UK NARIC Statements of Comparability and English Language Assessment can help with UK Visa and British citizenship applications

Note that since this article was published, immigration guidance has changed. See our post UK NARIC’s Visas and Nationality Service launches on 6 April for more up-to-date information. Also, as of 6 April 2017, UK NARIC statements can be used to evidence English levels A1, A2, B1, and B2, in addition to C1.

UK NARIC has been receiving a lot of enquiries recently about UK Visas and British citizenship.

We cannot advise on exact requirements for visa and citizenship applications – and you cannot apply for a Visa through UK NARIC – but our services can help you with your application.

Our Statement of Comparability can help you evidence the level of your international qualifications.*

Our English Language Assessment can help you evidence your level of English.*

If you have a qualification comparable to British Bachelor level that has been taught in English then UK NARIC can check and verify that you have level C1 English in the Common European Framework.*

We may also be able to check and verify for lower levels of English if you do not need level C1.*

Check the UK Home office web pages on visas and immigration for full information on UK Visas and citizenship.*

  1. Hi! I am applying for my tier 2 visa (general), what services do i need to take from UK NARIC? Is English language assessment enough or i need to apply for Statement for comparability?
    Thank you in advance

    1. Hi Jesus,

Thanks for your comment, unfortunately we are not in a position to advise you on the requirements for a VISA and you should check the Home office website listed in the article above for further details, on the evidence required. You should then be in a position to decide which of our services maybe most appropriate to meet your needs.

      Best wishes

  2. Hi, I want to apply for the service of Statement of Comparability, my certificate and final transcript are in Spanish, I’m from Argentina, and I have a certified translation of both documents, Do I need also add an Apostille certificate in my certificate and final transcript?

    Thank you in advance

    1. Hi Pamela,

We don’t require an apostille certificate for your translations providing they are certified translations and the rest of your application is in order we will be able to proceed with the comparison of your awards.

      Kind regards

  3. I am graduated in Medicine from Russia and my qualification is MD Physician (Doctor) from WHO recognised institute. My all qualification documents are certified and APOSTILLED (Convention de la Haye du 5 Octobre 1961) by the Deputy Head of the Federal Service of Supervision in Education and Science of Russia (No 99705). Do I still need NARIC Statement of comparability to apply for UK settlement?? Moreover, I have also got the letter from my uni that all course was taught in English. I searched online and it says 69 countries are members of Hague convention (including Russia and UK) and all accept and recognise a document with an Apostille.
Will I still need the statement of comparibility from Naric?
I would really appreciate if you can reply asap.
    Thank you.

    1. Hi Anny,

Thanks for getting in touch, please visit the UK Home office web pages on visas and immigration (www.gov.uk) for details on the necessary requirements. As outlined in the article above a “Statement of Comparability” of can assist in demonstrating the academic level of your award and an “English Language Assessment” can assist in demonstrating that your qualification has been taught to a C1 level of English in the CEFR framework where appropriate. Although UK NARIC services can assist where required UK NARIC is not directly involved with this process and are unable to advise on visa and immigration requirements.

      Kind regards

  4. Hello! I’m an English teacher and my degree was taught in English, French and Spanish, do I still need to take a test to demonstrate my English language proficiency? And, do I need to have an apostille certificate for all of my documents?

    Thanks in advance

    1. Hi Anny,

Thanks for getting in touch, please visit the UK Home office web pages on visas and immigration (www.gov.uk) for details on the necessary English language requirements. Although UK NARIC services can assist where required, we are not directly involved with this process and are unable to advise on these requirements.

  5. Hi, I am in uk as a student and i want to switch T2. I have a UK NARIC verified Bachelor’s Honours Degree. Shall i use this degree as Home Office need UK Bachelor’s Degree to switch T2. And i also have IELTS.

    1. Hi Pukar,

Thanks for your message but although our services can be used for these purposes, we are not directly involved with the visa application process, so are unable to advise. Please check the requirements on the UKVI website at http://www.gov.uk

  6. Hi, Does English Languague Assessment also imply that the degree is comparable to that of UK degree though it does not implicitly mentioned in the letter.

    1. Hi Hemanth,

In order for the English language assessment to be completed, as part of the minimum requirements for this service it must be equal in academic level to a British Bachelors degree otherwise this service cannot be offered. So although not explicitly stated it can be inferred. A Statement of Comparabiluty can be used where a formal written document is required which can include a comparison of all overseas awards from school level upwards.

  7. I need to apply for a spouse visa, Is a certificate from UK NARIC stating that my English language meets CEFR C1 enough or do I still need to give the test?

    1. Hi Manali

Thanks for your message although we offer services that may assist you with visa we are not directly involved in this process and are unable to comment on requirements. Please see the Home Office website (www.gov.uk) for more details.

Our blog offers some advice on how our services have been used for this purposes which can be seen here: http://bit.ly/1BQLIHP

  8. Hi
I am going to apply dependent visa, can you please guide me which service of uk naric I need, will it be statement of comparability or English language assessment, my degree is from india.
    Thanks

    1. Hi,
This is a question that will need to be confirmed by the Home Office directly as they are the decision makers in the process. We can explain what are services can do but we are unable to comment specifically on your visa requirements.

