as proof of English for my British Naturalusation application? Thank you in advance!

    1. Hi,

      Thank you for your comment.

The role of UK NARIC is to comment on overseas qualifications; we do not comment on UK qualifications and these should be presented directly to the Home Office for their consideration.

I have already completed City & Guilds Graduate Diploma in Civil Engineering .is this Qualification OK with the FHEQ (graduate ,degree level).& Can I Apply UK MSc from this Qualification.

    1. Thank you for your comment.

As your qualification has been awarded by a UK awarding body it is outside of our remit to comment on this award. However, the following link should assist you with the comparable level of your award in the UK : https://www.gov.uk/what-different-qualification-levels-mean/overview

  19. I am applying for General Visa Tier 2 under Temporary Worker- Skilled Job for Six months.
As far for Knowledge for English, it states either submit academic qualification equivalent to UK NARIC or passing an approved English language test with at least CEFR level B1 in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Am I right?

Now with respect to academic qualification , is there any way where I could check that my academic qualifications (I have all required documents- transcripts, certificate as well as MOL) are be qualified enough before sending the documents to UK NARIC and doing the payment? As the website doesn’t mention whether would it be 100% refunded incase it’s not approved?

Other thing is with respect to CEFR test, I have deaf disability, would I receive accommodation w.r.t Listening Skill? Also I am not clear, even for six months short term work experience ,whether I would need to necessarily apply for that CEFR test ? It leads me back to General Visa Tier 2 after I went through questionnaire “which visa should I apply” , it shows me temporary worker under skilled job which I am not clear whether it’s for short term work experience.

I hope you have site/ any means/ medium for the deaf as I find my email are not answered clearly to my satisfaction with the information held.

    1. Dear Eddy,

      Thank you for your comment.

As we are not immigration advisers we would be unable to clarify what visa you would require for your upcoming employment. These specific questions would need to be answered directly by the Home Office. The following email address should be able to answer your questions: ApplyOnlineE-Support@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk

However, you can apply for our service initially without paying and our specialists can check whether your qualification would meet the requirements of our service. At the payment section of our application form you can click ‘other payment methods’ and your application will then be checked by a specialist.

      I hope this helps.

      UK NARIC

      1. I have sent all the documents for statement for comparability as well as english assessment using other payment methods to get services initially approved as per as earlier reply section.Once approved, I would proceed with further requirements. I once again, request you to kindly check whether my qualifications meets up the requirements of your service.

  20. Hi UK NARIC,
I have the degree certificate of my MBA along with the Marksheets for all years/semesters. I also have a letter from the University specifying medium of instruction as english. Do I still need to get a transcript? It is a tedious process and might require me to go to India and wait a month. Please help.
    Regards,
    Manmeet

    1. Thank you for your comment Manmeet.

The transcript/ mark sheet words are interchangeable. Providing that you hold mark sheets for all years of study this should suffice our requirements.

      I hope this helps.

      1. Awesome, thank you so much for quick response.

I have one more question. I have entered details of my 2 qualifications, Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree. I now have all the 3 documents viz. Marksheets, Degree and Medium of Instruction for my Masters Degree. I have not managed to get the medium of instruction letter for my bachelor’s degree. But it is quite a renowned institute of India (world Rank 313).

Do I necessarily need the letter for my bachelors degree if I have a letter of instruction for my masters degree?

    1. I am exactly in the same situation now, Could you please tell me if you are able to proceed with the Masters Certificates alone. I don’t have the degree certificate medium of Instruction letter. Any pointers would be really helpful.

      Thanks,
      Ramya

      1. Dear Ramya

        Thank you for your comment.

We recommend that you check with the Home Office UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) if you need a statement from UK NARIC for your particular immigration application and your particular situation (and if any additional paperwork or evidence is necessary). UKVI (and not UK NARIC) has the final word on all these matters.

Please visit our website and Take the Red Route for Visas and Nationality to read further about the Service that we provide.

To provide this service we do require all of the following documents for each of the qualifications you would like to be included:
        – Final Certificate
        – Full Academic Transcripts / Mark Sheets
        – A Medium of Instruction Letter from the Awarding Institution

I hope this information is of assistance to you. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

  22. Dear UK NARIC,

I need to apply for the Tier-2 visa for which I need to provide the proof of English language proficiency. I need a CEFR level B1 in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Please let me know if UK NARIC assesses this particular level (CEFR level B1) of English proficiency.

    Thanks & regards,

    Sudipa

    1. Dear Sudipa,

      Thank you for your comment.

The Visas and Nationality service via our ‘red route’ is the recommended route for all visa purposes as this is the designated service supporting individuals applying for UK visas or for settlement in the UK, provided by UK NARIC on behalf of the Home Office. Based on your immigration tier and route we can provide you with a document that will confirm the comparability of your award and if applicable the English proficiency. In order to complete this service we require a final certificate, academic transcript and a medium of instruction letter from the awarding institution that confirms the degree course has been taught solely in English. This service is completed within ten working days but there is no fast track facility available. Further information regarding this service can be found here:

      I hope this helps.

UK NARIC is the National Agency responsible for providing information and advice about vocational, academic and professional skills and qualifications from all over the world. We provide information about the equivalency of qualifications and skills from overseas to the UK’s national qualifications frameworks.

Please note that UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and that we are unable to advise on visa requirements or the tier and/or route for which you may be applying.

For further information on visa and immigration requirements, you would need to contact the Home Office directly. Their website is https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration

I hope this information is of assistance to you. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

      Kind regards
      UK NARIC

  24. Two questions:

I have a bachelors degree and a masters degree both from Mumbai university. Do I need to submit transcripts, medium of instruction letter, etc for both the degrees or only for masters will suffice?

Trancripts are issued by my college which is affiliated to the university. You don’t need the transcripts issued directly by the university correct? I have degree certificates that are issued by the university but transcripts issued by my college.

    1. Dear Vishal,

      Thank you for your comment.

We would need to see the final certificate, full transcripts and mediom of instruction letter for both of your awards (Bachelor and Master degree). The transcripts can be issued by the affiliated college, however the medium of instruction letter should be issued by the central registry office of the University of Mumbai.

I hope this is of assistance. If you have any other queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

      Kind regards,
      UK NARIC

    2. Hi

I submitted all my documents and made payment on 22nd May (V4000108499). However, I was told today that I need to upload marksheets issued by the university as college transcripts are not acceptable which id contrary to what I was told here back in April.

I have uploaded the marksheets issued by university as well today. My only concern is that my assessment should not get delayed because of this as clearly I was provided incorrect information.

Please consider this case and count the processing days from 22nd May and not 30th May.

      Thanks
      Vishal Tilani

      1. Hi Vishal,

  25. Dear Team,
I am in the process of seeking UK NARIC to get Tier 2 visa. I have below documents with me –
    1. medium of instruction letter from my university
    2. original degree certificate
    3. marksheets for all 4 years – total 8 marksheets.

The university didn’t provide us with consolidated mark sheet, kindly advice if i can upload 8 marksheets along with MOI & scanned copy of degree certificate

    1. Dear Kumar,

      Thank you for your comment.

As we are social media account we are unable to comment on document formats or qualifications. However, you can send us a message through your online account or give us a call on (0044) (0)871 330 7033, Monday to Friday (between 9:00am and 5:00pm) to speak to one of our Information Advisers who can help you.

From your comment, it seems like you have got the academic transcripts for the whole duration of study and this should suffice.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,
      UK NARIC

      1. Dear Team,
Thanks for the clarification, my query was how to upload 8 mark sheets specifically in the registration portal. Should I zip them as a single file & upload it?
        Kindly suggest.

  26. Hi,

Hope you can help me with my query.
I have my qualification from Spain and in Portugal, Degree in Biological Science but not in English. I’m already working in the UK since 2013. Which are the steps to follow in order for me to complete the English language requirements?

    1. Hi Cecilia,

English Language Assessments give a level of English Proficiency on the CEFR Scale. To provide this service you must hold an award from overseas that is equivalent to a UK Bachelor, Masters or Phd Award that was solely taught in the medium of English. If your degree was not taught entirely in English, then we would not be able to provide you with the service and you may wish to consider a Secure English Language Test (SELT) such as an IELTS or TOEFL test.

Please be aware that English Language Assessments give a level of English Proficiency on the CEFR Scale. They will not comment on the academic level of your award within the UK Framework. If you would like to benchmark the academic level of your award within the UK Framework, you may wish to use our Statement of Comparability service to do so.
Further details can be found on our website:

      http://ecctis.co.uk/naric/individuals/

      I hope this information helps.

      Kind regards,
      UK NARIC

  27. Hi,
I’m Indian, I hold masters from Rutgers university from USA. Do I need a letter from Naric to prove equivalent level of degree for Naturalization (prove knowledge of English) ?
    Thank you.

    1. Hi Lina,

      Thank you for your comment.

Visas and Nationality statements confirm your academic qualification level and/or English language proficiency – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route.

If you have a degree from a majority English speaking country, for example USA, it is not necessary for you to have the English Language Assessment part of the service.

English Language Assessments are for applicants who have Degrees taught solely in English but completed in non-majority English speaking countries, for example India.

As such your assessment should just have the Academic comparison of the award. This is sufficient as proof of English proficiency as it is from a majority English speaking country.

For more information, please visit our website:
      https://www.naric.org.uk/visas%20and%20nationality/Default.aspx

I hope this information is of assistance to you. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

      Kind regards,
      UK NARIC

  28. Thank you for your response. I have 2 questions –

Do I need an academic comparison to prove my English proficiency or my degree will be enough for the naturalisation application ?

Also for academic comparison, what all documents do you need and how much time will it take for the assessment ?

    Thanks.

    1. Dear Lina,

To provide this service we do require the following documents for each of the qualifications you would like to be included:

      Final Certificate

Full Academic Transcripts / Mark Sheets

As your Degree was completed within a majority English speaking country (USA) you may be exempt from proving your level of English Language.

The turnaround time for the Visas and Nationality service is 10 working days from the date of receipt of all required documentation and payment. Please note that this timeframe does not include delivery time and cannot be guaranteed. In some cases, such as those requiring additional research, the process may take longer and the applicant will be informed.

      I hope this information helps.

      Kind regards,
      UK NARIC

  29. Thank you for responding. Do I still need academic comparison of my award to prove english proficiency if my degree was from the USA or my degree certificate is enough? If yes, what all documents are required to process the assessment (academic comparison) ?
    Thanks.

  30. Hi,
Im doing a visa applications for my fiance whos from india, she currently holds two degrees taught in english from Mumbai university india. Can I send her degree certificates and pay the application fees from my account on her behalf to obtain the english test exemption certificate?

Will i be able to pay the application fee by debit card?

    thank you

    Nik

    1. Dear Nik

      Thank you for your enquiry.

If you require any UK NARIC services for another person, you will need to create a new application using a different email address.

There can only be one applicant per online application. Any other applicants will need their own application, and will be given a separate reference number.

You can set this up on their behalf and list yourself as a third party so that you are authorised to deal with the orders on their behalf.

      Kind regards,

      UK NARIC

  31. for the visa purpose I wanted to apply for the English Language Assessment test. In UK naric, it is stated that the medium of instruction letter is needed. I did my
degree in India and now I am in Sri Lanka and I could not go to India right now as I am working here. Hence, I wanted to ask can I submit a”transfer certificate” from my college (affiliated to university of Madras) in which the medium of instruction in English is stated. If you need the letter , can I get a letter from my college stating it is affiliated to Madras University or you need the letter from the university itself?

    1. Dear Prasi

      Thank you for your enquiry.

