How a UK NARIC English Language Assessment can help

Update March 2021 – the English Language Assessment service discussed in this blog post is no longer available. If you need to evidence your English language proficiency for UK Home Office visa or settlement purposes, then a suitable service would be our Visas and Nationality service.

Please note that since this article has been published immigration guidance has changed. Please see our post UK NARIC’s Visas and Nationality Service launches on 6 April which contains more up-to-date information. Also, as of 6 April 2017, UK NARIC statements can be used to evidence English levels A1, A2, B1, and B2, in addition to C1.

Language is the main entity that separates man from the apes and other animals.

(Henry Morris, Ph.D, The Mystery of Human Language)

In our last blog we looked at how English language is used in the UK immigration system.  For migrants, being able to demonstrate that they have the necessary proficiency in English is fundamental to them being able to come to the UK to work of study.

It has been said that English is the most important language in the world; it is the language most used on the internet (although use of Chinese is growing) and is recognised as the language of communications, science, information technology, business, seafaring, aviation, entertainment, radio and diplomacy.

In terms of the UK immigration system, the Home Office place a great deal of significance in being able to speak and understand English.  They have identified three ways migrants can demonstrate their proficiency:*

  • They are a national of a majority English speaking country, or*
  • They have passed an English language test, at or above the level for the PBS tier in which they are applying, which has been approved by the Home Office, or*
  • They hold a degree that was:
    • taught in English, and
    • is equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree or above.*

The first two options are fairly cut and dried; migrants either fulfil these or they don’t, but what about the last one?

To meet this purpose, UK NARIC have developed an assessment that can indicate an individual’s proficiency in English.  Visit our website for more information about this service.

How the Assessment helps

The English Language Assessment helps migrants prove that they meet the Home Office’s English requirements.  In essence it confirms the level of a qualification and that it must have been taught in English, with the sole exception of foreign language modules.  The methodology underpinning the Assessment means that an individual’s proficiency can be compared to C1 on the CEFR scale; meaning that it can be used to support applications to Tiers 1 & 2 of the Points Based System.*

What needs to be sent?

In order to make an assessment we need the following information:

  • a covering letter with your contact details and stating the purpose of your enquiry
  • a photocopy of your English test certificate(s) OR evidence of the medium of instruction of your study
  • a photocopy of your final certificate and course transcripts
  • a photocopy of a certified translation in English if necessary
  • payment for the service (!)
  • a self-addressed envelope with correct postage paid if the letter is for a UK address (if the postal address is outside the UK you do not need to provide postage)

How quick is the assessment?

We aim to get the assessment completed within 15 working days, once we have received all the appropriate documentation, but if there is a need to research the qualification / institution it might take longer.

If you have any further questions about the service please get in touch!

Please check the Home Office website to ensure that you have the most up-to-date information.*

  4. Hi,

I am keen to apply for a UK tier 1 visa (HSMP). I have a few questions in regard with the English Langiage requirements and NARIC assessment.

    1. I have graduated with a Msc degree” The Robert Gordons University”, Aberdeen, Scotland in 2002. This university is also listed in the tier 1 visa points based calculator. Shoold i now still have to get a NARIC assessment done for my 3 year Bachelor’s degree which was pursued from India or should my UK Masters degree be sufficient to prove i have a degree valid enough at the British education levels.

    2. I have always been taught in english back in india, then i have a Masters degree from the UK like explained above (taught in english), should i have to prove my English language requirement with anything else, i hope my degree and transcripts from my uni should do the job

    Experts please suggest.

    Regards,
    Prit

    1. Dear Prit

      Thank you for your email.

UK NARIC is the National Agency responsible for providing information and advice about vocational, academic and professional skills and qualifications from all over the world. We provide information about the equivalency of qualifications and skills from overseas to the UK’s national qualifications frameworks.

Here at UK NARIC we are only able to vouch for the standing of awarding bodies provided they have accreditation / recognition by the relevant authorities in the country of origin. With regard to UK academic qualifications, UK NARIC can comment on postgraduate diplomas / certificates awarded by UK listed bodies only. Any other qualifications, provided they are referenced against the National Qualifications Framework, should be automatically recognised in the UK, and cannot be used for an English language assessment as the UK is classed as an English exempt country, as English is our 1st language.

You may wish to seek clarification from the Home office as to whether your Masters award can be submitted to support your via application.

      Kind regards,

      UK NARIC

  5. I am from Pakistan , i have done B.Com and MBA(finance) from Pakistan. Medium of instruction in both of my degrees was english if I got an assessment of english lenguage proficiency from UK NARIK can I use this to apply for UK study visa instead of other tests like IELTS or TOEFL ?

  6. Hi, I am applying a tier1(entrepreuner) visa which requires an C1 level of English. I have a postgraduate diploma awarded by a UK university. Can I send you the qulification to assess whether it meets the standard of C1?

    Kind regards

    1. Hi, my situation is somewhat similar to yours, though bit different. Don’t know this is the proper forum to ask this. I’m from Sri Lanka and holds a Master of Law, taught degree, from Colombo University, Sri Lanka, conducted in English. I want to assess it to show my level of English, C1 or higher. I want this to show it to Solicitor Regulation Authority. Can somebody from UK NARIC please help me. Thanks so much in advance.

      1. Hi, in order to assess a qualification for an ELA it needs to be comparable to the British Bachelor standard; the qualification you mention here is higher than that so we would not be able to use it to assess your English Language proficiency. If you have a Sri Lankan bachelor qualification you could use that! If you need any further information please call us on 0044 (0)871 330 7033.

  7. Hi I am a Bachelor of Commerce from University of Mumbai. April 1997 is my year of passing. I have my original degree, marksheet and passing certificate

I will be applying for a spouse visa as I am getting married to a British National.

As per the list of documents required for the English language assessment.

you need a photocopy of your English test certificate(s) OR evidence of the medium of instruction of your study.

I dont have either, will this be necessary of can I just send my degree, with marksheet and passing certificate.

    You help is highly appreciated.

    Many thanks

      Thanks for getting in touch.

The best way to proceed is to apply for an English Language Assessment and to make sure you include your degree certificate and transcripts. We should be able to process the application and use the information we have on record to make an assessment. More information about the English Language Assessment can be found on the UK NARIC website http://www.ecctis.co.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/English%20Language%20Assessment.aspx

      Hope this helps.

  8. Hi

I am applying for visa extension as dependent of settled person in the UK.

I recently got letter from UK NARIC confirming “the level of English language for my degree course is considered to meet the requirements of CEFR level C1.”

Can you please confirm if the above “English Language assessment” covers both points (1&2) of the UKBA’s 3rd option below:

“They hold a degree that was:
    1) taught in English, and
    2) is equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree or above.”