  9. Hi
I have recently applied for English Language Assessment and Statement of Comparability over my one-year MSc degree from Sweden and three-year PhD degree from Spain. Both qualifications were taught and researched in English that I enclosed the official letter from both qualifications to confirm my claim.
If the NARIC confirms my either one-year MSc degree or three-year PhD degree (or with together) that are equal to CEFR C1 level, UKVI Tier 2 General Visa application will go ahead successfully? I mean, there is no need for at least Bachelor degree confirmation? MSc or PhD English level C1 confirmation is enough for Visa Tier 2?

    1. Thank you for your message. We advise you to contact the Home Office to confirm this information as they are the decision makers in the process.

  10. HI,

I have applied for English Language Assessment with provisional degree as my original degree will be issued in Aug-Sept this year. I have also provided full transcript as the evidence that my course is finished ,results are out and i passed all my modules including project work.

    Now my questions are –
this provisional degree will have any impact on your certification?
English certificate could be challenged ?

    kind regards
    Max

    1. Hi Max,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

We may be able to provide a comparison based solely on the provisional certificate; please submit the documents you do have for consideration by a regional specialist who will advise further.

Please note if we are able to proceed, we would include an additional sentence referencing that we have not seen a copy of the final certificate. This does not affect the outcome of our assessment, however we are unable to advise how other organisations may view this.

      Kind regards,

      UK NARIC

  11. HI,
I’m a nurse from Lithuania. I have translated my diploma into english with translator confirmation. Do I need an apostille for getting Statement of Comparability?

    1. Thank you for your message. Providing you have used a certified English translator there is no need to provide an apostille for a Statement of Comparability.

  12. Hi

I need to apply for spouse visa and my wife got a bachelors degree (4 years BS degree) from Bahria university Islamabad Pakistan that was taught in English. I have checked Points based calculator but strangely when I enter details of her degree and university it doesn’t show any points for English. Bahria university is highly recognised university in Pakistan.

Please can you confirm whether UK NARIC will be able to verify her degree as UK equivalent using different sources? I need English assessment certificate confirming her Bachelors degree is UK equivalent and taught in English. I will apply for UK NARIC certificate soon after your reply.

    Best regards

    1. Dear Fahim,

Thank you for your message. We cannot provide results of an individual assessment via social media. However, you can speak to one of our advisers on 08713307033 who can provide you with further advice for your award. Our lines are open Monday to Friday 9-5

  13. Hi,

I am in a process of applying for Settlement(ILR) in the month of May-2016 and as per the information that the self-assessment UKVI Points-Based Calculator web pages are going to go away from 05-Apr-2016.

    1. Is it mandatory to get the official UK NARIC statements or the existing degree certificates and transcript should work ?
As i have already proved my English proficiency in the initial tier-1 application.

    2. If it is mandatory to get the official UK NARIC statements, then which certificates are required as i can see two options
    a) Statement of Comparability.
    b) English Language Assessment.
which one should i be applying ?

Could you please let us know, as i do have original following document from the University from Pune/India.
    1. Degree certificates
    2. English language certificate
    3. Degree Transcript
    4. Degree Marksheet.

Also if you could advice, if this will same for dependent.

Your advice would be really appreciated on the same.

    thanks
    Navin

    1. Hi,

      Thank you for your query.

We recommend you contact the Home Office directly for information on visa points and further information regarding your initial Tier 1 application. Their website is https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigrationhttps://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigrationhttps://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigrationhttps://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration

      Kind regards

      UK NARIC

    2. Hi Navin
Please understand that we are unable to advise on particular immigration and settlement applications.
The Home Office can give definitive advice on what is required in particular individual circumstances and situations.
However, the new UK NARIC Visas and Nationality portal goes live tomorrow (www.naric.org.uk/visasandnationality) and that is an intelligent portal. If you answer the questions, it will indicate what documents you need to send to us. The application process via that portal will result in your receiving the documents you need to support your application, whether qualification evidence, or English language evidence, or both. Therefore, using that portal, you do not need to worry about choosing statements or services. You can also submit multiple qualifications at the time of application. There are a number of questions you will need to answer as you go through the application portal.
It does sound like you have a comprehensive set of documents, which should be a help.
I hope this information is useful.

  14. Hi,

I just wanted to know if the ELA will only state the C1 level of English or will it state the appropriate level of english ?

    Thanks
    Anu

    1. Dear Anu,

In regards to the UK NARIC service you require, this is dependant on the information you need us to provide. The Statement of Comparability service provides a statement confirming the academic level of your qualification in the UK’s qualifications framework (such as Bachelor’s, Master’s). It does not comment on the medium of instruction. UK NARIC’s English Language Assessment provides an assessment and a statement to confirm that an international academic qualification deemed comparable to a UK Bachelor, Master’s or (in exceptional circumstances) PhD degree is taught in English to the standard of CEFR B1, B2 or C1. Please note, for a separate written assessment confirming the comparable UK level of your academic qualification, you would also need to apply for the UK NARIC Statement of Comparability.

      Kind regards

      UK NARIC

  15. Hello,

I shall be applying for a Tier 2 (General) visa soon, from India. I have a Masters Degree from a UK university (2015). I wanted to know whether I still require an English language assessment, and if the NARIC provides the same for UK universities.
I have been through the UKVI website, and it mentions that the Degree must be ‘comparable’ to a bachelor’s or Master’s from the UK. So I am assuming that having a Masters from the UK would not need a separate certification.

    Regards,

    Chandni

    1. Hi Chandni,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

We are unable to advise on specific visa requirements and recommend you check with UKVI/ the Home Office directly. The role of UK NARIC, however, is to comment on overseas qualifications only. We do not comment on UK qualifications or provide English Language Assessments/ Visa and Nationality Statements for these.