Applicants are required to provide a written statement to confirm the medium of instruction issued by the awarding Institution directly. The letter needs to be presented in an official letter format.

We require evidence of the medium of instruction of your degree from the university’s central administration unit / registry.

Please follow this link to find a link of an example of a Medium of Instruction Letter https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/English%20Language%20Assessment.aspx

  32. Hi,
I have a degree from University of London (UOL) in association with LSE but I have achieved this as an external student through UOL’s international program. It does say on my degree that I have achieved this as an external student but also says that the degree has been attained with the same academic standard irrespective of place or mode of study. Will my degree still need to approved by Uk Naric to be submitted for a uk naturalisation application?

    1. Dear Heena

      Thank you for your comment.

UK NARIC is the National Agency responsible for providing information and advice about vocational, academic and professional skills and qualifications from all over the world. We provide information about the equivalency of qualifications and skills from overseas to the UK’s national qualifications frameworks.

Here at UK NARIC we are only able to vouch for the standing of awarding bodies provided they have accreditation / recognition by the relevant authorities in the country of origin. With regard to UK qualifications, UK NARIC can comment on professional qualifications awarded by certain organisations only. Any other qualifications, provided they are referenced against the National Qualifications Framework, should be automatically recognised in the UK.

If you are looking to apply for a visa, then in order to discuss your UK Award further you will need to contact the Home Office directly.

I hope this information is of assistance to you. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

      Kind regards,

      UK NARIC

      1. Thank you very much for your response. I am looking to make an application for British citizenship. I was awarded a graduate degree (BSc in Banking and Finance) from the University of London so I would imagine this would not fall under professional qualifications in UK? Could you please elaborate on what do you mean by ‘referenced against the National Qualifications Framework’? Is there a way I can figure this out from my degree or transcript? or should I contact the university for this?

        Thanks again.

      2. Hi Heena,

To discuss your UK Award further you will need to contact the Home Office directly. To find out if the award is recognised in the UK you will need to speak with the awarding institution directly.

        Kind Regards,
        UK NARIC

  33. Hi
My Official Transcripts states the Medium of Instruction is English.
Do I still need an MOI certificate?

    1. Dear Sahil,

      Thank you for your comment.

Yes, we would require a separate medium of instruction letter than confirms the level of English proficiency. We have found that information on a transcript can be template and not tailored to the course in question.

      Kind regards

      UK NARIC

    1. Hi AFUA,

Unfortunately we are unable to provide comparability statements by email. We can give a verbal comparison over the phone but all our assessments are sent out as a hard copy in the post.

      Many thanks,
      UK NARIC

  34. Hi,

I have paid for “Visas and Nationality Service” on 29-July-2017.

Could you please provide the information on what document(s)/certificate(s) I am going to get through the service I paid for, viz a viz “Statement of Comparability”, “English Language Assessment” etc

I am going to apply for Tier 2 General Visa.

    Thank you.

    1. Dear Mumbai Chapter,

The new VisasAndNationality service replaces the Home Office UKVI Points-Based Calculator web pages. This is the new designated service supporting individuals applying for UK visas or for settlement in the UK, provided by UK NARIC on behalf of the Home Office. These statements confirm your academic qualification level and/or English language proficiency – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route.

I hope this information is of assistance to you. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

      Kind regards,
      UK NARIC

  35. Hi

I need to verify my academic qualification level and/or English language proficiency.
I have my master degree ( completely taught in English) from Germany. My final degree certificate has both English and its equivalent German description. All the wordings in the certificate is repeated in both English and German. In this case do I need to have a separate translated document as the certificate itself have all the details also in English?

Regarding MOI, It was mentioned that it is usually issued by central registration unit, but from my university I received a the MOI signed by the ´head of examination board´. When I discussed about this. they informed there no separate administrative unit and the head of the examination board is responsible for the issue of degree, transcripts and certificate. So I hope the letter signed by the head of examination department of the university with the university stamp will be considered.

    1. Hi Anil,

      Thanks for the message.

If you are presenting bilingual documentation that has been issued by your University then a separate certified English translation will not be necessary. With regards to the MOI Letter; we would be able to accept this when issued by the head of examinations at the awarding institution. Please follow this link to find a link of an example of a Medium of Instruction Letter https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/English%20Language%20Assessment.aspx

  36. Dear Mr/Ms,

Upon receiving the statements from UK Naric to validate my qualifications fulfill the English requirement for Tier 2 visa requirement, will the statements from UK NARIC be sent to me as original statements by post or PDF documents? When I submit to Home Office for visa application, are these statements from UK NARIC sent as printed version of the PDF or original statements mailed to me from UK NARIC?
    Thank you.

    1. Hi Wen,

Our assessments are always dispatched as a hard copy in the post by your chosen delivery method and to your chosen delivery address. From our understanding the Home Office will only accept the original document posted by UK NARIC.

      Many thanks,
      UK NARIC

      1. Hi UK NARIC,
I have applied using fast track service to obtain electronic copies of Statement of Comparability and English Language Assessment. As I am in a rush to apply for a Tier 2 Visa, may I use these printed electronic copies to submit to UKVI? Also, I applied these statements under the blue route, are these statements acceptable for visa application purpose or must I re-apply using red route (Visa and Nationality service)? The reason I applied the blue route was for its fast track option and electronic copies. Thank you.

      2. HI Wen
I recently applied to tier 2 general visa using the blue route. It’s acceptable and does not need any further clarifications.

      3. Hi again Sahil,
sorry to bother you again. My UK NARIC statements have yet to arrive in original copies to my address but I have electronic copies of these statements as I applied for fast track service.Have you heard or know of applicants with experience that the printed electronic copies are acceptable at VFS to be scanned to Home Office? Reason being is I have to apply for my visa soon to meet the start date of my work. Any information will help me tremendously. Thank you

      4. HI
I told you everything gets scanned. They verify the docs with UK naric. As far as I know, the electronic ones are washed off, so it will be better to wait for originals. If your electronics one is in good colour, you can print and use them and wait for originals otherwise.
Their service is too good so u will not have to wait more than 3 days.
This time of the year is filled with large no of applications so don’t hurry as it’s going to take a long time for the visa any which ways.
I applied for priority visa with an extra fee but still after 15 working days waiting for a reply.

      5. Hi Sahil,

Thank you for your reply and assurance. Did you submit 1. a printed copy or photocopied of the UK NARIC statements, 2. original academic transcript and original medium of instruction letter at the visa application center, and the visa center will post these with your passport to the UK? Reason for my asking is that I am using my academic transcript and UK NARIC statements as proof of English language proficiency as part of the English requirement for Tier 2 General visa. Thank you.

      6. HI Wen
Every document has to be A4, if it’s not possible like in my case degree certificate then u can give copy otherwise original.
Let me tell you that the vfs office will scan ur documents and send to the immigration office, so u will get ur documents back at the same instance of time, so no worries of losing originals.

SO submit everything possible in original as that will make scans easy for the vfs office.

      7. Initially, I thought I have to submit all originals including passport when at VFS, and VFS will send all to UK Home Office for processing. This was because I noted on UKVI website that it requested, UK NARIC Statement of comparability and English language assessment, original degree certs, academic transcript and MOI to be original which led to my confusion. Thanks for sharing about the scanning method at VFS.

    2. Hi Wen, I am under similar situation and I need it urgently – Did you finally wait for the originals to arrive or go ahead with the pdf version.

Thank you so much in advance!

      Heena

      1. Hi Heena and wen
Can i please ask if you received any soft copies/PDF versions ? If yes, when or how did u get it?
and also did u guys apply for red or blue route?
P.S i am also stuck in the same boat. any help will be appreciated

      2. Hi

        Thank you for the message.

The Visas and Nationality Service provides both an Academic Qualification Level Statement (AQUALS) and/or English Language Proficiency (ELPS) – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route. Please visit our website and Take the Red Route for Visas and Nationality for further information and to apply for this service.

Whilst we would recommend the Visa and Nationality ‘Red Route’, it is to our understanding there will be a grace period where the Home office will still be accepting our ‘Blue Route’ assessments which are designed for work and study purposes – the Statement of Comparability and English Language Assessments.

We have not been advised of any deadline for this grace period and as far as we are currently aware, both the Blue & Red route statements should be accepted by the Home Office / UKVI equally.

Please note however, the Jersey Customs & Immigration Service had advised they are only accepting the Visa and Nationality red route statements. Therefore, you may wish to contact the Home Office or the particular department where you are applying to directly for further clarity.

        UK NARIC

  37. Hello
I’m a Bahraini citizen applying for a job as a doctor in the U.K. I was required to take some exams to get my registration and license to practice. One of the exams was the IELTS- academic, which I took and scored the required marks. In order to work in the U.K., I have to apply for a Tier 2 visa that requires IELTS UKVI. A friend of mine told me that she used this website to get an equivalence of the IELTS so she didn’t have to take the UKVI again.
Can you please guide me through the process? Thank you.

    1. Hi Tasneem,

      Thanks fo rthe message.

We offer a service on behalf of the Home Office called the Visas and Nationality Service. To meet the requirements for UK NARIC to be able to provide this service you must hold a degree of Bachelors, Masters or Phd level from an overseas institution that was solely taught in the medium of English. Unfortunately, we do not provide a comparison of an IELTS Test score. We base our assessment son overseas awards, not language tests.

      Many thanks,
      UK NARIC

  38. Hi, could you please share with me whether weneed to submit the original statements (English Language Assessment and Statement of Comparability) issued and posted to us from UK NARIC to Home Office for Tier 2 (General) visa application?

Or are we able to submit a photocopied/printed copy and bring along the original statements for verification at the visa application centre? Please note that I am applying my visa outside of UK.

Secondly, will UK NARIC sent a PDF copy via email if we are applying outside of UK?

    Thank you in advance.

    1. Hi Wen,

Form our understanding the Home Office will require the original hard copies of the assessments. Please note that UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and so you may wish to direct this question to the UKVI Department, their phone number is 0300 123 2253.

      Many thanks,
      UK NARIC

  39. Hi, I completed my PhD in France and I did my masters and under graduation from India (my MoI is English). Now I am going for post doc in UK. can you please guide me, Do I need to get certificate from NARIC regarding the English knowledge? Thanks.

    1. Hi Mangalaa,

      Thanks for the comment.

UK NARIC provide an assessment of overseas awards to the UK framework and we also offer English Assessments which give a level of English on the CEFR Scale. You can apply for these services online at – https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/

UK NARIC cannot advise directly on your exact requirements for your future studies or employment here in the UK. You will need to contact the admitting institutions or professional bodies directly to seek advise on entry requirements.

      I hope this helps,
      UK NARIC

    2. Hi mangala,
Did you processed your visa. I do have the same confusion like you had. Could you please tell me whether I should get certificate from NARIC for getting visa for post doctoral research.

  40. Hello,
I have completed my Bachelors in Engineering in 2004 and MBA in 2009 in India. Both courses were taught and assessed in English. I am unable to collect the Final Certificate for both these courses, but do have the complete transcripts and MOI from each university. Is this enough for the Statement of Comparability and English Assessment Tests? Is there an additional document I can collect or provide in lieu of the Final Certificate?

I do not stay in India anymore and collecting these certificates from the university is time consuming and could take up to two months. I do not have that kind of time.

    Please advise!

    1. Dear Hozefa,

      Thank you for your comment.

If you are unable to provide the final certificate we may be able to proceed based on a ‘no final certificate’ disclaimer. This does not affect the outcome of your assessment but we are merely commenting on the documentation you have been able to present. We should be able to use this disclaimer if your transcripts confirms completion. When you are completing the online application we advise you to mention that you do not have your final certificates in the application notes section, as our specialists will request the final certificate usually as standard.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards

      UK NARIC

      1. Hello UK NARIC,

Thank you for your super prompt reply.