Do I also need to request “statement of comparability” letter to fulfill above requirement?

    Please help.

    Regards
    Mandeep

    1. Hi Mandeep

The English Lanaguage Assessment confirms that the medium of instruction for the qualification was English. Our methodology is based on the fact that we can only provide this service to qualifications that are considered to be Bachelor level.

If you want to be completely explicit about the level of your qualification we would suggest that you get a Statement of Comparability to confirm the level.

      Hope this helps.

    1. Hi, you should apply for a Statement of Comparability and an English Language Assessment. The ELA would depend on whether we consider your degree to be comparable to the British Bachelor degree standard. It would probably be best to give us a call on +44 (0)871 330 7033 and we could verbally confirm the level of your qualification. This would then let you be able to decide as to whether you could apply for an ELA. Hope this helps.

    2. HI marryam i also want to apply for UK naric english language assessment..I have done bachelor from COMSATS lahore..Can you tell me does comsats degree is sufficeint to get UK naric english language assessment …??

      1. Hi Usman,

Unfortunately we are unable to comment on specific awards in a public forum such as this. To see if your award meets a C1 level of English proficiency as part of the English Language Assessment please follow the link for how to apply. http://bit.ly/VDVmmB

        I hope this helps.

  10. Hi – I’m from the UK living in Chile and am looking to return to the UK with my partner and son. I have a question about the assessment of the English-language requirement. She is a university professor here, and Chilean citizen with a Science PhD from Germany (undertaken in an English-speaking institute). The thesis was written in English (we can send a copy if required) and she regularly publishes/teaches/presents in English. So, she has a higher degree that was undertaken and written up in English – however there was no taught component, as it was a research degree, and we wonder if this will satisfy the BA?

What are your feelings on whether she is likely to fulfil the language requirement for a partner/spouse UK visa with a German PhD thesis written in English? Obviously, she can do the tests, but we’d prefer not to have to face the cost of additional tests etc. if possible. I appreciate that you cannot give specifics, but I’m sure she is not the first to be in this situation, i.e. with a PhD undertaken in English in a non-English speaking country.

Any pointers/comments would be very much appreciated.

    1. Hi, this is a tricky one! As far as English Language proficiency is concerned we are only able to assess qualifications that are considered comparable to Bachelor level. This is because we have to be certain that the medium of instruction, teaching and testing is all done in English. With research qualifications this is not possible.

UK BA’s rules highlight that there are three ways of demonstrating one’s proficiency; coming from an English speaking country, achieving the relevant grade in a recognised English Language Test and whether UK NARIC are able to confirm English proficiency through qualifications previously attained. I don’t think that we are going to be able to do this with the qualifications you mention above.

Sorry that this isn’t the answer you were probably looking for, but I hope it clears any confusion about the service.

  11. Dear Sir,
I am going to apply for tier 1 entrepreneur visa and for this purpose I need my qualification to be assessed for ELA.

In your online application form I could not find the right option to click at “purpose of enquiry”
Because I am not going to do some further studies or to get some employment. What option should I select there if my purpose is to start my own business there ?

My qualification is “Master of Business Administration”
from Hamdard University Karachi PAKISTAN where the medium of instruction is english.
Is it enough to have ELA. or should I go for both ELA. and degree compareability ?

    With best regards,

    Latif Sharif

    1. Hi, I would choose “Professional Employment” with regard to the purpose of enquiry. As far as assessing your qualification is concerned it is difficult to comment without seeing all the necessary documentation (eg transcript, certificate etc). It might be best to call us on +44(0)871 330 7033 and discuss whether we would be able to help you.

      Good luck,

      UK NARIC

  12. I just came to England on my spouse settlement visa. I’ve got bachelors of commerce (b.com) degree from punjab university Pakistan in English. I did ielts (general) too as it was my visa requirement. Can I study further here in any university? Or I have to do some preliminaries? Before applying.

    1. Each university or college in the UK makes its own decision about which qualifications they will accept. It is probably best to contact the university / college and see whether you satisfy their entry requirements. A Statement of Comparability could help confirm the level of your qualification (go to http://bit.ly/XrMrXO to find out more).

  13. i came to uk with 2yrs family visit visa i came here to join british army i hv Higher national diploma in banking and finance am from nigeria i do not know d assessment of english laguange i ll aply for pls i need ur reply

  14. i have done BSc in Telecommunication Engineering from Pakistan,am applying for UK spouse visa so which service should i undertake, statement of comparability or English language assessment or both? and i one more thing i want to know, i haven’t received degree yet but have given application for my degree. it will take sometime soo can i apply for UK NARIC with all my semesters transcripts and degree awaited letter from my uni??? plz help me out i want to fax application to naric asap

    1. It really depends what reason you are using for qualifications for. If you want to prove it is Bachelor level then it is the Satement of Comparability that you need to apply for. If you wish to use the qualification to demonstrate proficiency in English Lanaguage then you should apply for an ELA.

As you have not yet recieved your degree we are able to do an assessment but the Statement will have a caveat to say that we haven’t sighted the final degree certificate and for official confirmation. I would suggest that you should find out whether this will satisfy the visa requirements.

  15. Hello Sir,

I am from Pakistan and I have done my Masters in English from an internationally recognized university. I’ll be applying for spouse visa for UK in near future. I have calculated my English language assessment points on official UKBA website and my degree scored 10 points. I would like to know if I still need to apply for an English Language Assessment certificate from NARIC in order to confirm the medium of instruction and level of my degree?
Your response to my query would be highly appreciated.

    Best Regards,

    Amina

  16. I recently applied for an ELA for my MSc. (Zoology) degree which I obtained in Pakistan. I was fairly confident that I would get a confirmation of CEFR level C1 since I have done all the scientific study and research in English. But I received a letter stating the C1 level could not be confirmed but it can be confirmed that the applicant would have at least met the A1 level.

I would like to know would this statement be sufficient to prove my English language ability to the UKBA which requires minimum of A1 level for Further Leave to Remain (Partner category)?

    Thanks

    1. Hi Uzma, it would be best to speak with the UKBA directly about this. However, if you have it in writing from UK NARIC that your award meets A1, and A1 is the requirement, then it will most likely be sufficient. As already mentioned, this decision lies with the UKBA so should be discussed with them really.

  17. Hi, thanks for this interesting link.
I am a moroccan refugee in thé UK with a refugee status. I am considered a home student and I would like to enroll at a university in the UK. I have a BA degree in English Linguistics in 2006 from a Moroccan university. The course was taught in English of course. I would like to make a comparison to my BA certificate through the NARIC and I want to know if the NARIC English Language Assessment could replace the TOEFL or IELTS tests.