      I hope this helps.

      Kind regards,

      UK NARIC

  16. Hi,
I am going to apply for tier 2 (general) visa.
I wonder if instead of one “Visa and Nationality Statement” it would be possible for me to apply for a separate “statement of comparability” plus an “English Language Assessment”?

I am a bit short of time; that’s why I would like to to choose the fist option which has a fast-track possibility.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    1. Hi,

The Visas and Nationality statement is the new designated service supporting individuals applying for UK visas or for settlement in the UK, provided by UK NARIC on behalf of the Home Office. As we understand, the Home Office will accept existing Statements of Comparability and English Language Assessments to support applications for immigration to the UK for a transition period.  The length of this transition period has not yet been confirmed.

We suggest that you contact the Home Office directly to confirm this issue.

I hope this is of assistance.

      1. Hi doctor,

Please note that UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and that we are unable to advise on visa requirements or the tier and/or route for which you may be applying.

For further information on visa and immigration requirements, you would need to contact the Home Office directly. Their website is https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration

The UKVI Telephone number is 0300 1232253

I hope this information is helpful.

        Kind regards

  17. Hi,

I am going to apply for Tier-2 visa from India. I submitted application for “Visa and Nationality” service on UK NARIC.

The assessment had been completed and dispatched on 11th August 2016. But, Still I have not received my assessment or UK NARIC certification.

I opted for Standard Airmail postage service.

I’m waiting for UK NARIC certificate only. Other all documents are ready for visa application.

Could you please guide me what should I do further to get it?

    It’s very urgent.

    Hoping for the quick response.

    Thanks.
    Good day!!

    1. Hi,

Thank you for your comment. Royal Mail quote an estimated delivery time for standard airmail of 3 to 5 working days for European destinations and 7 to 10 working days for the rest of the world; this does not allow for possible delays at borders and/or custom controls. Replacement copies of your statement can be requested via the user portal.

      1. Dear sir,

I made an application for my wife on 21/08/2017 and we received a message on 14/09/2017 from UKNARIC website that assessment dispatched but we still Havant received the certificate.

        Please advise accordingly.

        Regards.

        Seeratali@hotmail.com

      2. Hi Seerat,

You will need to send this as a message on your online application so an UK NARIC Advisor can look into this. Alternatively, you can call us on (0044) (0)871 330 7033, Monday to Friday (between 9:00am and 5:00pm), to speak to an Information Adviser and they will be happy to discuss this with you further. If the mail doe snot reach you within a certain time frame we can send another copy to the same address free of charge.

        Many thanks,
        UK NARIC

    2. Dear Jalpesh, I am applying for tier 2 (General VISA). I have my PhD degree which was taught in english and my University has also stated and given me the certificate confirming my degree was taught in english. Do we still need to get it confirmed from NARIC certification for VISA application?

      1. Dear Gaurav,

Yes, you have to get the assessment done from UK NARIC, service “Visa and Nationality statements” in order to confirm that your degree is equivalent to UK degree and your English language proficiency statement.
You have to submit your original statements along with your visa application form which you will receive from UK NARIC.

      2. Dear Jalpesh,
Thank you for your reply. I have one more doubt. During filling up the VISA application the category in which I am appealing for English proficiency was my PhD degree. Infact the postdoctoral job I have got was on the basis of PhD only.

I am curious to know whether the certification from NARIC on my PhD degree would be enough or I would have to send all the degrees from B.Sc and M.Sc?

I would appreciate if you could give me detail at gauravverma@jnu.ac.in

Kindly provide me your contact no as well, if in case I would have any doubt I will contact you.

    3. Hi Jalpesh.
Just try and get in touch with main post office and post man also. As it does take time to reach from delhi office.
Royal mail post are delivered in a day or two to delhi office but further it does take time..

      hope it reaches you soon.
      Navin

      1. Hi Navin,

        Thanks for writing me.

I am very glad to inform you that finally I received my “visa and nationality statements” yesterday.

        Thanks.

  18. Hi,

I already applied for the english language assessment for settlement visa, is there a way of fast tracking the service, as i did not come across the fast track option when making the application. and I need the results urgently.

    Thanks

    1. Hi,

Thank you for your comment. Fast Track options are available for an English Language Assessment; the option can be found in the ‘Update/ Amend your application’ section of the User Portal. Alternatively, please send a message through the secure messaging function of the User Portal and an adviser can assist with your specific application further.

  19. Hi,

I am UK Citizen and want to apply for spouse VISA. My wife completed her BA & MSc in Pakistan. As per the Home Office requirements we need proof of her qualification being Bachelors equivalent and taught in English. I have her degree certificates/transcripts, medium of instruction letter etc. which I shall upload to my application. My question is which UK NARIC service shall i apply for? Statement of Comparability, English Language or both?

I want to ensure I am requesting the correct service. The website is confusing as it doesn’t explicitly state which service i should request for Spouse Visa.

    1. Hi, we are unable to advise which service(s) may be required for a specific visa, and recommend you check with the Home Office/ UKVI directly for advice. Further details on the visa requirements can be found here.