When you say, “This does not affect the outcome of your assessment but we are merely commenting on the documentation you have been able to present”; are the chances high that the assessment will be come back negative? Along with the transcripts, the MOI of both universities also states that I was a student in that college and successfully completed my course and hence was awarded my degree.

Do you think that would be sufficient (i.e. The course was assessed in English and that I have successfully completed my degree as per the transcripts and the MOI)?

        Thanks for your help!

  41. Hi, I’m applying for tier 2 visa (general). UK NARIC has approved of my Bachelor’s degree under the visa and nationality service and have provided CEFR B1 level for my master’s and doctorate degree. Is it enough to get the visa, provided all other documents that I will submit with my visa application are correct?

    1. Hi Pikakshi,

I am in a similar situation. UK NARIC has approved of my Bachelor’s degree under the visa and nationality service and have provided CEFR B1 level for my master’s degree. Was this sufficient for your T2 general?

  42. Hi UK Naric Team,

I have completed my Bachelors in Sciences in 1996 in India. Medium of instruction of all my courses for my Bachelors degree was English. All my mark-sheets (transcripts) and Degree is in English.

I am staying in US from past 4 years; do I still need to submit MOI? I don’t have the same currently with me and to get these I need to travel to India. Is this a mandatory requirement to submit MOI?

Please advice as I would be applying for Tier 2 (General) category VISA from US only.

    Regards..

    1. Hi Ravi,

Although some Transcripts or Final Certificates mention the medium of instruction as English, applicants are now required to provide a written statement to confirm the medium of instruction.

You can contact the Awarding Institution directly and request this document. The letter needs to be presented in an official letter format.

We require evidence of the medium of instruction of your degree from the university’s central administration unit / registry .

Please follow this link to find a link of an example of a Medium of Instruction Letter https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/English%20Language%20Assessment.aspx

      Hope this helps.

I did my Masters in Engineering from one of the premier Indian institutes. My Masters Degree Transcript mentions about the course being taught in English. Do you still need a separate MOI letter ?

    Thanks

    1. Hi DN,

      Thank you for your message.

      Many thanks,

      UK NARIC

  45. Hi. I have been offered a postdoc position in the UK. Do I need to submit MoI letters from all three universities that I have attended (B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD), for the NARIC verification?

    1. Hi Abhinav,

      Thanks for your comment.

If you are applying to UK NARIC for a service which will comment on English Language Proficiency then we would require a Medium of Instruction Letter (MOI) for each award you would like assessing as part of this service.

If you are just applying for a comparison of your overseas awards to the UK Framework through our Statement of Comparability service then an MOI is not required.

To review all our services please visit – https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/

      Many thanks,

      UK NARIC

      1. Dear UK NARIC

I have started my application procedure. I had initially opted for 2 services – Statement of Comparability and English Language Assessment. However, I have discovered that I need only the English Language Assessment. But I am unable to uncheck the Statement of Comparability in the SERVICES tab. Is there any way to do it. i.e. to re-start the application afresh?

      2. Hi Abhinav,
Please send a message on your online application and we would be happy to assist in swapping your services for you.
        Many thanks,
        UK NARIC

    2. Dear Abhinav

I hope you don’t mind helping me with a query. I have been offered a research associate position and according to the Tier 2 requirements, it is only stated that I need to show my English requirement. It does not mention anything about doing the qualifications comparability. Are you going to the UK under the Tier 2 sponsorship as well? If so, how did you confirm that you only need to do the English requirement? And did you go through the Blue route or the Red Route via NARIC? I am confused as to which route to use

      Thank you

      Regards
      Sabrina

      1. Hi Sabrina,

The English requirement is met through the academic comparison of a degree level award from a majority English speaking country. We would recommend using the Red Route service. The Visas and Nationality Service costs £125 + VAT (£150) and is a 10 Working Day turnaround. Please visit our website and Take the Red Route for Visas and Nationality to read further about the Service that we provide. These statements confirm your academic qualification level and/or English language proficiency – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route. The new security-enhanced statements present clearly all the key information regarding your qualification(s)(about your qualifications, country of study etc) required by UKVI immigration case workers.

        Many thanks,
        UK NARIC

      2. Dear UK NARIC

Thanks so much for your prompt response. I shall use the red route as suggested

        Regards
        Sabrina

  46. Hi, i was just refused a fiance settlement visa for the sole reason that i do not meet the English language requirement.

Now am confused because i had a student visa which enabled me to acquire an MSC from the University of Portsmouth UK, meanwhile my BSC was in a Nigeria University.

Do i lay a complaints to get this reversed or does having a UK masters degree not equate to satisfying the English eligibility.

Does Masters in a UK university satisfy the English language requirements?

    1. Hi Alexander,

We provide documentation on behalf of the Home Office for Visas and Nationality purposes. However, to meet the requirement s of this service you need to hold a UK Equivalent degree of Bachelors, Masters or Phd level from overseas which was taught solely in the medium of English. Unfortunately, if you do not meet these requirements you do not qualify for this service.

To discuss your UK Award further you will need to contact the Home Office directly. From our understanding a completed Masters from a UK University should satisfy your English requirement.

      Thanks,
      UK NARIC

  47. Dear NARIC

I have a Graduate Certificate of Higher Education (GCHE) awarded by Monash University (Australia). Would this suffice as proof of my English Requirement?

    Thank you

    Regards
    Sabrina

    1. Hi Sabrina,

You will need to prove the academic level of your award to the Home Office. UK NARIC Visas and Nationality statements confirm your academic qualification level and/or English language proficiency – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route.

You can learn more about our service here – https://www.naric.org.uk/visas%20and%20nationality/Default.aspx

      Kind Regards,
      UK NARIC

  48. Dear Naric,
I’m Swedish and have a Certificate in Language Teaching to Adults from Goldsmiths University in London and I’m trying to fill in an application for naturalisation. How do I know whether this is a valid certificate as proof of my English language requirement? Thank you

    1. Dear David,

      Thanks for the comment.

Here at UK NARIC we are only able to vouch for the standing of awarding bodies provided they have accreditation / recognition by the relevant authorities in the country of origin. 49. Hi, I’ve received scanned copies of my UK NARIC certificates but waiting for the original ones. I’m somehow in a rush, and wondering if the UK immigration accepts photocopies? Or they strictly need the original copies?
Any reply would be highly appreciated. I’m applying for Tier-2 (General) from Edmonton, Canada with Indian passport. Thanks.

    1. Hi CK,

      Thank you for your comment.

You will need to contact the case worker or Home Office directly to enquire as to whether a scanned copy would be accepted. From our understanding they require the hard copy as part of their application process. To enquire further about your assessments you can contact us through your online portal or via phone. You can call us on (0044) (0)871 330 7033, Monday to Friday (between 9:00am and 5:00pm), to speak to an Information Adviser and they will be happy to discuss this with you further.

      Kind Regards,

      UK NARIC

  50. What do you mean the certificate solely taught in english .is it the same if certificate of medium of instruction.thank you for the speedy reply. Kind regards.

  51. hi i am a specialist doctor from Pakistan, i have valid academic IELTS 7.5 score (not ukvi), recently got GMC UK registered, my basic medical qualification was in English so was specialist qualification. what documents do i need to submit? as i have letters of medium from both but specialist training is most recent. should i send scanned copy of IELTS also?
    thanks

    1. Hi Aftab,

      Thanks for the comment.

For us to provide a service that comments on your English Proficiency level on the CEFR Scale you will need to present an award that was taught solely in English and is equivalent to a UK Bachelors, Masters or Phd level. To provide the service we require the following documents relatin gto said award:

      – Final certificate
      – Transcript/Mark Sheet for each year of study
      – Medium of Instruction Letter

      Kind Regards,

      UK NARIC

  52. Hi

i have a HND (Higher national diploma)upper credit in Chemistry from Nigeria, can i use it for my settlement visa in regards to the English language proficiency requirements.

    1. Hi Sodiq,

      Thank you for your message.

To meet the requirements for UK NARIC to be able to provide this service you need hold a degree which is comparable to a UK Bachelors, Masters of Phd Level, from overseas and taught solely in the medium of English. Unfortunately, if you do not meet these requirements you do not qualify for this service.

If you would just like a statement comparing the level of your overseas award within the UK Framework then it is advised that you order a Statement of Comparability.

Alternatively, if you are required to prove a level of your English language proficiency then it is recommended you look into the alternative methods, such as an IELTS or SELT Exam. (https://www.ielts.org/)

I hope this information is of assistance to you. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

      Kind regards,

      UK NARIC

  53. Hi,

Is there a limit on time since degree has been awarded?
E.g. if someone has graduated in 1995 will it be a valid document for English competency for UKVI?

    1. Hi Tariq,

We can provide our Visas and Nationality Service for an award from any year providing we have been presented with the full set of documentation relating to said award. We would need to see a Final Certificate, Transcript and Medium of Instruction Letter. As far as we are aware, the Home Office too would accept a degree that was completed in any year.

      Regards,
      UK NARIC

  54. Hi. I did my PhD in Sweden (2007-2011, 240 credits) and it was in English, including my thesis that was written in English as well. However, my bachelor and master were in Portuguese in my native country. I wonder if this would typically be sufficient to get an English proficiency level “equivalent to UK PhD” for the VISA application. I’m willing to send my documents to you for certification but I would like to check first to avoid paying the fee unnecessarily. thanks!

    1. Hi Luis,

      Thanks for the message.

Providing you can provide UK NARIC with a Final Certificate and Medium of Instruction letter relating to the Phd from Sweden and also the transcripts of your preceding awrads then we should be able to provide the Visas and Nationality Service for you. We would only need to see the Transcript of your preceding awards in their original language. This is so we can see the full duration and nature of study leading up to the completion of your highest award. These preceding awards won’t be assessed separately but just act as supporting documentation for your Phd award.

  55. Hello,

I am an ACCA Member, and I am seeking to apply for a Tier 2 (General) visa through a sponsorship with an employer in UK. For the english language requirement of the aforementioned visa category, do I need to have a SoC from UK NARIC? Or do I only necessarily need to appear for an english language assessment?

I’m of the understanding that ACCA is a UK qualification taught fully in English so is it considerable for the english language proficiency?

If an SoC is required, can you please guide me on to the web link that details the process and documents required to be sent?

    Thank you,

    Wasif Ahmed

    1. Hello Wasif,

      Thanks for the comment.

A Statement of Comparability will provide a comparability of your overseas qualifications to the level in which they sit on the UK Framework. You can present this Statement of Comparability to Organisations and Institutions for further Work or Study. Please see the following page for more information on how to apply: https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/Statement%20of%20Comparability.aspx

We are able to provide academic comparability for ACCA Awards for work and study purposes. However, regarding English proficiency the role of UK NARIC is to comment on overseas qualifications only, we do not comment on UK qualifications and these should be presented directly to the Home Office for their consideration.

We recommend that you check with the Home Office UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) if you need a statement from UK. NARIC, as we are a separate organisation from the Home Office we are unable to advise on requirements for the visa application process. We recommend you contact the Home Office directly for more information. Their website is https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration

  56. Hi,
I will be applying for my spouse visa extension and need to prove my English language skills. I have a 2 year B.Com degree from KU in Pakistan I just needed to know if it will qualify for the statement of comparability by UK NARIC.