    1. The short answer is “yes, it could”: details about this service can be found at http://bit.ly/VDVmmB. In essence, there are two ways to determine whether somebody holds an award that meets CEFR C1- the first is one of the Home Office approved tests (the link is on the page above) and the second is to hold an award considered comparable to the British Bachelor degree standard that was taught in English.

      1. Dear Sir

Do you think that Moroccan Bachelors in English is equivalent to a British one?
        Many thanks.

      2. Hi Red,

Many thanks for getting in touch, whilst we are unable to comment on specific qualifications in an open forum such as this, we are able to provide a comparison for Moroccan awards. While the Statement of Comparability can give you a written document confirming where your awards sits in the UK’s educational framework which can be useful to show employers or educational institutions. If you would like an approximate comparison of your award prior to going ahead with this service this a verbal comparison can be given by our call centre in the majority of cases who can be contacted on t: +44 (0)871 330 7033
        I hope this helps.

  18. Hi,

Regarding the requirement for sending copies of the degree certificate and transcripts when applying for an English Language Assessment, would a copy of the final transcript alone be sufficient? The applicant has successfully completed her Bachelor’s degree but is awaiting graduation so has not yet received her final degree certificate.

    Many thanks.

    1. Ideally, we would receive copies of the final degree certificate, academic transcript and a confirmation letter regarding the medium of instruction. Provided that the transcript shows beyond any doubt that the award is complete (successfully, that is) and the certificate will be conferred in due course, then we may still be able to provide assessment. However, we would have to make it clear that our assessment was based on documents other than the final certificate and we always recommend that wherever possible, the final certificate be presented to admitting institutions / potential employers as official confirmation of award conferral.

      1. Thank you very much for the prompt reply. The UKBA website does mention that they will accept an original academic reference and transcript as evidence of English language ability if the applicant is currently awaiting graduation, so hopefully an English Language Assessment issued on that basis will lso be acceptable to them. I just wanted to make sure UK NARIC will not refuse to issue an assessment altogether if the final certificate is not available.

        Thanks again.

  19. Hi there,,I had recieved my certificate of statement of comparability and according from it my qualifications are comparable to BTEC/SQA HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA(HND) STANDARD/FOUNDATION DEGREE STANDARD which falls on the same level of the NATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS FRAMEWORK as N/SVQ LEVEL 4.
I had emailed most of the schools here in the UK if they will accept my qualifications because I am planning to go to University next year, but most of them are asking for IELTS on top of all my credentials, because english is not my first language,my question is that can I use your NARIC English Language Assesment to replace the IELTS that Universities are asking for ? I am living in UK for 6 years now and awarded my British Citizenship last year.
Hearing a reply from you would be much appreciated…
    Thank you(“,)

    1. Hi, in order for us to be able to issue an ELA the qualifications being considered needs to be Bachelor degree standard, the qualification you mention here is not at that level so can’t be used for the ELA for this reason. IELTS tests are easy to arrange, and are a useful award to hold (although they do expire). There are loads of recognised English tests out there, but IELTS is probably the best known (the following UKBA link shows which ones they recognise: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/applicationforms/new-approved-english-tests.pdf)

  20. Hi, for new rule Knowledge of language and life in the UK for settlement and naturalisation w.e.f 28/10/13, has to have English language qualifications as evidence that an applicant has
met the requirement to hold a B1 level speaking and listening qualification for ILR. But for those who have obtained a degree taught in English will be considered automatically to meet the English language component.

My wife has Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com.) from University of Mumbai (India). Could you please let us know if you have any facility to confirm that my wife’s degree was taught in English (which it was) and at B1 CEFR or higher, or an equivalent level qualification. Which meets the new rule English language qualifications requirement for ILR.

Have seen your English Language Assessment http://www.ecctis.co.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/English%20Language%20Assessment.aspx but on this you have mention this service demonstrate English language proficiency for (Tier 1 and Tier 2) as set out by the Home Office. But I couldn’t see anything specifically mention on your services for individual about this new rule English language qualifications requirement for ILR on your website.

    Could you please advise?

      1. Hi there,
Just wanted to know what was the outcome of your investigation.
Would you be able to compare degree’s to B1 Level?
        Thanks,
        RV

      2. Hi RV, thanks for the query. UK NARIC is only able to assess against CEFR level C1 and the English Language Assessment will not provide information on CEFR levels that are lower or higher. However, if an award is deemed to meet CEFR C1 level, then by inference it will meet B1 as this is a lower level of proficiency. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  21. My wife done LLB law degree from pakistan and want to know what statement should I get in able to apply for her spouse visa..

Should I get statement of compatibility or state of English assessment

    Please advice

  22. Hi there, I have got a post graduate diploma from staffordshire university , can I use this as proof of English , beside I also have a bachelor degree in international Business management from a Asia pacific university awarded by Staffordshire University U.K language of instruction was English, language of assessment was English, and awarding institution was Staffordshire university U.K. i used this as proof of English when i was coming to the U.K in 2012 for my postgraduate study , can use this also as proof english as well to renew my tier 4 general student visa . Thank you waiting for your reply .

    1. unfortunately I’m not sure we can help. An ELA can only be issued if the qualification is comparable to a British Bachelor degree; your PgDip too high.

However, as you have a Bachelor level qualification from a UK university the Home Office may be able to accept it for their English language requirement.

  23. Dear Sir

My Name is Raheel and i live in Lahore,Pakistan. I have plan to submit UK Spouse Visa Application before October 2013. I did MBA (duration 2.5 year) from University of Engineering & Technology Lahore and BS-CS (duration 4 year) from Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad,Pakistan. For UK spouse visa, there is an option of English Test exemption if i get certificate (might be from your-side) that indicates my English level is better than or equivalent to A1 test requirement.

You might be aware that all specialize course are taught in English Language and i studying throughout in English language from School to University level. So can if eligible to apply for English Equivalence Certificate or not? if so how time i would take. Waiting for your response.

    Thanks

    1. UK NARIC’s English Language Assessment provides an assessment and a statement:

to confirm whether an individual’s approved English language test meets the required level of English language proficiency (CEFR level C1)
to confirm whether your degree has been taught in English and meets the required level of English language proficiency (CEFR level C1).

So we should be able to help you.

      Good luck!

  24. Hi, regarding a new rule, Knowledge of language and life in the UK for settlement and naturalisation w.e.f 28/10/13, has to have English language qualifications as evidence that an applicant has
met the requirement to hold a B1 level speaking and listening qualification for ILR. But for those who have obtained a degree taught in English will be considered automatically to meet the English language component.
My wife has Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) from Anna University (India).

Would you be able to confirm that my wife’s degree was taught in English (which it was) and at B1 CEFR or higher, or an equivalent level qualification which meets the new rule English language qualifications requirement for ILR or British citizenship.