Should you need UK NARIC to comment on the medium of instruction of the degree, only the English Language Assessment will do this. Should you need UK NARIC to comment specifically that the degree is comparable to a UK degree, only the Statement of Comparability will do this. The new VisasAndNationality service replaces the Home Office UKVI Points-Based Calculator web pages. This is the new designated service supporting individuals applying for UK visas or for settlement in the UK, provided by UK NARIC on behalf of the Home Office.

For information on the service and how to apply, please visit the following page:

      https://www.naric.org.uk/visas%20and%20nationality/Further-information.aspx

Once again, we recommend that you check  with the Home Office UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) if you need a statement from UK NARIC for your particular immigration application and your particular situation (and if any additional paperwork or evidence is necessary). UKVI (and not UK NARIC) has the final word on all these matters.

  20. Hi,

I have recently started my application for the Visa and Nationalities service. How can I apply for the Waiver Translation service mentioned on the home page? The “Qualification” page in “My Application” says I should attach certified translations of my documents; however, I don’t understand how to apply for these certified translations through the website.

    Best,
    Mikhail

    1. Dear Mikhail,

Thank you for your comment. The Translation Waiver Service is only available under our ‘blue route’ and for the standard Statement of Comparability service. The Visa and Nationality statement which is under our ‘red route’ unfortunately does not have the Translation Waiver Service and therefore you will be required to present certified English translations of your documentation.

      Kind regards,
      UK NARIC

  22. Hi

I have a bachelors (B.Sc) and Masters (MCA) from India and I am applying for Type 2 general visa (skilled worker) for which I need the Statement of Comparability and English Language Assessment from NARIC.

Should I use the blue route or the red route from the NARIC Portal?
Should I need to send the certificate and transcripts of both the degrees or only the Master degree should suffice?

    1. Thank you for your query.

You are welcome to submit as many qualifications as you wish at no additional fee.

I hope this is of assistance.

    2. Dear Sajeesh follow the blue route to upload your documents. That is a good question. NARIC recommends as much details as you can and there is no restriction on uploading the documents they charge the same. If you could upload all the documents of B.Sc and MCA would be more than enough else the qualifying degree (Which I believe is your MCA) would be suffice.

      Gaurav

  23. Hi,

I looked at the sample Visa and Nationality service – English language Proficiency Statement.
it says the level of English meets requirements for CEFR C1.

The UK immigration website says B1 level is accepted.
If my degree is not C1 Level, will the appropriate CEFR level be mentioned on the report?

    Any help will be appreciated.

    -Aditya

    1. Hi Aditya,

The Visas and Nationality Statements will give a level of English proficiency on the CEFR Scale.

You’re right in that, if the English level of your award does not meet C1 then the relevant CEFR level will be given in the statement instead.

I hope this is of assistance.

  24. How are u.k naric visa and nationality documents different from the English language assessment and statement of comparability separately?

    1. Hi Ayesha,

      Thank you for your comment.

The new VisasAndNationality service replaces the Home Office UKVI Points-Based Calculator web pages. This is the new designated service supporting individuals applying for UK visas or for settlement in the UK, provided by UK NARIC on behalf of the Home Office.

These statements confirm your academic qualification level and/or English language proficiency – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route.

However, if you have an English Language Assessment and Statement of Comparability already from UK NARIC you can also present these. The English Language Assessment and the Statement of Comparability presented together provide the same information as the Visas and Nationality service.

It is to our understanding there will be a grace period where the Home office will still be accepting these assessments, however you may wish to contact the Home Office directly for further clarity.

Hope this information is of assistance.

      Kind Regards,

      UK NARIC

    1. Hi Siman,

      Thank you for your comment.

The new VisasAndNationality service replaces the Home Office UKVI Points-Based Calculator web pages. This is the new designated service supporting individuals applying for UK visas or for settlement in the UK, provided by UK NARIC on behalf of the Home Office.

For information on the service and how to apply, please visit the following page:
      https://www.naric.org.uk/visas%20and%20nationality/Further-information.aspx

We recommend that you check with the Home Office UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) if you need a statement from UK NARIC for your particular immigration application and your particular situation (and if any additional paperwork or evidence is necessary). UKVI (and not UK NARIC) has the final word on all these matters.
To meet the requirements for UK NARIC to be able to provide this service you must hold a degree of Bachelors, Masters or Phd level from an overseas institution that was solely taught in the medium of English.

The Visas and Nationality Service costs £125 + VAT (£150) and is a 10 Working Day turnaround. Please visit our website and Take the Red Route for Visas and Nationality to read further about the Service that we provide. These statements confirm your academic qualification level and/or English language proficiency – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route.

I hope this information is of assistance to you. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

  26. Hi! I want to apply for Statement of Comparability. I am a nurse back in my country and I have a Bachelors Degree in Nursing that is taught in English. I also have an English Exam Certificate of GRADE 5 ENTRY LEVEL CERTIFICATE IN ESOL INTERNATIONAL (SPEAKING AND LISTENING) ENTRY 3 CEFR LEVEL B1.1. Is this English Certificate sufficient or do I need to take a different one. If so, what English test can I take? Many thanks.

    1. Dear Gerry,

      Thank you for your comment.

The Statement of Comparability will not comment on your level of English proficiency. This service is designed solely to provide a comparison of your qualification to a level in the UK framework.

Our English Language Assessment is based on a Bachelor degree level qualification that has been taught solely in English, in a country where English isn’t the first language. If your qualification meets these requirements we can potentially provide an English Language Assessment to confirm the level of English proficiency in regards to a CEFR level.

We would be unable to take into account an ESOL test for this service.