  57. Naric did not accept application as qualification does not match with their criteria in terms of standard of passing of the institution that awarded the degree. So the application declined. But others with exactly same qualification from same institution during the same period of time got the bachelor degree standard.
    How this can be possible?
Do you think that reference of other’s statement issued by NARIC for the same qualification from same institution can be of any help?

    1. Hi

      Thank you for your comment.

  58. I’ve applied for UK Naric English Language Assessment through VISA and Nationality channel for my Tier 2 VISA.
Can the English language assessment copy (as a pdf) be shared over email once it is available. This is required by my employer to issue me the CoS. So I need to send it ASAP.
Meanwhile when hard copy will arrive I will apply for the Visa.

    2. hi there,
i am in the same boat, just wanted to ask were you able to get a scanned copy of it? if yes, how and when?
      any help will be appreciated.

      1. Hi,

        Thank you for your post.

Completed applications are letters which are sent by your chosen delivery method.

        Kind regards,

  59. I understand Home Office will require the original hard copies of the assessments . But I need a scan copy of English Language Assessment to be shown to my employer to issue me the CoS by starting of next month and I don’t see any chance to get a hard copy by that time since I am applying it from outside UK .

Can Naric send me a soft copy of the assessment over email to meet my need, that’d really be helpful . I’ve already applied for assessment .

    1. HI Avijit,
      Many thanks for your post.
There is a messaging function on your online user portal, if you contact us though this we can look into sending you a scanned fax copy of your documents once the assessment has been completed if your address is outside the UK. Please note that we also offer Fast Track upgrades for a 24 or 48 hour process time if you are in a hurry for your application to be completed.
      Kind regards,

  60. Currently, I am a final year masters student in Spain, I will graduate in July so I don’t have my diploma and final transcripts yet. Can NARIC assess if my program meets the requirements for the English language proficiency without the final transcripts? Of course, I can provide the official details about the program and courses.

    1. Dear Aleksei,

      Thank you for your post.

At UK NARIC we are not able to provide comparability information for incomplete qualifications. We can only provide an assessment once you have completed and been awarded the qualification.

      Kind regards

  61. I applied for Transcripts and Medium of Instruction Certificate through my university online service but they said I need to come in person for the Medium of Certificate, but Transcript which I got has Medium of Instruction is ENGLISH printed at the end of the certificate is that acceptable by NARIC or separate MOI is mandatory

    Thanks in Advance,
    Dhanapal

I have an impending CoS for a Tier 2 visa and I’m supposed to join a university as a staff starting June 1 2018. My bachelor’s certificate will be issued in September 2018, Can I still apply? I do have a TOEFL score in case it can mitigate this issue altogether.

I will be applying for UK citizenship soon and would like to use your services to prove my knowledge of English.

My diploma supplement (PhD at a Belgian university) states clearly that the language of instruction was English. The diploma supplement bears the logo of the university and is on official paper. Do I still need an MoI letter?

    Thank you very much!

  65. For English Language Assessment, as per the standard of degree evaluated by UK NARIC, can UK NARIC evaluate any CEFR level between A1 to C2? Or only CEFR level C1 is evaluated by UK NARIC?

    1. Hi Prasanta,
      Thank you for the post.
The outcomes of UK NARIC’s English Language Assessment would usually be a minimum of a B1, as they are based on Degree level qualifications which have been taught solely in English.
Each qualification is assessed individually and the outcome would usually be either B1, B2 or C1.

  66. Hi

I got my statement of comparability and English language assessment through blue route(work and study). If I want to apply for Tier 2 visa, should I again require to evaluate the same through red route(visa and nationality)?

    Thanks

I stayed in UK from March’2011 till Feb’2017 on Tier 2 ICT and came back to India. Now I am applying for Tier 2 General VISA. I never took UK NARIC certificate earlier while I applied for VISA previously.

Please suggest, if I need than why and what is the process?
If do not have the answer, please help me by letting me know whom I can reach out for more help or information who can clarify me if UK NARIC is required or not?

  69. Greetings,

I will earn my PhD degree in the USA, and as I understand from your responses in this page I will not need an English Language Assessment document. But since my degree will be awarded 2 months after I apply for the visa (Tier 2- General), I was wondering what type of documents and proofs I can provide before having an appointment and for the visa procedure.

    Kind regards,
    SK

    1. Dear SK,
      Thank you for your post.
At UK NARIC we are not able to provide comparability information for incomplete qualifications. For us to be able to provide the Visas and Nationality service, you will need to have successfully completed the qualification and been awarded the title. If you have not yet completed the award, you may wish to look into other methods of proving your English proficiency, such as an IELTS or SELT Exam.
      Kind regards
      UK NARIC

  70. Hi,

I would like to apply the tier 2 (general) visa which requires a English Language Certificate. My bachelor degree was mainly taught in English, and three courses was taught in other language. I asked my university to issue a MOI letter. It states that,

“With regard to medium of instruction, according to our records, the courses that he enrolled were mostly taught in English and/or Chinese.”

I wonder if it meet the English language requirement. Thanks.

    Best regards,
    AL

    1. Hi AL,
      Thank you for the message.

  71. Hi 👋,

I applied for English language assessment certificate for my Tier 2 visa process. I received my scanned copy of assessment certificate and the ard copy is on the way on the post. However, in the certificate, it says year of award is 2015. In reality, was awarded the degree in 2014. It is written in every certificate I submitted. Is it any mistake by UK NARIC? If it is how can I apply for the correction?

    1. Hi
      Thank you for your comment.

  72. hi
I have applied for Visas and Nationality Service. how many documents do I expect to receive from your side after completion of my assessment?. Also, regarding the Royal mail service, do you provide them with the candidate telephone number to facilitate the delivery of the documents?

    1. Hi

      Thank you for your comment.

The Visas and Nationality Service provides both an Academic Qualification Level Statement (AQUALS) and/or English Language Proficiency (ELPS) – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route.

Royal Mail is the local postal service in the UK, they are not a courier service and so they would not require a telephone number to facilitate delivery of documents. They do however offer trackable delivery methods and there are different postage options available to choose from on our website.

  73. HI,

i am just in the process of registration via the RED route to get my degree compared to prove my English efficiency as i will be applying for UK SPOUSE VISA as my partner(HUSBAND) is a British citizen and i an INDIAN . while doing the registration it asks for immigration tier where i selected -Family,Settlement and Nationality option then it asks for immigration route here there are 2 options where i am confused which one to select FAMILY OR SETTLEMENT …Please help x

    1. Hi
      Thank you for your post.
You will need to know what immigration visa or route which you are applying for to complete this section. For example, if you are applying for Naturalisation / Settlement, then you will need to select the Settlement route options, if you are coming to join your partner/family (For example a spouse visa), then this would be the Family option.

  74. Hi

I have got my statement of comparability as Bachelor (Honours) degree but for English Language Assessment I got the reply from NARIC that the qualification is professional in nature.
I have submitted my medium of instruction letter as required.

My question is, if the qualification is academically evaluated and awarded as Bachelor (Honours) degree then why a such kind of explanation is given for English Language Assessment for the same qualification.

    Thanks and Regards

    1. Hi
      Thank you for your comment.
Please note that only certain qualifications will be eligible for the English Language Assessment as it can only be done on academic qualifications. Professional awards are not eligible for this service.
Unfortunately we are unable to comment on qualifications or institutions via our social media accounts. 76. I got my PhD from France, and that is a PhD-based research, i.e., no courses, so I don’t have the Academic Transcripts. Do I only need to send the PhD certificate and the MoI letter?

    1. Hi,

      Thank you for your comment.

We are aware that most PhDs do not have transcripts. Please submit the documents that you do have for consideration so we can check them and advise you if anything further will be required to process your application.

To assist in verifying the level of a PhD, we may ask for the final certificates and transcripts for your previous awards, such as Bachelors and Masters. Therefore it may help if you also upload these documents with your application.

      I hope this helps.

  80. Hello,

I have a query. Pl help.
I am a Doctorate in English Literature & I wish to apply for the Statement of Comparability. But my university is refusing to give transcripts. They say transcripts are for educational purposes & are posted to the foreign university directly- and not handed over to individuals !

Upon my explanation of the purpose, they have suggested me to upload the detailed summary of marks (called the Detailed Marks Sheet) in place of the transcripts.
What do I do now to get the statement of comparability ?

    1. Hi
      Thank you for your message.
The documentation required in order to assess your qualifications is a photocopy of your final certificate and transcripts of results or Mark Sheets for each of the qualifications submitted.
In order to consider the documents you have you will firstly need to finish setting up your application and upload them so we can see if there is enough information on there to provide an assessment of your qualification.
Please see the following page for more information on how to apply: https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/Statement%20of%20Comparability.aspx

    1. Hi Bisaalu Isaac,
      Thank you for your message.
A Statement of Comparability will provide a comparability of your overseas qualifications to the level in which they sit on the UK Framework.
The documentation required in order to assess your qualifications is a photocopy of your final certificate and transcripts of results for each of the qualifications submitted.

  82. Hi UK NARIC,

I am a Indian citizen, currently working in Germany and hold a EU Blue card. I got a job offer from UK, so in order to apply for a Tier 2 (General) visa I need certificate from UK NARIC.

So can you please suggest me which service do I need to take. I thought to apply for Statement of comparability and English assessment via Fast track service as I need the certificates soon due to my joining date.

I know that Visa and Nationality also offer the same service. So what is the difference between both..?

Can I apply for Visa and Nationality and Fast track service together or do I need to apply separately for Statement of comparability and English assessment with fast track ?

    Thanks in advance!

    Regards,
    Sanjay Mallur

    1. Hi Sanjay Mallur,

      Thank you for the message.

The Visas and Nationality Service is designed specifically for immigration purposes and provides both an Academic Qualification Level Statement (AQUALS) and/or English Language Proficiency (ELPS) – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route.

      Regards,
      UK NARIC

  83. Dear UKNARIC,

I am applying for the “English Language Assessment “. I want to receive the scanned version of the Assessment by email (together with the hard version to my home address). However, when applying, there is only the option for delivering to home address, i.e., no email delivery option. Do you offer the service to send the Assessment by email? If yes, how I can apply for that service?
    Thank you.

    1. Hi Sanjeev,

      Thank you for your post.

You can have as many qualifications as you like assessed. If you only want your Masters to be assessed then you only need to provide your Masters documents.

In some cases we will request documents for previous awards to verify the level of a qualification. You will be notified if we need any further documents in order to process your application.

in another way, if i got NARIC statement comparability, in which countries can i use it to get qualification exemption like UK ?

    1. Dear Amr Mohammed Ali,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

UK NARIC is the National Agency for the UK responsible for providing information and advice about vocational, academic and professional skills and qualifications from all over the world. We provide information about the equivalency of qualifications and skills from overseas to the UK’s national qualifications frameworks.

In other words, the UK NARIC Statement of Comparability will only say what level your qualification compares to in the UK qualification framework.

I hope this clarifies the situation.

    1. Hi Gagandeep Singh,
      Thank you for your comment.
Unless your name has formally changed. then we do not require any proof of the name change.
We will input your name on the documents that we issue exactly as you input it into the application.
We are aware there can often be minor spelling differences in names over documents. If the difference is large enough to query if it is the same person, then we may contact you for clarification.
Please ensure to type your name in the application how you would like it to appear on the completed NARIC statement.

  90. Hello,
I have a graduate nursing degree from India and MSc Nursing degree from Scotland. Will the letter from UK -NARIC help for NMC registration?

    1. Hello,

      Thank you for your post.

The UK NARIC Statement of Comparability is in a letter format. It is an officially recognised document that confirms the recognition of an overseas qualification and its comparable level in the UK, irrespective of it being an academic, vocational or professional award. It is not a compulsory document, but it can be specifically requested by an organisation.