Also, my wife has her college transfer certificate which clearly states that, it was given due to course completion. Along with this, she also has the university certificate clearly mentioning that she has completed her bachelor degree.

Will the above mentioned documents be sufficent for English language assessment and to assess if the degree is equivalent to a bachelor degree in UK?

i do not have transcripts or any mark sheets right now. Is this ok for assessment?

Have seen your English Language Assessment http://www.ecctis.co.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/English%20Language%20Assessment.aspx but on this you have mention this service demonstrate English language proficiency for (Tier 1 and Tier 2) as set out by the Home Office. Could you please advise?

    1. The UK NARIC English Language Assessment was devised to help provide an indication of English language proficiency for Tiers 1 and 2 of the PBS. We have spoken to the UK Home Office about whether it could be used to support an application for settlement and naturalisation in the UK and we are awaiting a reply.

We would therefore advise you to check with the Home Office directly (http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/aboutus/contact/enquiries/).

When we have received an update from the Home office we will publish this information.

  25. hi, i completed bachelor degree in Computer science Engineering in Anna University, chennai. I have my provisional certificate and Final certificate issued by Anna university.

I do not have transcripts or consolidated mark sheet with me right now.

If i provide my final certificate, will this be sufficient to provide me with:

    a. English language assessment
    and
    b. Statement of comparability.

Also, if i send the documents and make payment to NARIC, in case you cannot issue either of the assessments , would you refund the money?

    Thanks
    Shylu

    1. Hi Shylu,

Thanks for the query. As there is clear evidence of completion of this award in the form of the final certificate, we would be able to provide both the English Language Assessment and the Statement of Comparability services for you. Even so, should you wish to pursue postgraduate study here in the UK it would be in your interests to get hold of the transcripts if possible.

      Best regards,

      UK NARIC

  26. Hi, If i apply for visa which requires English Language assessment and provide these certificates to homeoffice:

    a. NARIC – English language assessment,
    b. NARIC – Statement of comparability
    c. Degree Final certificate,
    d. Consolidated mark sheet (at the bottom it says medium of instruction: English)

will these be sufficient as evidence or should i also provide, Letter from the degree awarded institution stating that medium of instruction was English?

  27. Hi, What are the below B.E degrees equivalent to , according to NARIC – English language assessment and comparable degree in UK?:

    1. Madras University B.E. Computer science and Engineering
    2. Anna University B.E. Computer science and Engineering

i.e. whether both the degrees above are equivalent to CEFR level C1 and equivalent to Bachelor degree in UK?

  28. Hi,

I have completed my Bachelor of engineering in Madurai kamaraj university, Tamil nadu, India.
I am having Tier one general visa and my husband is on dependant visa.
My husband completed Master of computer science from Bharathidasan university, Tamil nadu, India. Both of our medium of instruction is English.

At the entry clearance on July 2009, we submitted the letter from the institutional bodies(from the University) to prove my english language efficiency.
I have my consolidated mark sheets, Provisional certificate and the above said letter(Medium of instruction) with us.

If we provide these documents to you, will this be sufficient to provide me with:

    a. English language assessment
    and
    b. Statement of comparability.

Does the NARIC certificate is an alternative of an IELTS to prove english language requirement?

  29. Dear Sir/Madam,

i have some queries regarding English Language requirement for Tier 4 student visa – UK. I need your help since i’m confused and i don’t how to start applying for my student visa.

    My queries are:-

1- I hold a British bachelor Degree from Staffordshire -UK, but the course was taught through their partner in Malaysia, the course was all taught in English. Can my British bachelor degree be acceptable as an English qualification for my tier 4 visa?

2- Is it helpful if i provide an official letter from my previous university that the course was taught in English since it’s a British certificate anyway?

    Kindest Regards.

  31. Hi

I am going to apply UK neutralization soon, but they mentioned the below requirement, so could you please let me know what services I need to apply to meet the below requirements in Naric and also remember that I had certificate of the UK NARIC English Language Assessment in 2009, but it won’t state that my degree is not taught in English and it states that ‘the level of english languge for the above degree is considered to meet the requirements of CEFR level C1’? is this single statement should be enough to meet the below requirement intems of Naric perspective?

    Requirement:
■NARIC letter confirming that a degree from an overseas university was taught in the English language and is transferable to British qualifications. ***Please note that the NARIC must confirm that the degree was taught in English

  37. Hi ..
I would like to know I am applying for my post graduation course in university in UK .. and as per university requirement I am preparing for English level test Pearson test or IELTS but If I apply for English assessment to your organisation instead of giving IELTS or Pearson Test.. because my bachelor studies and above studies all in English medium. .

    My question is
is it valid UK Naric equivalent English certificate for getting admission in particular university?
Please reply as soon as possible.
    Thank you

    1. Hi Urvesh, thanks for the query. Really, this is a question best posed to the university: it would be their decision to admit you, so it is worth checking with them directly whether a UK NARIC English Language Assessment of your degree satisfies their entry requirements. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  38. Hello, thanks for this. I would like to get UK citizenship. Coming from an EU non English speaking country I need to prove proficiency. I have an MBA from Open University, will this be OK? (I am not 100% clear if you accept Masters degrees for equivalence and if OU degrees are OK). Or should I take the language test?

      1. Thanks for replying but I am not sure I understand. In order to be able to get UK citizenship I still need to do a language test, despite having a UK masters degree, is that what the summary is? It is a bit odd, but if that is how it is …

  39. Actually I read the booklet properly now. It says:

“You will not be required to show a formal speaking and listening qualification if you have
obtained an academic qualification deemed by UK NARIC to meet the recognised standard
of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or PhD in the United Kingdom and either:
    (i) UK NARIC has confirmed that the qualification was taught or researched in English;
    or
(ii) the qualification was taught or researched in the United Kingdom or a majority
English speaking country as listed below (other than Canada).

I believe point (ii) applies so I guess I just need to include a copy of my degree with the relevant forms.

    Thanks,

    Bart

  40. hi ..

i just received my ILR (BPR) and wish to apply for uk citizenship(naturalisation) after a year from now.
I have a bachelors degree in business studies from nepal tribhuwan university. however i don’t have any evidence of medium of instruction of study.
i have been studying ACCA in the uk for past 3 yrs now.

    my questions,
can i still apply for the english language assessment ?
will UK home office(ukba) recognise my ACCA qualification?

    sunaimi

    1. Hi Smita, thank you for the query. The UK NARIC Statement of Comparability service only compares the overall comparable level of an award to a level within the UK national qualification framework- due to disparities in the mode of study, grading, teaching, assessment systems and content, it is not possible for us to convert grades from one system to another and as such does not form part of the service. The interpretation of grades and determination of degree classifications – where appropriate – is carried out by admitting institutions / employers in the UK in the context of the system in which the award was obtained. This is actually mentioned on the Statement of Comparability page of our website: http://www.ecctis.co.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/Statement%20of%20Comparability.aspx I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  41. I have done bachelors degree in arts from Punjab university of Lahore so want to ask that do i need to do ESOL as I have to apply for uk citizenship.