Further information regarding our service can be found here:

  27. Hi i have completed my Masters degree in UK. do i still have to apply for UK NARIC English assessment certificate.
this is as a part of my visa application

    1. Thank you for your comment.

It is our understanding that you can present your Master degree that was awarded in the UK directly to the Home Office for consideration.

As an organisation we would be unable to comment on a UK qualification in regards to English proficiency.

      Kind regards

  28. Hi,
I am completing my PhD in sciences in Israel, and starting my post-doctoral training in the UK.
I do not have my PhD certificate yet, but I would like to get a statement of comparability for the visa application.
Can I send my Msc certificate and transcripts from my Msc and PhD together with a medium instruction letter that says “will be awarded a PhD degree”?

    Thank you

    1. Dear Julia,

      Thank you for your comment.

The Visas and Nationality service via our ‘red route’ is the recommended route for all visa purposes as this is the designated service supporting individuals applying for UK visas or for settlement in the UK, provided by UK NARIC on behalf of the Home Office. Based on your immigration tier and route we can provide you with a document that will confirm the comparability of your award and if applicable the English proficiency. In order to complete this service we require a final certificate, academic transcript and a medium of instruction letter from the awarding institution that confirms the degree course has been taught solely in English. Please note that we can only assess qualifications that have been completed. If you are still studying for your PhD at the time of the application, we would not be able to assess this as the qualification is incomplete.

If you would like to use our services you can call us on (0044) (0)871 330 7033, Monday to Friday (between 9:00am and 5:00pm), to speak to an Information Adviser and they will be happy to discuss this with you further. Detailed information on our services and the various steps to take can also be found here:

      I hope this helps.

  29. Hi
I have a bachelors (B.Sc) done full time and Masters (MCA) done part time from India and I am applying for Type 2 general visa for which I need the Statement of Comparability and English Language Assessment from NARIC.
Should I use the blue route or the red route from the NARIC Portal?
Should I need to send the certificate and transcripts of both the degrees or only the Master degree done in part time should suffice?

    1. Hi Syed,

  30. Hi,
I am applying for an English language assessment.
In the UK NARIC website I am required to state the country where the degree was obtained, in my case this is Israel, however in the language field the system only has Arabic while in my case it should be Hebrew.
    What should I do?

    Thank you

  31. Hello,

What is the difference between “Visa and Nationality Certificate” and “statement of comparability” + “English Language Assessment”?

If i submit “statement of comparability” + “English Language Assessment” for visa application instead of “Visa and Nationality Certificate” is it acceptable by home office?

    Please let me know

    1. Dear Vishal,

      Thank you for your message.

Please be advised UK NARIC Visas and Nationality is the new designated service supporting individuals applying for UK visas or for settlement in the UK, provided on behalf of the Home Office, United Kingdom Visas and Immigration (UKVI).

This new online application system has been specifically developed and will provide official UK NARIC Visas and Nationality statements, custom-designed for immigration purposes.

These statements confirm your academic qualification level and/or English language proficiency – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route.

The new security-enhanced statements present clearly all the key information regarding your qualification(s)(about your qualifications, country of study etc) required by UKVI immigration case workers.

Whilst we would recommend the Visa and Nationality red route, you are still able to use the blue work and study route and order the English Language Assessment.

It is to our understanding there will be a grace period where the Home office will still be accepting these assessments, however you may wish to contact the Home Office directly for further clarity.

I hope this information is of assistance to you.

      Kind regards,

      UK NARIC

  33. Hi NARIC Team,

I am applying for Tier 2 General visa using valid Certificate of Sponsorship. I graduated from University of Delhi in year 2008, and all my marksheets are in English though my Degree Certificate is in Hindi.

How can I get this problem solved?

    Thanks
    Harpreet

    1. Dear Harpreet

      Thank you for your enquiry.

In order for UK NARIC to provide the Visas & Nationality service we do require the following documents for each of the qualifications you would like to be included:
      – Final Certificate
      – Full Academic Transcripts / Mark Sheets
      – A Medium of Instruction Letter from the Awarding Institution

If your academic transcripts are in English and your final certificate is in Hindi, we will need certified English translations for your final certificate.

I hope this information is of assistance to you. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

  34. Hi I’m applying for a uk spousal visa for my Husband he is originally from Hong Kong but studied in Australia and has an Australian bachelors degree. As Australia is an English speaking country does he need to get NARIC to confirm with a statement that his degree meets the required English language requirements?

    1. Dear Sam,

      Thank you for your comment.

As your husband’s Degree was completed within a Majority English speaking country he is exempt from proving his level of English Language.

Whilst we would recommend the Visa and Nationality red route, you are still able to use the blue work and study route and order the Statement of Comparability. A Statement of Comparability will provide a comparability of your husband’s overseas qualifications to the level in which they sit on the UK Framework.

We recommend that you check with the Home Office UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) if your husband needs a statement from UK NARIC for his particular immigration application and his particular situation (and if any additional paperwork or evidence is necessary). UKVI (and not UK NARIC) has the final word on all these matters.

I hope this is of assistance.

  35. Hi.

I am applying for a Tier 2 General visa. I have completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in medicine from India and the medium of instruction was English. All my certificates are in English as well.
Is it essential to provide Master’s degree as well or is my Bachelor’s degree sufficient for certificate of English Language assessment from UK Naric?

    1. Hi Jay,

      Thanks for your comment.