The Statement of Comparability is a document that can be used in support of your international qualifications. It guides universities, colleges, employers and professional bodies on how your qualifications (including professional qualifications) relate to UK qualifications and certificates. In general, the document can be of great help when applying for work or study in the UK.

Please see the following link for an example of a Statement of Comparability: https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/documents/SoC.pdf

UK NARIC cannot comment on Professional Rights within the UK or whether our services will meet the entry requirements for further study. It is down to the discretion of the Organisations / Institutions that you are applying for. You can present our Statements within application processes.

It is advised to contact the professional body in charge of your chosen profession within the UK for further information on working within that profession within the UK.

I hope this information is of assistance to you. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

      Kind regards,

      UK NARIC

I have also a certificate (MoI) from my Masters’ institution showing that courses were taught and are being taught in English. Can I submit this MoI with my PhD award certificate (from other institution) to NARIC to claim my English proficiency?

    Thanks

    Regards
    chodimella

    1. Hi Chodimella,
      Thank you for your comment.
To meet the requirements for UK NARIC to be able to provide an English Language Assessment you must hold a degree of Bachelors, Masters or Phd level from an overseas institution that was solely taught in the medium of English.
Please visit our website at https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/Default.aspx for more information.
We will require the following documents for each of the qualifications you would like to be included:
      • Final Certificate
      • Full Academic Transcripts / Mark Sheets for each year of study
      • A Medium of Instruction Letter from the Awarding Institution confirming it was taught solely in English
      Regards,

  98. Hello
I need to prove that my international qualification(s) meet the academic and/or English language requirements will instead be required to obtain official statements from UK NARIC. I did my education in Anna University, India. I have the below documents
    – Degree
    – Consolidated Mark Sheets(with Medium of Instruction as English in the bottom of the certificate)

The consolidated mark sheets provides marks with a percentage. It does not give the score in CGPA. Are these documents sufficient for issuing the documents for UKVI Tier 2 general VISA? Also, should I get explicit letter from the university stating that the degree was taught in English or is the Consolidated Marksheet enough?

    Regards
    Viswa

    1. Hi Viswa,
      Thank you for the message.
The Visas and Nationality Service costs £125 + VAT (£150) and is a 10 Working Day turnaround. These statements confirm your Academic Qualification Level (AQUALS) and/or English Language Proficiency (ELPS) – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route.
To meet the requirements for UK NARIC to be able to provide an English Language Assessment you must hold a degree of Bachelors, Masters or Phd level from an overseas institution that was solely taught in the medium of English.
Please visit our website and Take the Red Route for Visas and Nationality to apply for this service.
We will require the following documents for each of the qualifications you would like to be included:

  99. While applying for the tier 2 visa my B.Tech degree and university were in the UK Visa data base hence I did not give the English Test. Do I have to give the test for the ILR or it will be the same process as before in case of Tier 2 Visa .

    1. Hi Uma
      Thank you for the message.
We recommend that you check with the Home Office UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) if you need a statement from UK NARIC or an English language test.
As we are a separate organisation from the Home Office we are unable to advise on requirements for the visa application process. We recommend you contact the Home Office directly for more information.

  100. Hello! I am applying for Tier 2 General Visa. I have two degrees viz. Bachelors of Pharmacy (graduation) and Master in Pharmacy (post graduate) completed and awareded in India. Is it acceptable to share transcripts and MOI for Master’s degree only to prove comparability with UK degree? Also, my marksheets and degree are already in English, do I still need MOI? What are your fast track processing timelines and fees?

    1. Hi Saniya
      Thanks for your message.
We recommend you submit all the documents you have for both of your qualifications, as we may ask to see evidence of a previous award when assessing a Masters quailifcation.
In terms of an MOI, this is a letter that shows you were taught in English. So even if your documents are in English, we would still need the MOI letter from your institution if you need to prove your English langugage skills for your visa requirements. If you aren’t sure about your visa requirents, please contact the Home Office UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI): https://www.gov.uk/browse/visas-immigration

  101. Hi,

I’m planning to apply for “English Language Assessment”. For the Medium of Instructions letter, my university from India is only giving a generic MOI letter, which does not state my name or roll number in it. I observed in the samples provided in your website, that they have student’s name and roll number mentioned in them. Can you please clarify, whether the MOI letter from university mandatorily requires the student’s name and roll number to be mentioned?

    Thanks,
    AJ

    1. Hi AJ,
      Thank you for your message.
To provide an English language Assessment or Visa and Nationality service one of the required documents is a medium of instruction letter from the central records office / registry confirming that your qualification was taught solely in English.
Please note that we would usually expect the Medium of Instruction letter to refer to you by name.
Please visit our website and Take the Red Route for Visas and Nationality to apply for this service. https://www.naric.org.uk/visas%20and%20nationality/Default.aspx ied.

  102. Hi,
I’m planning to apply for the English language assessment service. The Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter I have from my university is a generic one without my name or university roll number in it, as it was published to be used for all the students. Would it still suffice if I submit this MOI as part of my documentary evidence for English Language Assessment service?

    Thanks,
    Adam

  103. Hi UK NARIC,

I have bachelor degree and master’s degree. For English Language Assessment – will only master’s degree documents – MOI of Master’s degree, Marksheets. so, My question is that Do I need to get MOI of bachelor degree also?

    1. Hi Vaishali,
      Thank you for the comment
To meet the requirements for UK NARIC to be able to provide an English Language Assessment we require the following documents for each of the qualifications you would like to be included:
      • Final Certificate
      • Full Academic Transcripts / Mark Sheets for each year of study

Just wanted to check with you if you have used Masters degree or the bachelors one for MOI?

      Thanks,
      Shweta

  104. Hi,
I have a bachelor Degree certificate which is having course duration of 4years and have marksheets for each year separately.
Do i need to get transcript i.e consolidated marksheet from university or individual marksheet is enough for the process.
Note I have medium of instruction letter also.

  105. Hi,
I have query regarding name change after my education.

I have changed my name (corrected) whilst I am near to completing my masters degree, but my masters degree educational certificate was issued with old name. Now my passport and UK visa are with new name.

Should I mention my old name or new name while applying for English language certificate ?

Should I also upload my name change certificate (Gaggette from state governament) as part of application ?

    Thank you,
    Venkat.

    1. Hi Venkat
      Thank you for your comment.
If your surname has changed through marriage then it is not necessary to submit a copy of your marriage certificate to demonstrate the change of name.
If your name has changed for any other reason, then yes, please submit a copy of your name change certificate.
Please make your application to UK NARIC using your current/correct name, and you can submit your documentation in your previous name.
      Kind Regards,

  106. Hi, I am a registered nurse from India. For the visa purpose of my job in UK, I am applying for visa and nationality. I have done 3 years diploma in nursing and later I did 2 years bachelor’s degree. So my doubt is, do I need to submit both my qualifications with medium of instruction letter from both college’s, or since bachelor’s is a higher degree, submitting my 2 year bachelor’s degree with the relevant certificates be enough or not. Kindly clarify

    1. Hi San
      Thank you for your comment.

  107. Hi I want to apply for English language assessment service. I have completed my Master degree (MCA – Master in computer administrations) and Bachelor degree (B.Sc. in Computer science).

So is it ok if i upload MOI for my masters degree? or do i have to upload MOI for my bachelors degree?

    1. Hi Shweta,
      Thanks for your comment.
If you would like your Master degree assessed for English language then you can just submit your Masters degree. If you wanted your Bachelors to be considered as well then this can be uploaded too for no extra cost.
The documents you will need to submit in order to assess your qualifications is a photocopy of your final certificate and transcripts of results for each of the qualifications, as well as an MOI letter from the institution for each qualification.
For more information about what documents to send, please check out our YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DOHgHnWZ08&t

  108. Good day,
I want to know if I can use the English Language Assessment service to apply for PLAB. I have a BSc in Microbiology as a first degree and was taught in English medium.

    1. Hi Safiyyah,
      Thanks for your comment.
I recommend you contact the General Medical Council to check what they require from you.
To our knowledge, before you can take the PLAB test, you’ll need to prove your medical qualification and knowledge of English are acceptable. So you may wish to have both a Statement of Comparability as well as an English Language Assessment.
But I would strongly recommend you contact the GMC to see if this is appropriate for your needs.
      I hope this was helpful,

  109. Hi,

I contacted my university for “Medium of instruction” certificate. They provided a certificate mentioning that medium of instruction is English for all the courses offered in the institution from its inception.

The certificate is present here: http://www.kct.ac.in/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Certificate-of-Medium-of-Instruction_scaned-copy.pdf

Could you please confirm whether this certificate along with Degree certificate with university name, transcripts and transfer certificate (medium of instruction is also mentioned here) is sufficient for verification.

    Thank you,
    Renganathan V

    1. Hi Renganathan,
      Thanks for your comment.
Unfortunately we are unable to comment on documents via our social media accounts. I recommend you create an account with us and upload this letter, along with any supporting evidence from the institution that explains this is the only document they can provide you with (For example an email chain), to see if we can assess this.
In most cases we ask that the Medium of Instruction letter reference the degree holder by name and the title of the award.
I hope this helps, kind Regards,

  110. Hi
Is there a list of Indian Universities recognized by NARIC for English medium of instruction.

    1. Hi Mohd,
      Thanks for your comment.
Unfortunately, we do not have a list of recognised English medium universities, as sometimes the Medium of Instruction can differ between degrees or the year of award within the institution. When we ask for proof of English Medium of Instruction we require a letter from the institution to confirm it. If you wish to see an example of this letter you can view one here: https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/Individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/documents/TechUniCertification_in.pdf

  111. i have completed BBM in madras university via correspondence .So we can only mentioned university name on MOI and we cannot mentioned institution name is that ok?

    1. Hi Aneesh,
      Thanks for your comment.
Ideally the Medium of Instruction letter would come from the awarding institution, for example the University, or the exam board. However we understand it is often easier to obtain this letter from the college you studied at. We can only accept Medium of Instruction letters from the college where the affiliation to the University is confirmed on documentation from the University or exam board, e.g. your certificate, transcripts or a separate letter from them.
If you wish to see an example of this letter you can view one here: https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/Individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/documents/TechUniCertification_in.pdf

  112. Hi I have a Post Graduate Certificate of Information Technology from Demontfort university of leicester. Now i am applying for settlement visa i just want to know if it is equivalent to B1. Previously I granted entry clearance with that certificate for Post study work and i also used it in the entry clearance of spouse visa.

  113. How long in advance do you need to do this before applying for your VISA? I am trying to organise the steps of my immigration to London, UK:
    1. convert degree
    2. Find job
    3. Proof of English instruction (How many months before applying for the visa? Do I need to do this before applying for jobs? How much does the process cost and how long does it take to complete from application to result received? If my course is accepted as English then am I exempt from doing the Academic IELTS? or will I still need to do the English test? )
    4. Book flights
    5. Apply for VISA (3 months prior to departure)

    Thanks,

    Shereen Louw

    1. Hi Shereen,
      Thanks for your comment.
It may be of interest to you to apply for our Visas and Nationality Service. It is specifically for people applying for Visas and has a 10 Working Day turnaround from the moment we receive all of the correct documents and payment (£125). However, we would recommend you start this process as early as you can, as sometimes overseas postage can take some time.

We do also recommend that you check with the Home Office UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) about your specific requirements before applying for our services as we are a separate organisation from the Home Office, so we can’t advise you on your Visa route or the Visa application process.