    1. Hi Wajeeha, thanks for the query. This depends on the duration of your degree, whether it was taught in English….there are several factors we need to consider if we are to provide an English Language Assessment so I’m afraid this isn’t the place for me to help you. If you can call us in the New Year (our phone lines are closed until the 2nd January 2014) on +44 (0)871 330 7033 we should be able to tell you whether you’re degree will be eligible for this service. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  42. Hi, I have certificate of qualification comparability from UK NARIC for my BSc. Chemical engineering degree, which I had received from University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, Pakistan. Now I want ELA certificate. Can I know before I send my application, if my degree meets level C1?

    1. Hi, thanks for the query. Unfortunately we are not able to confirm the outcome of an English Language Assessment prior to carrying out the assessment. Best regards, UK NARIC

    2. Hi Najaf,

Have you got your ELA Certificate?
How much time it has taken?

  43. hi i hv done masters of economics in pakistan from university of karachi. is my degree equivalent to b1 requirement? as i need to apply for citizenship and i hv already passed my life in uk test.

    1. Hi Sahrish, thanks for the query. UK NARIC is only able to comment on whether an academic award gained overseas- taught in English- meets CEFR C1 level. Further details about our English Language Assessment service can be found at http://bit.ly/VDVmmB I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  44. Hi,

I am applying for my naturalization soon and i am quite confused about the english requirements. I have a MBA degree which was taught in the UK (UWIC – Unviversity of Wales and Cardiff instute), i have all the certificate, transcripts to proof that was taught in English and in the UK.

Do I still need to send my certificates to be recognized by UK NARIC?

    Please let me know,

    Camilla

    1. Hi Camilla, thanks for the query. If your award is from the UK, then we would not be able to comment on the level of English as it would be from an ‘English exempt’ country. There is therefore no need to make an application to UK NARIC. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  45. Hi,

I have got an email from NARIC stating that English assessment could not be done on my degree because it is master degree and so is not equivalent to bachelors degree.

I’ve also got a Bachelors degree in commerce from Mumbai University and have got academic transcript and a degree certificate as an evidence. However, on the certificate it is not explicitly stated that the medium was English language though the degree was taught and passed in English language.

Based on these records, could I get English assessment done?

    Many thanks for the help.

    Regards,
    Tejas

    1. Hi Tejas, thanks for the query. Ideally we’d need to see evidence in the form of a confirmatory letter from the institution confirming the medium of instruction- if this is not something you can get hold of you may wish to email us at info@naric.org.uk and we can discuss this further. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  46. Hi Team,

I have a Masters’s degree from University of Bedfordshire it it sufficient for B1CEFR for settlement visa.

    Thank you,
    Sahar

    1. Hi Sahar, thanks for the query. As your award is from the UK, it would be ‘English exempt’ so we wouldn’t be able to provide (nor do you need) our English Language Assessment service. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  47. Got ILR granted yesterday using one day service which only took 1.5 hours for including myself and my wife and 11 months old baby. I used NARIC compatibility letter(issued 2008) and English language assessment with C1 (issued Dec 2013) for my BSc. In my personal experience I can suggest English language assessment from NARIC Home office will accept.
    Thank you.

  48. Hi I have completed my Bachelors degree ( English Honours) and Post graduate diploma degree in business management both from India I have recently obtained my Statement of Comparability from UK NARIC which says that both my degrees are comparable to British Postgraduate Diploma standard and British Bachelors degree standard .Do I still need ELA for UK settlement visa.

  49. Hi, I am from india and need to apply for ILR. Currently i am in UK on work permit . I did Engineering for Assam University India. Can I use this NARIC to confirm my English Language ability and B1 level , equivalent to ESOL Level3.

    1. Hi Suresh, thanks for the query. If you hold a Bachelor of Engineering from Assam University, together with evidence of the medium of instruction, then we will be able to provide you with an English Language Assessment. We recommend that you contact the Home Office directly for details about their specific requirements. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  50. Hi,

I’m applying for my Citizenship and I have got my Bachelor and Masters degree along with the letter from University stating the medium of study is in English. I would like to get this assessed with UK NARIC (for not appearing for English language test). I understand that I need to apply for “English Language Assessment”.

Can I fill in Online Application form and attach while sending application in post (http://ecctis.co.uk/naric/Individuals/Application/Default.aspx)?

If yes, what should I select for “Purpose of Enquiry” and “Field of Interest” ?

    Thanks,

    1. Hi Dingolfy, thanks for the query. In order to apply for the ELA service, you would need to start the process by filling in the relevant fields on the website. Once this is done, you would need to forward photocopies (not originals) by post to us, together with the reference number you will be given, to our address here in Cheltenham. All the details you need regarding the process will be made clear step by step. As for the purpose of enquiry and field of interest, this is entirely up to you: this information is for our use to enable us to provide a better service to our customers; it won’t affect your application at all. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  51. Hello , I have 3 years Bachelor Of Science (Hons in Physics) from University Of Calcutta .I got certificate from University stating that degree taught in English.
If I send copy of marksheet , certifictae and the letter from university that state that degree taught in Engllish for my English Language Assessment, will it meet CEFR-C1 level?

  52. Hello, I’m applying for my naturalisation and I have got my Bachelor degree from a Nigerian University. I would like to get this assessed with UK NARIC but getting a transcript is almost impossible. I Would like to find out if I can send only my Bachelors degree certificate for the statement of comparability assessment because it is extremely difficult to get a transcript from most universities in Nigeria.

    Regards,
    Fuad.

    1. Hi Fuad, thanks for the query. Ideally, wherever possible, we ask for copies of both the final certificate and the academic transcript. However, we appreciate that in some situations, this is not possible so assessment can be based on the final certificate alone (similarly, in the case of the certificate being unavailable, provided there is unequivocal evidence of successful completion within the transcript, then assessment is possible). I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  53. Dear Sir,

I have completed my HDA (Higher Diploma in Accounting) it was certificated by Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA)…In Pakistan HEC (Higher Education Commission) did not recognise SQA and HDA as equivalent to Bachelors of Commerce (B.COM) graduation

My Certificate is at SCQF Level 9..which is bachelors level and graduation…I want UK NARIC to confirm my qualification level and status.

I would apply online and will pay the fees as well..