The new VisasAndNationality service replaces the Home Office UKVI Points-Based Calculator web pages. This is the new designated service supporting individuals applying for UK visas or for settlement in the UK, provided by UK NARIC on behalf of the Home Office.

To meet the requirements for UK NARIC to be able to provide this service you must hold a degree of Bachelors, Masters or Phd level from an overseas institution that was solely taught in the medium of English.

You can apply for this service online at http://www.naric.org.uk

  36. Hi,

I am trying to apply for family spouse visa. What English qualifications are required for the spouse visa from U.K. Naric? There are few options in the UK Naric website.

    1)Statement of Comparability
    2) English Language Assessment
    3) Career Path Report
    4) Statement of Comparability for the early years sector
    5) Visa and Nationality service

Which one should I choose to apply for the spouse visa?

      1. I have done my vocational course in radio diagnosis and imagining technology, medium of instructions was in English, can I apply for English language assessment and statements of comparability for my course, study hour was 1357 hours.

  37. Hi

I am a bit confused regarding the the Medium of Instruction letter. The FAQ section says: “A Medium of Instruction letter is a document that confirms the language of instruction used throughout your degree programme.
It should be issued by a central administration unit / the registry at your university rather than a lecturer who may have taught you. Typically, they look like this.”

But the example document provided has the student’s name and number. Isn’t it acceptable if the letter simply states that the course (or all courses in the institue) was taught in English? That the student took the course should be evident from the certificate and transcript.

Secondly, is it acceptable if the transcript specifies that “The medium of instruction is English” – since the transcript satisfies the criteria that it is a “document that confirms the language of instruction used throughout your degree programme” and “issued by a central administration unit / the registry at your university”

Thanks in advance for your help
    Enakshi

    1. Hi Enakshi,

      Thanks for your message.

The Medium of Instruction letter must mention the Students name and Degree course Title as well as confirming the Course undertaken at this particular time of study was taught solely in English. We cannot accept a letter that confirms the institution as a whole is an English medium University. Please follow this link to find a link of an example of a Medium of Instruction Letter https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/English%20Language%20Assessment.aspx

  38. Hi we are applying for Spouse visa, UK Naric has issued us both Statement Comparability and Level of English for my Hubby’s degree. I noticed that you stated his degree meets CEFR level C1 when Home Office wants A1. I had used the Visa and Nationality route on your site and stated we are applying for spouse so a bit confused you stated C1 instead of A1.

  39. Hello everyone

For about a week now I’ve been in UK, I’m currently in UK for work purpose, I got my work visa to UK processed by Team Alex, You would want to apply for your visa to U.S.A, CANADA, UK, INDIA or to any other country about 2 months before travel, Apply directly, Contact Alex customer operation team on:onlinevisaapplication.usa@gmail.com and request for visa information Form that has all the step by step process on how to obtain a visa along with the fees for processing.

  40. Hi,

I intend to apply for a English Language Assessment and Statement of Comparability using VisasandImmigration service for a Tier 2 General visa application purpose. Will these 2 statements be issued to me in PDF files to my email or is it compulsory to submit hardcopy original statements to UKVI and not printed PDF statements? hence, the need to use delivery to send to my residential address outside of UK? Thank you in advance.

  41. Dear UK Naric,

I got both statement , English Language Assessment and Statement of Comparability, i got ‘C1’ in English Language Assessment and where my Statement of Comparability is equal to ‘Bachelor (ordinary) degree. I am going to apply for settlement, i think English assessment is fulfilling the requirement as i got C1 while B1 is the at-least requirement of UK settlement. Could you please confirm me that is Bachelor (ordinary) degree from NARIC’s statement of comparability fulfilling the requirement as well?

    Many thanks

    Regards,
    Rizwana

    1. Hi Rizwana,

Please note that UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and that we are unable to advise on Tier requirements for the visa application process. We recommend you contact the Home Office directly for information on visa Tiers and Requirements. Their website is https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration.

From our understanding the award needs to be comparable to a UK Bachelors, Masters or Phd award and be taught solely in English. As your award has been successfully assessed through both out Blue Route services then this should be accepted by the Home Office. It is to our understanding there will be a grace period where the Home office will still be accepting these assessments, however you may wish to contact the Home Office directly for further clarity.

      Many thanks,

  42. Hi,
I am a Nigerian and English is my first language. I have a degree in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University taught in English. I also wrote some papers with ACCA and did some online courses all in English. If am unable to get a letter from my school stating my certificate was gotten in English can I still apply for English language assessment with my transcript all in English.

    Regards,

    Nurudeen Eroje

    1. Hi Nurudeen,

      Thank you for your message.

For UK NARIC to provide a service which comment son English proficiency, we would need to be presented with a Medium of Instruction letter for your degree course. You can contact the Awarding Institution directly and request this document. The letter needs to be presented in an official letter format.
We require evidence of the medium of instruction of your degree from the university’s central administration unit / registry.
Please follow this link to find a link of an example of a Medium of Instruction Letter https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/English%20Language%20Assessment.aspx

Alternatively, if you are required to prove a level of your English language proficiency then it is recommended you look into the alternative methods, such as an IELTS or SELT Exam. (https://www.ielts.org/)

I hope this information is of assistance to you. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

  43. Hi,

I along with my spouse, applying for ILR and I need some clarification to understand under which category of NARIC should we apply for knowledge of English requirement.