The Visas and Nationality Service confirms your Academic Qualification Level (comparing your degree to the UK) and English Language Proficiency – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route. Given we can provide you this service, it means you would not need to do an IELTS test.

In terms of applying for jobs, each company would have their own entry requirements, but our documents can be used for this purpose to show academic level and English ability.

To meet the requirements for UK NARIC to be able to provide the service you must hold a degree of Bachelors, Masters or Phd level from an overseas institution that was solely taught in the medium of English.
More information about how to apply can be found on our website: https://www.naric.org.uk/visas%20and%20nationality/Default.aspx
Or you may wish you watch our YouTube video on what documents to send us: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DOHgHnWZ08

I hope this answers your questions, if you need any other assistance you can call us on:+44 3003 038777 or there is an online messaging portal once you have made an application with us.

  114. Hello! I have a Bachelor of Education in TEFL awarded by a Chilean institution. I started my undergraduate degree at a state university in Osorno (southern Chile), but after a period of economic hardship and family issues, I had to pospone my studies for a couple of years. Then, I moved to Santiago, found a job, and was able to resume my studies after transferring into another university where all my previous courses were recognised and validated. I finally graduated with First-class Honours. So my question is: Do I need to get an MOI letter from both universities I studied at or just from the latter one where I got my degree? I have my final certificate, transcripts, and official translations.

    1. Hi Tony,
      Thank you for you comment.
In answer to your question, yes, you would need to provide an MOI from both Universities. The reason for this is that we need proof that all the courses that count towards your degree were taught in English. Please keep in mind we would also need to see transcripts from the first University you studied at, to cover the time you spent there, as well as confirmation from the second University to show that your credits were transferred across – this can be stated in the transcripts from the second University, it doesn’t have to be a separate letter.
If you need anymore information about the documents we require please see our website: https://www.naric.org.uk/visas%20and%20nationality/Default.aspx
      I hope this helps,
      UK NARIC

      1. Thank you for your prompt reply.
I shall contact the Heads of the English Departments from both universities to provide the MOI letters I need to submit for it is them who are in charge of the recognition and validation of core courses as well as issuing certificates in English.

I have a question regarding the ‘duration of award’. Bachelor’s degrees in Chile take 5-6 years to be completed. I studied for 5 years at my first University and 2 years at the second one, so shall I select 5, 2 or 7 years when I add the qualification information?

        Kind regards,

        Tony

      2. Hi Tony,
Yes, that is ok, please make sure that the MOI letters show they come from the University, not just the individual departments. For example, make sure they use University headed paper or it is signed by a University official, to avoid any confusion.
In terms of the duration of award, as all of the time was towards one degree, 7 years would be appropriate.
        Thank you, UK NARIC

  115. Hi
I have a Ph.D. degree from India, and I am planning to join a post-doctorate position in the UK. I have a few questions regarding this:
    1. Do I need to scan and send my Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. transcripts and degree certificate or just the Ph.D. degree certificate is enough?
    2. I have three transcripts/ mark sheets (year wise) for my Bachelors and four transcripts (semester wise) for my Masters. Do I have to upload all of them or the final year/semester transcript is enough? Do I have to arrange a consolidated transcript for both the courses?
    3. I have already arranged a Medium of Instruction (MOI) certificate for my Ph.D. course. Do I need the MOI certificate for my Bachelors and Masters also?
    4. Do I need to verify my spouse’s documents also, as she is coming with me as a dependent?

    1. Hi Lokesh
      Thanks for your comment.
Most of the time we would ask to see a prerequisite to a Ph.D. So sending us evidence your previous qualifications would be beneficial. The documents we would need to see for each qualification are: a copy of your final certificate, a full academic transcript for every year/semester of study and a Medium of Instruction letter. A consolidated transcript is not necessary if we have all the other years/semesters.

If you would just like your Ph.D assessed then an MOI for Bachelors or Masters is not needed. However, if you can get an MOI for either one of them, then it may be in your interest to have them assessed, as this would be at not extra cost to you.

In terms of your spouse’s documents, unfortunately this is something we cannot advise you on. We recommend that you check with the Home Office UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI), as we are a separate organisation from the Home Office we are unable to advise on requirements for the visa application process.

I hope this helps, UK NARIC

  116. Hi , I’m going to apply for ILR in three months and I have completed my degree in the English language so I have registered into Naric to get the English Certificate , when I click to start the application it will ask what type of service you do you need so in that do I need to select both services like Visa and Nationality Service, English Language Assessment to get the English Language Certificate or I can select Visa and Nationality Service only. Could you please provide the what service I need to select to get my English certificate. Thanks.

    1. Hi Suganya
      Thank you for your comment.
Our Visas and Nationality Service is offered specifically for people applying to the Home Office. This service confirms your Academic Qualification Level and English Language Proficiency – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route. So if you chose the Visas and Nationality service, you would not need an English Language Assessment as well.
However, we do recommend that you check with the Home Office UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) to see what their requirements are, as we are a separate organisation so we are unable to advise on requirements for the visa application process.
      I hope this helps,

  117. Hi,

Can I use transcript and medium of instruction letter(MOI) obtained from college?
Marksheets are granted by University (university of delhi) and has university name on them but attested by college.
Also, MOI is printed on letter head of college but it does mention university name and medium of instructions to be english.
Can I use this transcript for “visa and nationality service”?

    1. Hi Sonu
      Thanks for your comment.
Ideally these documents would be from the central records office/registry of the awarding University; however we understand it is often easier to obtain them from the college. We can accept them from the college, but only if the affiliation is confirmed on documentation by the University.
This can be in the form of a specific letter from the University stating the affiliation, or on documents such as the transcripts which come from the University but mention the college.
      I hope this helps,

  118. Hi there,

I am applying for the UK tier2 visa. And I need my degree to be assessed by the UK NARIC. My course was completely taught in English and I have received an MOI from my university, signed by the Dean and written on a University letterhead, stating that all the courses in the university are taught in English. However, the letter is generic and doesn’t specify my name. Would this letter work as an MOI? My degree certificate and my transcripts are in English.

    Ravi Shah.

    1. Hi Ravi Shah
      Thanks for your comment.
Ideally the MOI would state your name and give specific reference to the degree you studied so if you can get this from the university then I would recommend you do so. However, if the university have refused to send a specific letter, then I would recommend you upload the letter you have to your online application, along with any evidence of the university stating this is the ony letter they can provide (this can be in the form of an email).
      I hope this helps,
      UK NARIC

      1. Thank you so much for your help. I called up the university, and they are reluctant to provide this confirmation email as the certificate statement stands for itself. I do however have a Bachelor’s degree as well, which is not the highest degree that I have obtained and I do have the MOI letter from them. Would you recommend using that instead? Thank you so much for your help.

      2. Hi Ravi, yes if you have the other required documents for your Bachelors degree then this can be uploaded and assessed. If you have written evidence that the university will not provide a more specific MOI for your other degree I would recommend uploading that too. All the documents you have will be useful to us. Thank you, UK NARIC

  119. Hi,

I am a PhD from Italy (Politecnico di Torino) my thesis and research was conducted in English. Although, my MOI states that the “PhD coursework was done in English and Italian, and my thesis was written in English.” We had some compulsory courses according to the Italian law in order to complete the PhD degree (course credits). That’s why 1 subject was done in the Italian language and 1 Italian language exam apart from the other courses in English. Do you think this will suffice as an MOI?

    Please let me know.

    1. Hi Richa
      Thanks for your comment.
Unfortunately without seeing your documents we are unable to comment on whether they meet our requirements via our social media accounts. If you would like to discuss this further you can call us on +44 3003 038777, Monday to Friday (between 9:00am and 5:00pm), to speak to an Information Adviser and they will be happy to discuss this with you further.
Or if you have already made an application with us, you can upload all the documents you have and send us a message on the online portal so our specialists can review them and let you know if we can assess your qualifications based on the documents provided.
      I hope this helps,

  120. Dear UK NARIC,

This is regarding my ILR. I have got Medium of Instruction letter from my college on their official letterhead, but still I was told by Smithstone Walters (who have applied on my behalf) that you arw looking for MOI from the university to which my college was affiliated. I believe the MOI from my college that has my name, Year of completion, Roll nbr, Course etc is good enough & a separate MOI from the university is not needed. Please confirm.
Since I’m in the UK currently, it would not be possible for me to travel to my home country now to get the MOI from the university. Moreover, when we have the MOI from the college, I believe thats good enough. Pls advise.

    Thanks a lot,
    Thiagarajan Krishnan

    1. Hi Thiagarajan Krishnan
      Thanks for your comment.
The reason we usually ask for the MOI to come from the university is because we cannot prove the affiliation between the college and university from this document alone. If you have another document from the university that shows the college name or mentions the affiliation, such as the certificate or transcripts, then the MOI from the college will be fine.
      I hope this is helpful,
      UK NARIC

  121. Hi,
Please, Can you kindly tell me if I can use the CEFR of NARIC instead of IELTS certificate to apply for “General student visa (Tier 4)”?
Also, Can I use it for the English requirement of PhD studies in UK universities?

I look forward to hearing from you.
    Best Regards,
    Mohamed Ghareb

    1. Hi Mohamed
      Thanks for your comment.
Yes, you can use UK NARIC instead of IELTS to apply for your Visa, and this can be used in an application to a UK university.
You may wish to apply for the UK NARIC Visas and Nationailty serivce, as this will suffice your English language requirements and qualification comparison as appropriate for the Home Office: https://www.naric.org.uk/visas%20and%20nationality/default.aspx
One of the requirements for this service is that you hold a qualification of at least bachelor degree level from overseas. The documents we will request are: a copy of your final certificate, a copy of your full academic transcripts/marksheets, and a Medium of Instrution letter from your institution.
I hope this answers your query,

  122. I am about to submit a request for English Language Assessment, in fast track – If any of the documents I submit along with my application do not satisfy the requirements, do I get a chance to resubmit them? Or will I loose my money and I should start a new application?

    1. Hi John
      Thanks for your comment
You can resubmit documents at any stage of the application process. You will not be charged any money and you dont need to start a new application. But please bear in mind the 24 hour fast track will restart once you submit more documents. So it will be in your best interest to submit as much infomation as you can at once so we can process you application as quick as possible for you.
      I hope this helps,

  123. Hello, I have completed my PhD from TU Berlin, Germany. In this case, it will be difficult to obtain an MOI. Will an MOI from the institute where I did my masters and bachelors will suffice? Please let me know.

    1. Hi Manish
      Thanks for your comment.
If you wish to have your Bachelors or Masters assessed then yes an MOI from these qualifications will be fine. However, if you just want your PhD assessed for English langugage then we will need to see an MOI for that specific qualification. If the institution would rather email us confirmation of this directly then please tell them to email documents@naric.org.uk with your full name and enquiry number so we can link it to your application.
      I hope this helps,

  124. Hi NARIC team,

I am planning to apply for a Tier 2 work visa. I already have a master’s degree awarded by a UK university but it was studied overseas (in Sri Lanka) at an offshore study center. I was not physically present in the UK for my studies. I’m a bit confused whether this degree needs to be assessed for English proficiency or whether it can be used as evidence for the visa. Could you please clarify this? Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Hassen
      Thanks for your comment
As long as the award was issued by the UK University then you should be able to apply directly with that qualifiction, as we cannot assess UK awarded Degrees. If it was issued by another country’s authority then this is something we could look at for English language ability.
      I hope this helps,

  125. Hi, I have Bachelors, Masters and PhD degree from three separate Indian Universities. I have the Final Certificate and Transcripts for all the degrees. I also have the MOI letter for my PhD degree, which means, my PhD documents are complete. However, I do not have the MOI letter for my Bachelors and Masters degree. Please let me know (1) whether it is mandatory to submit my Bachelors and Masters degree to UK NARIC for Visa & Nationality services (2) if yes, can I submit my Bachelors and Masters documents without MOI letter? I am just asking this because, though both my Bachelors and Masters courses were completely taught in English and even the certificates are in English, it is a difficult and time consuming task to obtain the MOI certificate from these Universities. Looking forward to your favourable reply. Thanks a lot.