I need your kind help in this regard for statement of comparability

    1. Hi Waqar, thanks for the query. As your award is from the UK, we are unable to provide assistance I’m afraid. I would recommend that you contact the SQA directly for assistance. Sorry I cannot be of more help to you. Best regards, UK NARIC

  54. I’m applying to uk citizenship I’ve done English at school also at college back home. Also I’ve done btec diploma here in uk , got foundation degree achieved also in uk and now I’m at metropolitan university doing law. Do I still need to do a English test?

    1. Hi AJ, thanks for the query. Specific queries regarding UK citizenship would be best directed to the Home Office- we are a separate organisation that deals with the qualification assessment side of the process. I suggest you contact the Home Office for guidance on this point. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  55. Hello Sir,

I am from India and planning to apply for Tier-2 (General) visa. I need 10 points for my English proficiency. I have done my MBA from MITS and my university is listed in Home office site and showing me 10 points in home office site. But to be safer side I want to get a confirmation from NARIC also, I have gone through the fee structure (around 55 GBP). So my queries are –
    1) Can I apply from India by sending soft copies of my MBA degree and letter from University?
    2) How much time will it take to get letter from NARIC?
    3) Do I need a hard copy of NARIC letter for Tier-2 (General) processing or will a soft copy work for Visa processing?

    Thanks in advance,
    Arun

    1. Hi Arun,

Thanks for the query. In answer to your questions: 1) Yes you can send copies from India, however an Indian MBA is considered to be above the British Bachelor degree standard so we wouldn’t be able to base an assessment on this award. We would only be able to prove the English Language Assessment for your undergraduate degree (assuming it was taught in English and is suitable to do so). 2) Our assessments take between 10 to 15 working days. You would need to factor in delivery time which would depend upon the delivery service you choose. 3) We only provide hard copies; no soft copies are sent out to applicants. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

      1. Thanks for your comment.

As I have checked the MBA degree is showing 10 points in home office site, by any chance do you have any idea if we can directly use the MBA degree which was taught in English as we have the proof letter also from the university. OR is it mandatory to get a letter from NARIC??

        Thanks,
        Arun

      2. Unfortunately we can not answer questions about what the Home Office will accept. You’ll need to contact them directly to find out the answer.

        Good luck, UK NARIC

  56. Dear Admins @ UK NARIC
One of the very unhelpful thing you are doing to assess qualifications only for the level C1, no higher no lower level. Which makes going for this option not only unreasonable and also non-professional. Now if I apply for an English assessment for my MA English in Linguistics and Literature from Pakistan, what if you don’t assess my degree to C1 level? What do I get in return, “The applicant does not meet the requirement of CEFR C1 Level”, even though if my degree equals to C2 level. With the above statement, my money, time and effort is totally wasted.

Especially when somebody wants to apply for UK Immigration and requires B1, he gets the above statement on his certificate, “The applicant does not meet the requirements for C1”.

So please don’t waste a lot of potential customers and do something about it. Thank you.

    1. Hi Muhammad, thanks for the feedback which we’re always grateful to receive. At present we are investigating how we can develop a methodology for other CEFR levels besides C1. Please note that where an individual’s degree is not considered to meet the level of proficiency expressed for CEFR C1, there is always the option of taking one of the Home Office approved English language tests to meet this requirement. Thanks once again for your comments. With best regards, UK NARIC

  57. Dear sir/madam

I am writing you about the IELTS, I found an employer that will sponsor me as a nurse. I am currently living here in Italy as a legal resident but I still have a Philippine passport and a Filipino citizenship.  My question is, do I still need to take IELTS even though i speak, write and understand english pretty good? And also in my country, my nursing degree was taught in english and my diploma, t.o.r and all my documents was issued in english language. I have two degrees, Associate Degree of Surgical Technologist which I took it in United States and work over there for few years after I graduated. The other one is Bachelors of Science in Nursing and I took it in my home country. Do I still need to take the IELTS? Is there any other option we can do in order for me not to take the exam anymore so I can register in NMC asap? Or maybe I only need to pass all of my documents such as diplomas or any sort of documents that is been issued in English from my country? And or maybe I should pass my Associate Degree as a Surgical Technologist that been issued in United States and my certification of my employment that will provide a proof that I am eligible or able to read, listen, write, speak and understand English?
Right now I only wanted to know if my degree as a Surgical Technologist (same as ODP in U.K) will be counted as a proof of my english will be counted for your assessment to gain my 10 points for applying in immigration. If it is possible that it wil be, I will be happy to send you my diploma and transcript to be assessed by UKNARIC.. I am desperately wanted to go to U.K asap so I can start a better life. I restricted by belt right now for expenses and if you think that my degree as a SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST will gain a 100% 10 points for the immigration process, I will be happy to send all the docs you need.. Can you please help me sir/ma’am? I am so much in stress and desperation.

           Thank you and more power.

    1. Hi Mark, thanks for the query. As your Associate Degree is from the US, it cannot be used for the purpose of an English Language Assessment as the US is an English exempt country. In this instance, it might be best to seek advice from the Home Office directly as we are not able to advise individuals on the visa application process. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  58. Hi, I’m from India and did my graduation from University of Delhi. I’m applying for ILR as a dependent and not sure if the level of my degree is acceptable or not. I did Political science(Hons), where English was one of my subject in 1st year which I cleared, so would that be acceptable for the level of English required by Home Office and would you guys be able to certified it?

  59. I am a Qualified Teacher in the UK and I have passed my English and Maths test before getting Qualified Teacher Status.I did IELTs 4 years ago before getting my Tier 2.I got Level 7 Diploma in Business Administration here in the UK 5 years ago.I got an overseas degree in Social Sciences which is equivalent to UK Ordinary Degree by UKNARIC.I am going to apply for my ILR on 10 years basis. My question is that do I still have to do English Language Test to apply for ILR in the UK? Please advise! Regards Qazi

    1. Hi Qazi, thanks for the query. This is a question best posed to the Home Office directly, as we are a separate agency and not able to advise on specific visa requirements. It is possible that your IELTS will not be accepted, as they usually only have a two year shelf life, and if this is the case then using your Bachelor degree- assuming it was taught in English- may be an option open to you. However, as already mentioned, it would be best to check with the HO. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

    2. Hello, You do not need any English assessment whatsoever. For ILR on Long residence basis, all you need is previous old passport since you first entered in the UK and that’s it.