I did my Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from Madras University, 2003.
My wife did her Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from Vinayaka Missions University, 2009.

Our certificates are in English and I am currently on Tier 2 ICT and applying for ILR.

Under VisasAndNationality service, it does not list Intra-company Transfer Tier 2 specified.

Between Statement of Comparability and English Language Assessment, which one will be right one for us. Also, do we need to supply letter from our university to prove our course was taught in English.

    Thanks,
    Hari

  46. I get my degree from the United States; do I still need to prove a medium of instruction letter? Is the university in the United States supposed to teach in English?

      • A Medium of Instruction Letter from the Awarding Institution confirming it was taught solely in English – this document is only required if the qualification is from a non-majority English speaking country as set out by the Home Office. Therefore, if your qualification is awarded by the United States of America, a Medium of Instruction Letter to say it was taught solely in English would not be required.

  48. Hello,
I will be applying for a Tier 2 general visa. I have an Indian passport and a PhD from Australia. I had applied for the UK NARIC ELA and they have said that I do not need it as it is from Australia. But I will like to know, if I need a “Statement of Comparability” to prove that my Australian PhD is equivalent to UK PhD? Kindly advise. Thanks.

    1. Hello,

      Thank you for the message.

The Visas and Nationality Service costs £125 + VAT (£150) and is a 10 Working Day turnaround. These statements confirm your Academic Qualification Level (AQUALS) and/or English Language Proficiency (ELPS) – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route. If your qualification is awarded by a majority English speaking country, UK NARIC would not need to comment on the English level of the award. You may still require the AQUALS to show you have a degree level qualification.

We recommend that you check with the Home Office UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) if you need a statement from UK. NARIC, as we are a separate organisation from the Home Office we are unable to advise on requirements for the visa application process. 49. Hi, I want to apply for the service of Statement of Comparability, my certificate and final transcript are in Greek and I have a certified translation of both documents, Do I need also add an Apostille certificate in my certificate and final transcript?

    1. Hi Georgia,
      Thank you for your message.
A Statement of Comparability will provide a comparability of your overseas qualifications to the level in which they sit on the UK Framework.
The documentation required in order to assess your qualifications is a photocopy of your final certificate and transcripts of results for each of the qualifications submitted.
We require all documentation in the original language as well as Certified English translations.
Once you submit your documents our specialists will check them and advise if anything further is required to be able to process your application.
Please see the following page for more information on how to apply: https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/Statement%20of%20Comparability.aspx

  52. Hi
I will apply for spouse visa. I have completed Bachelor and Masters in English and my department was English. For spouse visa do I need Statement of comparability or English Language Assessment certificate? or Both ?

    1. Hi Farhana
      Thank you for the message.
The Visas and Nationality statement is the designated service supporting individuals applying for UK visas or for settlement in the UK, provided by UK NARIC on behalf of the Home Office.
Please visit our website and Take the Red Route for Visas and Nationality to apply for this service. https://www.naric.org.uk/visas%20and%20nationality/Default.aspx

  53. Hi

I will apply for UK Tier 2 General VISA. I’ve Bachelor of Engineering Degree in English and i’m carrying my degree and mark sheets of every semester. My concern is :

    1. How can you help me in Secured English Language Test requirement for my VISA?
    2. Do i need anything else apart from Degree and Mark sheets ?

    Please suggest.

    1. Hi Abhishek
      Thank you for the message.

If your degree was taught in English then UK NARIC can provide The Visas and Nationality Service. This service confirms your Academic Qualification Level and English Language Proficiency – as appropriate for your personal Visa requirements.
To meet the requirements for UK NARIC to be able to provide this service you need to provide the following documents:
      • Final Certificate/Degree
      • Full Academic Mark Sheets for each year of study
      • A Medium of Instruction Letter from your Institution confirming it was taught solely in English

If your degree wasn’t taught in English then you can apply for a Statement of Comparability from UK NARIC and you may wish to sit an IELTS test to prove your English language ability.

      Statement of Comparability: https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/Statement%20of%20Comparability.aspx

  54. Hi..

Why does the visa and nationality service which provides a combined certificate – the comparability and English language assessment is more costly than the total of these two certificates applied separately. I was wondering does this have any other information which is provided for visa or immigration purposes?

    Thanks
    Indira

    1. Hi Indira
      Thanks for your comment.
The Visas and Nationality service is a service we provide on behalf of the Home Office and is guaranteed to be accepted by them for proof of academic comparabilty and English language assessment. It also has a quicker turnaround time than the standard statements as we know Visa applications are time sensitive.
It doesnt have any other information, but it is presented differently (in line with Home Office requirements) and will be appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route.
      kind regards,
      UK NARIC

  55. Hi, I have two degrees Master of Computer Application (MCA) in English medium and Bachelor degree in Hindi medium, I am applying for UK visa and so applying for academic comparability and English language assessments on Naric using online service. My question is:
    – Will it be sufficient to provide only MCA degree and transcripts with university letter to confirm the medium of English for English assessment in Naric as the medium of Bachelor degree was not in English?
(I could not get the letter of medium for Bachelors degree which was in Hindi, is letter of the medium really required for non-English medium degrees?)