    1. Hi Tarun
      Thanks for your comment
You can just submit your PhD alone. However, you may wish to upload the certificates and transcripts for your other degrees as well because sometimes when we assess PhD qualifications we request to see proof of the degrees that were completed beforehand. If you do upload them, please send us a message on the online portal on your account, so we can assess the PhD appropriately.

  126. Hi. I am from Chile, in 2001 I obtained a grade of a “technical engineer of Informatic” . A career of 4 years of study, I made a little research and realized that the contents are similar to a “Bachelor on computer science”. (no honors). Can I use the service of Naric for obtaining a State of comparability?

  127. Hi,
I am from India. Currently doing my postdoctoral research at Germany. I have finished my PHD degree from India in 2018. Now I got another postdoc offer from UK (starting date january, 2020). I am going to apply for a Tier2 Visa (through CoS from university). In the uk visa page, it is written about the knowledge of english that “having an academic qualification that was taught in English and is recognised by UK NARIC as being equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD”. I have all the certificates and triscripts written in english. DO I need to submit the “medium of instruction” along with these transcripts? Kindly let me know. Eagerly waiting for your reply

    1. Hi Moni
      Thanks for your comment.
UK NARIC offers a Visas and Nationality service which you can use to apply for a UK Visa from the Home Office. The documents you need for this service are: a copy of the final certificate, a copy of your academic transcripts, and a Medium of Instruction letter which confirms that the qualification was taught and assessed completely in English. Each of these documents is essential for the service and can be requested from your institution, or affiliate college, if you do not have them.
      I hope this helps

Is it (CONVERSION COURSE)still applicable for Indian PharmD graduates. how to find whether Indian PharmD course is have necessary eligibility or not

    waiting for a quick response

    1. Hi, thanks for your comment.
Unfortunately, unless you would like a specific qualification assessed for its level in the UK, we are unable to help. You will have to contact the institution that overs the course to see if they will accept your qualification as eligible.
      Thanks

  129. Hellow UK NARIC,

I have completed My BE in the year 2012. Now recently my college name is changed.
When I applied MOI latter my university given me MOI letter with new college name, instead old name.

Is it okay to have the new name in MOI letter.?

    1. Hi Mahantappa
      Thanks for your comment.
As long as the MOI has come from the same University as the other documents, then the name of the college changing is fine.
Once you have set up an account with us, there is an online messaging portal on your account. You could send us a message to say the college has recently changed name just so we aware when we look over your documents.
      I hope this helps,
      UK NARIC

      1. Thanks for the replay. I have sent the message to saying the college has recently changed name.

  130. Good day,

I’m applying for UK naturalisation. I need AQUALS from you to confirm my degree.
I got my MD degree from University in St Kitts and Nevis (2004) , all of which is in English. Do I still need to provide MOI letter?

    Kind Regards

    1. Hi Asra
      Thanks for your comment.
As St Kitts and Nevis is on the ‘Exceptions’ list on the Home Office website (https://www.gov.uk/tier-4-general-visa/knowledge-of-english) You do not need to prove your level of English when applying for UK naturalisation. Therefore, you don’t need to provide us with an MOI letter. All you would need from us is a Statement of Comparability to prove your AQUALS, as you have stated.
      I hope this helps,
      UK NARIC

  131. Hi UKNARIC,

I’m a bit confused. I have a copy of my UKNARIC certificate for my degree that is equivalent to UK Bachelor’s Degree which I used 5 years ago to apply for my Tier 2 visa (General) and to satisfy the English language requirement. I was granted a visa and next week I am due to apply for ILR.

My question now is, when you say “having met the requirement in a previous grant of leave”, you mean I can submit the same UKNARIC certificate to satisfy my English knowledge requirement WITHOUT the need to get a separate UKNARIC certificate confirming the level of English to which the degree was taught or researched?

    1. Hi, thank you for your comment.
You will have to prove your English ability when applying to the Home Office. This can be done either with a statement from us or an English test such as IELTS.
As the statement you already have from us doesn’t contain information about English ability, I would recommend getting an English Language Assessment (https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/English%20Language%20Assessment.aspx) to fulfill this requirement. You would then present both the statement you already have plus the new one to the Home Office when applying.
I would also recommend contacting the Home Office or an Immigration advisor about what the requirements are, as they will be able to give you more in-depth, specific advice. I hope this helps, UK NARIC

  132. Hi UK NARIC,
I completed my degree in 1992. I have final provisional certificate and 3 years Mark sheets, MOL certificate. But I dont have degree certificate. Are these enough to apply UK NARIC Certificate.
    Eagerly waiting for your reply
    Rita Williams

    1. Hi Rita
      Thanks for your comment.
Yes you can still apply to UK NARIC without a degree certificate and we may still be able to assess your qualification.
When you apply, just make sure you let us know you do not have the degree certificate.
      I hope this helps,
      UK NARIC

  133. Hi UK NARIC,

I am a bit confused here. In my Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree final transcript, back side of each page mentions the line “The medium of Instruction is English”. The final transcript is issued on the letterhead of the educational Institute, stating my name, ID, degree, date of issue, and is signed by the registrar of the educational Institute.

Do I still need to produce a separate Medium of Instruction letter from the institute, which of course needs to be requested since as per Institution the issued transcript has all the information requested via Medium of Instruction letter ?

    Regards,
    Bhaskar Kakati

    1. Hi Bhaskar,

      Thank you for your comment.

To assist with providing a comment on English Language Proficiency, require a letter from the awarding institution to confirm that the degree was taught solely in English.

Although this may be stated on your documents already we would need to see a separate statement issued from the awarding university to confirm that the course has been taught and assessed in English. We have an example published on our website for your reference:

      https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/Individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/documents/TechUniCertification_in.pdf

  134. Hi UK NARIC,

I have completed my Masters in 2004 and Bachelor degree in 2002 from 2 different universities in India. The department in which i have studied Masters is completely closed in 2008 .So i could not able to get MoI letter from that College. But i have Provisional and Marks certificates from that University. Can i apply for UK NARIC certificate based on Bachelors degree instead of Master’s degree, since bachelors is also done in English Medium and could able to produce all the certificates from that university. Will that be accepted though my highest degree is MASTERS ,but applying based on BACHELORs degree. Looking forward for your reply.

    Thanks
    Kumar

    1. Hi Kumar,
      Thank you for your comment.
When choosing which qualification to present to UK NARIC as part of the Visa and Nationality service this is up to you.
All we advise is that the award is of a University degree level of education that is equivalent to a UK Bachelor, Master or PhD degree and taught solely in English. If you are unable to provide the necessary evidence for the Master degree then we can look into whether the Bachelor degree would be suitable for the service.
For further information about the Visa and Nationality service and how to apply, please see the following link: https://www.naric.org.uk/visas%20and%20nationality/Default.aspx
      I hope this helps.

  135. Hello Team,

    Hope you are Doing Well.

I have Completed My Graduation in Dr.Br Amberkar open University (3Years course) in English Medium.i do have MOI certificate also. Please share the NARIC Approved Universities from INDIA. and am i eligible to apply for Visa with Above University?.

    Thanks
    Ravi

    1. Dear Ravinder,
      Thank you for your comment.
The Visas and Nationality service reviews the award that you have achieved and the level of English language proficiency required to complete the course. We would require you to provide all three documents; final certificate, full transcript/ mark sheets for each year or semester; and the medium of instruction letter, to begin looking into this and whether the presented qualification is suitable.
We are unable to comment on English proficiency without receiving an application online and all necessary documentation.
Please see the following page for information about how to apply: https://www.naric.org.uk/visas%20and%20nationality/how%20to%20apply.aspx
      I hope that this helps.

  136. Hi there,

I have obtained the Medium of Education letter from my college, on the official letterhead, signed by the principal. I am unable to obtain the letter from the University at the moment due to COVID related closures. Let me know if this will be suitable.

    1. Hi Kirtika,
      Thank you for your comment.
We advise that the Medium of Instruction letter can come from either the University or the affiliated college.
Please upload the document you have so that we can look into whether this is suitable.
      I hope this helps.

  137. Hello,

I’ve passed out in 2005, from University of Mumbai and have the degree certificate and the eight semester marksheets. These are all in English.
Do I need to submit the MOI letter too?
If yes, does this need to be from the University? OR will a letter from the college (affiliated to the university) suffice?

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Garniytha,
      Thank you for your comment.
If you are applying for our Visas and Nationality service we would require a Medium of Instruction letter with all applications where the award is not from an English exempt country: https://www.gov.uk/english-language/exemptions
This letter can be provided by the University or the Affiliated College. This should be issued by the Registrar, Dean or Head of Department and confirm your name, the title of the award and the language of instruction.
An example of this document can be found here: https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/Individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/documents/TechUniCertification_in.pdf
      I hope that this helps.

  138. Dear,
I am applying to Tier 2 (general) and I was asked to provide evidence that I meet the English Language Requirement for this visa.
I got a PhD in Brazil, but I had a time (8 moths) at a UK University as an academic visitor, when I was awarded with the short-term student visa. Would this be recognized as English Language Assessment for the visa application?

    1. Hi Camila,
      Thank you for your comment.
We can look into your PhD degree however, this would need to have been taught solely in English to allow us to provide the Visas and Nationality service. The evidence we would need to see are the final certificate, full transcript (where possible) and a letter from the awarding university confirming the language(s) used throughout the course.
We would not be able to assess the UK university visit separately.
For further information about our Visas and Nationality service, please see here: https://www.naric.org.uk/visas%20and%20nationality/Default.aspx
      I hope that this helps.

  140. Hi,

I am HCPC(Health and Care Professional Council) registered which is regulatory body for allied health professionals. I have also worked in NHS in past as Tier 2 dependent. I have provided the English language proof during HCPC registration. Is HCPC registration proof sufficient during Tier 2 general Visa processing or getting NARIC certificate?

    Regards
    Smita

    1. Dear Smita,
Thank you for your comment. The Home Office has recently confirmed that doctors, dentists, nurses and midwives who have passed a test “accepted by the relevant professional regulatory body” are exempt from sitting an approved language test or providing other evidence of English language proficiency. This can be found on the Home Office website here (7.30):

      https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/830156/CCS0919963034_EXPLANATORY_MEMORANDUM__HC_2631__-_Web_Accessible.pdf

We would recommend that you check with the Home Office UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) to confirm if you need a statement from UK NARIC for your particular immigration application and your particular situation (and if any additional paperwork or evidence is necessary). As we are a separate organisation from the Home Office we are unable to advise on requirements for the visa application process, and so we recommend you contact the Home Office directly for more information. For your reference, the UKVI website can be accessed at the below address:

  141. Dear,
I am applying for a Tier 2 Visa General Worker and I would like to know more information about the English Language Proficiency Statement (ELPS). My PhD degree was awarded in Brazil, however, I was awarded a Research Internship PhD at University of Oxford for one year where I have this information described in my degree as part of whole PhD. I would like to apply an English Language Proficiency Statement from UK NARIC confirming English levels, since my degree is from a non-majority English-speaking country with part of the course acquired in the UK.
Do I am eligible for the English Language Proficiency Statement from UK NARIC since I did part of my PhD (one year- 12 months) in the UK?? In addition to this, I have many certificates from University of Virginia (USA) as well, where I did courses related to my PhD.

    thank you very much

    1. Hi Joanna! Thank you for your comment.
Although you have completed a part of the qualification/internship in the UK this does not make the overall qualification a UK award. This would still be considered a Brazilian award meaning that you will need the Visas and Nationality service to review the comparable level and the English language proficiency based on the requirements of this qualification.
Information about the Visas and Nationality service can be found here: https://www.naric.org.uk/Qualifications/VAN/Default.aspx
      I hope that this helps.