      1. Hi Ray, thanks for your comments. This is perhaps something you’d need to clarify with the Home Office directly- we are not involved in policy as we’re an entirely separate organisation. Best regards, UK NARIC

      2. Mr. Ray is it for me ? If yes!! I would like to say thanks and according to my information they do need the passports with valid visas, life for the UK test certificate and English test certificate. Please advise if you can. regards

  60. thank you so much.I wish if UKBA had a blog like this that little queries could be addressed with out calling them and waiting for a long time. Thanks again

  61. Hello

I have a BSc (Hons) degree from Kinnaird College for Women in Pakistan. My University is recognised by HEC in Pakistan and the medium of instructions for my course was English. I also had compulsory modules in English during my first year. I’m thinking of applying for an English Language Assessment from UK NARIC.

I appreciate that you may not be able to confirm anything but can you please provide an indication if you recognise my University and if I provide the necessary document am I likely to meet the requirement of CEFR Level C1.

    Many thanks

  62. Hello UK NARIC,

I am due to apply for my British citizenship in June. However one of the requirement is to provide proof of language proficiency. As per GOV.UK it says
You can prove it by having either:

    1) an English qualification at B1 level
    2) a degree taught or researched in English

I have a Masters Degree from Cranfield University( UK) for Clinical Research, but did this is INDIA. Do I still have to prove with a B1 level? Will a letter from the University would be enough prove the same?

    Please confirm?

    1. Hi Leena,

      Thank you for your post,

UK NARIC can provide confirmation of whether an overseas qualifications that is equivalent to a UK Bachelors award meets a C1 level in the Common European Framework, which would exceed the B1 requirement specified, as part of the “English Language Assessment”.

The “Statement of Comparability” service could also be used to confirm whether or not a national qualification studied overseas is confirmed at bachelors level.

However, in your case your degree appears to have been issued by a UK institute making it a UK award, as such your qualification has been awarded in a country that is exempt from the English language requirements set out by the Home Office.

Qualifications from majority English speaking countries would not require an English Language Assessment. Instead it would be recommended that you submit a copy of your qualification directly to the Home Office to support your visa application.

Please note that UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and that we are unable to advise on the exact requirements for the visa application process and for any specific enquiries regarding the requirements for the Home Office you may wish to contact them directly on 0870 606 7766 or at their website https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration

I hope this information is of assistance.

  63. Hello,
I want to send my documents to NARIC UK for Engish Language Assessment, as I`m going to apply for a spouse visa, and I need to meet Home Office English Language Requirement. I have a Ukrainian Specialist`s Diploma, as well as Bachelor`s Degree in English Language Teaching and Phylology. The question is, whether it is enough to send the copies of two translated diplomas together with transcripts, or I also need to send evidence of the medium of instruction of study from a central administration unit / registry. If so, then what is meant by this evidence, can it only be a reference from the department I studied at about the subjects, taught in English, or should it be from the central unit of university? And also,is it necessary to send both diplomas and transcripts, or only Bachelor/Specialst one?

    Thank You for your reply,

    Kind Regards,
    Anna

    1. Hello Anna

      Thanks for your post.

UK NARIC’s “English Language Assessment” can be provided for an overseas qualification where it has been taught 100% in English and is equivalent to a UK Bachelor award. So on this basis we could certainly look into both of these qualifications as part of this service.

For the “English Language Assessment” we would need to see copies of both the final certificates & transcripts for these awards. Additionally, for Ukrainian awards we will need confirmation that the courses were taught entirely in English, this should be issued directly from the university and signed by a member of the faculty such as the registrar, an example of this letter is available on the NARIC website (http://naric.org.uk.cheltenham.ecctis.co.uk/naric/Individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/documents/TechUniCertification_in.pdf).

Please be aware that as it is unusual for a qualification to be taught entirely in English in Ukraine, as such we are unlikely to hold existing information on file for these awards and these awards may have to be dealt with on a research basis. Whilst UK NARIC endeavour to complete an enquiry within three weeks (15 working days) of receipt of an application, with research cases, this period is not guaranteed and this timeframe will almost always be exceeded. So be aware this may be a factor for you to consider, if you are working to a particular timescale.

I hope this information helps. Further details on how to apply for the “English Language Assessment” can be found on the UK NARIC website (https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/English%20Language%20Assessment.aspx).

  64. Hi I am going to be completed 5 years in April.2015. I am having Tier-1 general visa.

I taught master degree in English mediam from M.S Univetsity of baroda, Gujarat ,India .

But is it require English language test for my leave to remain in uk. Because I heard from someone that your university is blacklisted for ukba.so you have to give English language test.
    So is it true?
    Please help me regarding this…

    Thanks,
    Jigar Sharma

    1. Hi Jigarkumar,

      Thank you for your Post.

UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and so we are unable to advise on the requirements for a Visa application.

We would recommend you contact the Home Office directly for information on this matter. Their website is https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration and their telephone number is 0870 606 7766.

UK NARIC provide a number of services that can be used to support an application if these are required. These include the “Statement of Comparability” if an academic equivalence of your award is required. Additionally the “English Language Assessment“ is available where an award is equivalent to a UK Bachelors award and is taught entirely in English, this will provide an assessment of the award to see if it meets a CEFR level C1 for English proficiency.

Details of UK NARIC’s services including how to apply can be found here: http://bit.ly/1mIqbZg

I hope this information is of assistance to you.

  65. Hi,

I am planning to apply for Tier 2 General Visa under Point Based System and I am from India. I have a BTech Computer Engineering Degree from Cochin University of Science and Technology. My university & Engineering course is listed in Point Based Calculator list in UKBA website.

I would like to go for English Language Assessment & Statement of Comparability services.

    My questions are:

    1. Do I need to submit a letter from the University stating that medium of instruction was English if I apply for ‘English Language Assessment’?

    2. My degree certificate & Final Mark list are not enough to assess me in ‘English Language Assessment’ service?

    Thanks,
    Jasmy

  66. Hi,
I am interested in applying for a british passport, I have done btec national diploma in IT practitioners Level 3 in 2009 in uk and after that applied for graduation in 2010 but dropped it after an year because of personal reasons. My question is that do i still need to go through B1 test or my diploma comes under the English qualification at B1 level needed.
    Thanks

    1. Dear Abeer,

      Thank you for your Post.

UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and that we are unable to advise on the requirements for a British passport.

We would recommend you contact the Home Office directly for information on this matter. Their website is https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration and their telephone number is 0870 606 7766.

Please note we would not comment on UK awards and would normally only be involved in helping to provide evidence that an overseas qualification meets a specified academic level or where it is equivalent to a UK Bachelors award and taught in English, whether this meets a CEFR level C1 for English proficiency

I hope this information is of assistance to you.

    2. Beware all Pakistani degree holders, if you do not get any points for your degree on the PBS calculator on the Home Office website, I can guarantee that UK NARIC will not issue you with an English Language Assessment that certifies that your degree meets the level of CEFR C1. You might as well give your £55 in charity.