    1. Hi Abhijeet
      Thanks for your comment.
Yes, we can assess your MCA for English language ability. You may wish to upload the degree certificate and transcripts for bachelor degree as well though because sometimes when we assess Masters qualifications we need to see proof of the degree that was completeted beforehand. You don’t need to get a Medium of instruction for the bachelors as it was studied in Hindi, you are correct.
      I hope this heps,

  56. HI,
I am going to apply for the tier 2 general visa although I was already in UK for three years on tier2 general visa but I left so now I am applying form outside. Before I neither IELET nor UK NARIC for the English Language requirements . I only gave them a copy of my master degree and it was fine. however I have realized now rules have been change. I am taking the UK NARIC service and I have selected the option VISA and nationality and now the next option is to upload the degree. SO I was wondering will it automatically give me the right certificate which I need for the visa or at the end I get to choose it.

The other thing I will take 48 hours fast trackservice so Does UK NARIC provide a soft copy?
Can I give someone’s address in UK and I can use the scan copy for my visa application or do I need original one?

Many thanks and looking forward for your reply

    1. Hi Xiaoxiao
      Thanks for your comment
Yes it will automatically give you what you need. You can send us a message on the online portal of your account to request a soft copy and add a UK address. I would recommend contacting the Home Office to ask whether they accept scanned copies as we cannot advise you on that.
      I hope this helps,
      UK NARIC

      1. Hi

Thanks for your reply. I have one more questions regarding qualification section.
For example, I want to add my Bachelor’s degree which I have done my B.Sc. from 2002 to 2005

        years of award 2008
        Duration of award (years): 3
        and
Duration of award (months): This one I don’t understand because my degree was for the whole three years and here it’s select the duration but number starts from 1 to 11, not from 0. Since my course was for three years so I don’t know what to do here.

Language of the course: there are two options Hindi and others. Since my all degrees were taught in English so I have chosen others. Is it correct?

Could you please clarify these two points?

I send one message before also via my UK NARIC account but the reply is so slow it says we will reply in 5 working days. That the reason I am writing here.

        Many thanks,

      2. Hi Xiaoxiao
The duration in months section is for people who have completed a course less than a year long. As your course was 3 years, you can leave this blank. The language can be left as ‘other’, but this is not crucial to your assessment, as long as you have the correct Medium of Instruction document to show it was taught in English language.
Also, while we appreciate that sometimes responses on social media are quicker, the time frame for responses cannot be guaranteed. Also, because we do not know the specific details of your account, the advice we give is generalised. For this reason it is always best to message us via the portal online as you will get the most helpful responses in a guaranteed time frame.
        I hope this helps,

  57. i was applying for spouse visa and used visa and immigration service of uknaric but after applying to home office they are asking me for the naric certificates but uknaric doesnt provide certificate in visa and immigration service so i think it is expensive and also not useful i think either they add this service in certificate section as well or we should take seperate sevices and not use visa and immigration sevice so that we can request for naric certificate as well in additional service to provide home office i am very upset now adays i dont know what to do

    1. Hi
I’m very sorry it seems you have been misinformed. We are investigating this now with the Home Office and will let you know why you were given this information. Thank you for your patience, we will get back to you as soon as we know more.
      Thank you
      UK NARIC

    2. Hi
We have contacted the Home Office and as far as we understand they do accept the Visas & Nationality service to demonstrate qualification level and English language proficiency. We would advise you to contact the Home Office again, so they can confirm this with you.
      I hope this helps,
      UK NARIC

  58. Hello,
Below are the two things that the Home Office is asking for in regards to the English language-
    1. NARIC letter that confirms the qualification meets or exceeds the recognised standard of a Bachelor’s or Masters degree or PhD in the UK
    2. The degree certificate for XYZ to prove the level of English language required.
AQUALS & ELPS are the two things that I received from NARIC.
Do these two certificates fulfil those two points?
What made me ask this question is the word Degree certificate.
Do I have to send my original certificate from back home along with AQUALS & ELPS from UK NARIC?

    1. Dear Alu,

      Thank you for your comment.

The Visas and Nationality service will look to provide the Academic Qualification Level Statement and English Language Proficiency Statement (AQUALS and ELPS) both of these are usually required by the Home Office to show evidence of English Language Knowledge.

To make the application you need to register an account online through our website. We do not require the original documents to be posted to us, only scanned copies or photographs of the documents uploaded to the website.

More information about this service can be found here: https://www.naric.org.uk/Qualifications/VAN/Default.aspx

      I hope that this helps.

  59. Hi

In a past I have received the UK Naric Statement of Comparability for my back home degrees and awarded my masters as British Bachelor degree. I believe the new name of this statement is AQUALS?

Further I have got my ILR by submitting the UKNaric Statement and the Letter from my University confirming the course were taught in English, do I still need ELPS for naturalisation?

    Regards
    SH

    1. Hi Sho, thank you for your comment. It is our understanding that the Home Office require both the Academic Qualification Level Statement and the English Language Proficiency Statement to show evidence of Knowledge of English. These two documents are only provided as part of our Visas and Nationality service (English Proficiency) Please find details about this here: https://www.naric.org.uk/Qualifications/VAN/Default.aspx
      Kind regards,
      UK NARIC

  61. Hello

If I have a Certificate from Ireland (English is the first language), and it is a membership and what they need to approve is the level of English.
There is a letter from the university indicating the language of the tests and there is a published syllabus, but there are no transcripts for such kind of memberships.

Is that something you can use to assess the English level equivalent to B2?

    1. Dear Mohamed,
      Thank you for your message.
Our Visas and Nationality service can only look to comment on university degree awards, we are not able to consider professional membership awards.
      Kind regards,
      UK NARIC