  142. Hi,
I did Bachelor’s & Masters Degree in India.
I am applying under Visas and Nationality service to confirm the level of your English language proficiency based on your qualification and according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This is the English Language Proficiency Statement (ELPS).
I am having Medium of Instruction letter which was taught in English Medium for Master’s Degree.
    & I don’t have for MOI for Bachelor’s Degree.
I have Transcripts,Final Degree for both Masters & Bachelors Degree. & MOI for Masters Degree.
Is it fine to apply to issue the certificate from NARIC with above documents or
you also need Bachelors Degree MOI ?

    please confirm.

    1. Hi Vadi,
      Thank you for your comment.
If you only require UK NARIC to comment on the Master degree then we would not need to see the Medium of Instruction letter for the Bachelor.
However, if you would like us to comment on both qualifications we would need to see the Medium of Instruction letter for each of the awards.
      Kind regards,
      UK NARIC

  143. Hello….Can I get the List of universities of India which is recognized by UK NARIC for getting admission to UK universities.

    1. Dear Shilpa,
      Thank you for your comment.
UK NARIC do not hold a list of institutions, to allow us to review your qualification we would need to see the documentation for the award as part of an application on our website: http://www.naric.org.uk
If you require a document to assist with applying to UK institutions I would recommend our Statement of Comparability service to compare the qualification from overseas to the UK frameworks: https://www.naric.org.uk/Qualifications/SOC/Default.aspx
      Kind regards,

  147. Hello,

I want to apply Visas and Nationality (English proficiency) and I have completed my Bachelor’s degree in Canada. Do I need to provide the medium of Instruction letter as Canada is an English language speaking country?

    Thank you for your help.

    Regards,

    Michelle

    1. Hi Michelle,
      Thank you for your comment.
If you are a citizen of Canada then you would not need to provide the medium of instruction letter as this would come under the exemption.
If this is the case you would only need to provide your Final Certificate and Transcript for the Canadian award.
I hope that this is of assistance.
      Kind regards,

  148. Hi Team Naric,

I am planning to apply for Naric english assessment certificate so that i can apply under UK new PBS immigration.

    Kindly confirm.

    Thanks,

  149. Hello,

I have completed my Bachelor’s degree (3Years) in a College which is affiliated with Mumbai University. Before this I have completed 3 Years Diploma which is also affiliated with Mumbai University.

After completing 3 years diploma, entry point for Bachelor’s degree is from 3rd semester. So my transcript will start from 3rd till 8th semester.

Do I need to provide the transcript for both Diploma and Degree in this case or only Bachelor’s degree transcript suffice.

If its mandatory to submit transcript from both Diploma and Degree, does it also require to submit MOI from both the institute?

    Kind regards,
    Mansi

I passed the examinations and became a member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. I have also completed my Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree of Curtin University of Technology(Australia) through distance learning in Hong Kong. Do I need to submit the medium of instruction letter for citizenship application(English proficiency)?

    Thanks with regards,
    Raymond

    1. Hi Raymond,
      Thank you for your message.
Usually for qualifications from English majority speaking countries we do not require the Medium of Instruction letter.
      Kind regards,

  155. Hello,

This is for skilled worker- Visas and Nationality Service.

I did my Bachelor’s degree in India which is affiliated to JNTU Kakinada University. I have my Final degree certificate along with the mark sheets for all years/semesters. Do I still need to get transcripts?

Due to COVID I am unable to get MOI from university and at the same time I am residing in other country. At this moment, MOI letter issued by the college I have studied with letterhead and signature of the Principal/Registrar is suffice?

While submitting the documents to visa office do I need to submit originals of all the above mentioned documents along with recieved UK NARIC certificate?

    Please help.

    Thanks,
    Haritha.

    1. Hi Haritha,
      Thank you for your message.
If you have all the marks sheets for each year/semester we would not usually require the transcript as this would repeat these details.
If the college is affiliated to the university this should be suitable.
For queries about requirements of the Home Office and the format in which they require supporting documents please contact an immigration adviser for assistance as we cannot comment on their processes.

  156. Hi,

I am a final year PhD student here in the UK. My master’s degree from Norway was assessed for English language competency by my UK university to be equivalent to CERF B2 in all four components (speaking, reading, writing and listening) before I was granted admission to pursue the PhD. I am now in the process of applying for a spouse visa. Do I need to submit my master’s degree again to NARIC for English language competency assessment or use the English language competency assessment (in the cas statement) done by my UK university to apply for the spouse visa?

    Many thanks,

    Kudjoe

    1. Dear Kudjoe,
      Thank you for your message.
If you require our service we are only able to assess the qualification (master) we are not able to provide an assessment based on another organisation’s review.
      Kind regards,

  158. Hello,

I have a query regarding the medium of instruction letter. So I have completed my Bachelors and Masters degree from India both in English. I have all the transcripts and degree certificates.

Because of the Covid Situation, Universities are closed and its getting difficult to get the MOI letter. However, I have been able to get the MOI letter for my Masters degree and not Bachelors. Will that be sufficient if I just use my Master’s degree for this?

    Thanks

  159. Hi,

I have completed my bachelors(BE) and masters degree(MBA) in India. I have got the consolidated marksheet and final degree certificates for both degrees. Do I need to send individual marksheets for evaluation or just consolidated marksheets, degree certificate with Medium of Instruction should suffice?

Also do you expect graduation details as well or only the post graduation details will be sufficient?

    1. Hi Shekar,
Thank you for your comment. If you have the consolidated marksheet showing the subjects and grades for all years, we would not usually need to see the individual mark sheets. Also, you can submit multiple qualifications for the Visas and Nationality service as long as they are of a university degree level and taught solely in English.
      Kind regards,
      UK NARIC

  160. Hi
I have done my bachelors(BE) and Masters(MBA) in India. I have got the consolidated marksheets detailing the subjects and marks in each semester along with final degree certificate. I can get the MOI letter as well.

    1. Do you expect individual marksheets/transcripts or consolidated marksheet alone will be sufficient?

    2. Also do I need to assess English language proficiency for both degrees or masters(highest degree) alone will be sufficient?

Please clarify on both questions above.

    1. Hi Shekar,
Thank you for your comment. If you have the consolidated marksheet showing the subjects and grades for all years, we would not usually need to see the individual mark sheets. Also, you can submit multiple qualifications for the Visas and Nationality service as long as they are of a university degree level and taught solely in English.

  161. Hello,

I am applying for a family VISA as a spouse to live and work in the UK.

I have obtained my bachelors in Education degree in South Africa which was taught in both English and Afrikaans. Language modules were awarded separately.

I am unsure wether I can apply for a NARIC as it states the degree must be ‘solely’ studied in English. Would my extra language modules make my application void?

    Thanks,
    Lize

    1. Dear Lize,
      Thank you for your comment.
If aspects of the course were not taught in English we would not be able to provide an assessment of this for our Visas and Nationality service.
      Kind regards,

  162. Hello,

I have obtained my bachelor’s in education degree in South Africa. My modules were taught in English, except for my Afrikaans and Duch module. Would it void my NARIC application if those modules were not taught in English?

    Thank you,

    Lize

    1. Dear Lize,
      Thank you for your comment.
If aspects of the course were not taught in English we would not be able to provide an assessment of this for our Visas and Nationality service.

  163. Good Day NARIC Team,

Does a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science taught in English and graduated with SECOND CLASS final degree certificate is suffice for NARIC assessments to certify IELTS is exempted ?

    Thanks,
    Ram

    1. Dear Ram,
      Thank you for your comment.
Please submit your Final Certificate, Transcript and Medium of Instruction letter for the Visas and Nationality service so that our specialists can review if the qualification is suitable.
      Kind regards,

  164. I am an eye surgeon practicing in India. I have come to know about recently introduced health and care worker visa. I have done MBBS and MD ophthalmology from AIIMS New Delhi and have more than 25 years of work experience. I am not registered with GMC of UK and neither having FRCS.
My question is if my qualifications are considered at par with corresponding UK qualifications and I get certification from NARIC UK, will I get specialist registration with GMC and get health and care work visa on the basis of this certification?
I am already in a position to get sponsorship letter from licensed employer in UK.
I want to know if NARIC can assess medical degrees also or it is only for non medical and paramedics. GMC and Royal college of ophthalmologists websites
have not updated any change in eligibility criteria after introduction of health and care worker visa but gov. UK website mentions reference of uknaric.org website for individuals applying for health care worker visa with overseas qualifications

    Regards
    Dr Harpreet Singh

    1. Dear Harpreet,
      Thank you for your comment.
UK NARIC can look to provide a comparison of qualifications as long as they have been issued by a recognised and approved body in the country of study. With medical qualifications we can sometimes assess the University qualifications, however, we cannot comment on specialised courses after the initial awards.
If you are applying for an award to comment on English Proficiency to assist with the Visa process we would usually need to see a Bachelor, Master or PhD degree that has been taught solely in English.
As to your query about the GMC you will need to direct this to them directly as only they can comment on their processes.
      Kind regards,
      UK NARIC

  165. Hi,

It is proving very difficult even to contact the college/university to request MoI letter from them given most of them are closed. I have a BA & MA in English literature from University of Madras, India. Is a MoI still required even though my degree is in English literature. Thank you

    Regards,

    G

    1. Dear Gomathi,
      Thank you for your comment.
The Medium of Instruction letter is a mandatory document required by UK NARIC to assess the English Proficiency Level of an award.
We would need this document if you are applying for our Visas and Nationality service.
      Kind Regards,
      UK NARIC

      1. Thank you for the reply. I appreciate it. I have received the MoI letter from the college for my BA, but unable to reach anybody at the college for MA. Can I apply for visas & nationality service with just the MoI for BA?

  166. Hello. I’m applying for British citizenship and would need to obtain both AQUALS and ELPS. I completed my Master’s degree in the Netherlands, where the medium of instruction was English. I have my final certificate, transcripts and the MOI letter – all in English and ready to submit. However, my transcript clearly states that a few courses had been studied at a different university, in another country. Can I still receive ELPS?

  167. Hi,

I have a degree from a university from Finland.
In the diploma supplement provided, there is a specific section called “Language of instruction/examination”.
In this section, it is clearly written that the language is English.

Do I still need to provide a MOI letter from the university?

If I do, I would really appreciate if you can provide an answer to the email address that I provided with this message so that I can present it as a proof to the university that I still need it despite the diploma supplement provided.

    Many thanks in advance,
    Murad

  168. Hi,

Can the medium of instruction be generic. or must it also contain teh indivudual’s name and registration number on it? My college usually issues generic MoI letter without mentioning name of individual student. following is the content. Is the following content acceptable??

    CERTIFICATE – MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION

This is to certify that the medium of instruction of our institution is in English during the entire course of the programme of study. The medium of instruction is in compliance with the regulations of our affiliating institution, The University of Madras Besides, students have to take compulsory courses in Foundation Level English in Undergraduate programmes and it is mandatory to secure a minimum pass in the English course.