I provided all the evidence asked by them, which included a letter from my institution confirming English was the medium of instructions for my degree, my transcript which showed all the subjects I studied as part of my course (including English language core modules), my original degree and a very well written cover letter. They took 1 month and then sent me a letter saying that “there is not enough evidence to show that my degree meets the CEFR level C1 requirements”.

You all will be better off taking one of the approved English language tests rather than wasting your time, money and effort with UK NARIC.

      1. Hi Amna,

        Thanks for your post.

The English Language Assessment service is an assessment of the qualification, this means that even where the required documentation is provided to investigate the award, whether or not a qualification meets the C1 level for English Proficiency in the Common European Framework can depend on a number of factors relating to the course of study.

Simply, because we were unable to confirm that your course had not meet the C1 level it would be a overstatement to say that all qualifications from Pakistan would not meet this standard.

As you have mentioned though, UK NARIC’s English Language Assessment is simply one of the ways individuals can demonstrate their English Proficiency and where individuals have concerns that the level of their course may not meet the C1 level, an approved English Test is an alternative.

If you are personally dissatisfied with the service you have received from UK NARIC we can always look into this through the appropriate channels. Details on our appeals and complaints process can be found here: http://bit.ly/1nUZD4m

      2. Dear Administrator,

        Thank you for your reply.

I completely appreciate that providing you with all the evidence does not necessarily mean that CEFR C1 requirements are automatically met, I am nonetheless very dissatisfied with the outcome of my ELA. My institution is part of the “HEI” or Higher Education Institutes in Pakistan and was in fact set up by the British themselves over a 100 years ago. It is one of the most prestigious Universities in Pakistan for the the course that I studied i.e. Economics.

The medium of instruction throughout the University is English and my degree has been accepted without an equivalency certificate by my previous as well as my current employer.

I’m not an unreasonable person but based on the above facts I could not see a reason why my degree would not meet the requirements of CEFR C1. There are a few institutions in Pakistan that are regarded as being better than my University and therefore the only conclusion I could draw from this (which is of course just a guess) is that if the Home Office PBS calculator does not award points for Enligh language, UK NARIC will not issue the ELA confirming CEFR level C1 is met.

The reason for me posting my comment here was not to deface the services offered by UK NARIC and I apologise if this is how it has come out as, but was for the benefit of other people like me who believe they might easily get the ELA and they should know that it will not be as easy as they may initially think.

Lastly, thank you for providing me with the details of how to raise a formal compliant and I to do so shortly.

        Best regards

        Amna

  67. Hi
I am applying for tier 2 visa and attempted to use point based calculator. However, it accepts qualification obtained until 2013. I have completed my PhD in April 2014 at the University of Salford. I wonder whether I should get any confirmation from UK Naric to provide the UKBA to confirm that I meet the Englsih language requirement as I can not use the point based calculator as it has a limitation.

    Please help.

    Susantha

    1. Hi Susantha,

      Thank you for your post,

UK NARIC would normally provide confirmation on overseas qualifications.

However, in your case your qualification appears to have been issued by a UK institute, as such your qualification has been awarded in a country that is exempt from the English language requirements set out by the Home Office.

Qualifications from majority English speaking countries would not require any confirmation from UK NARIC. Instead it would be recommended that you submit a copy of your qualification directly to the Home Office to support your visa application.

Please note that UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and that we are unable to advise on the exact requirements for the visa application process and for any specific enquiries regarding the requirements for the Home Office you may wish to contact them directly on 0870 606 7766 or at their website http://bit.ly/1iQYdrc

I hope this information is of assistance.

  68. Hi,

Can you please let me know if ‘Fast Track 48hr Service’ is available for both English Language Assessment & Statement of Comparability?

    Thanks.
    Jasmy

    1. Hi Jasmy,

      Thank you for your post.

Unfortunately, we are only able to offer the fast track service for the Statement of Comparability exclusively.

The English Language Assessment would be completed in our standard time frame of 10-15 working days, once all necessary documents & payments have been confirmed as received.

      I hope this helps.

  69. Hello,

I got the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from India and medium of instruction was English and received the certificate from university for the same. This Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree is recognised in Home office PBS calculator but got no points as it is 3 years degree only and home office give points for 4 years degrees. Can you please let me know if this meets the criteria for CEFR level C1 in UK.
In general Indian Bachelor degrees taught in English from universities which are recognized in Home office PBS Calculator but awarded no points on that degree are equivalent to UK Bachelor degrees and CEFR level C1 or not? By going through the all above conversations/reply its look like UK NARIC award CEFR level C1 certificate to only those Bachelor degrees with 4 years like engineering degree and awarded points in Home office PBS calculator.

    Thanks.
    Regards,

    Kumar GB

    1. Hi Kumar

      Thanks for your post,

If a qualification doesn’t obtain points on the Home Office PBS calculator, that doesn’t necessarily mean that we can’t provide the English Language Assessment. We would need to see the details of your qualification in order to look into this but success against the C1 level in the Common European Framework would depend on a number of factors relating to the course and not exclusively the duration. Details on how to apply for this service can be found here: http://bit.ly/VDVmmB.

  70. Hi,

I am applying for Indefinite Leve to remain. I hold Bach Degree ( Electronics) from University of Mumbai ( 1994). UKBA has points based calculator & mentions that they have updated database of qualifications from UKNARIC. My degree appears on the list of Online PBS calculator.

In this case I am wondering is there any value providing ELA from UKNARIC or as my degree is recognised to be equivalent to UK degree the language proficency is as well met by default ( level B1)?

My main concern is to prove English language proficiency.
Statement of companrison has fast track service option whereas ELA doesn’t have that option. Will statement of comparison state anything about English language proficiency?

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

    Mr Mantri

    1. Mr Manti

The Statement of Comparability only states the level of the qualifications concerned, not about the level of English Language.

With regard to whether you need to have a Statement of Comparability or an English Language assessment is entirely up to you; they will support your application. As to whether you will need to have one as the qualification you mention is already on the PBS calculator I think you need to ask the Home Office as we are not in a position to answer specific questions about immigration policy.

      Good luck

    Thanking you

  72. Hi

I want to apply for naturalisation. I have been living in the UK for 9 years, i work as a lecturer in a London university. My degrees are from Romania and France. What do I need to do to demonstrate my English proficiency ? Would a letter from my employer suffice ?

    Thanks.

    1. Hi Teodora,

      Thank you for your Post.

UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and so we are unable to advise on the requirements for naturalisation.

We would recommend you contact the Home Office directly for information on this matter. Their website is https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration and their telephone number is 0870 606 7766.

  73. Hello,

I have completed Bachelor of Computer Applications (3 years) and Master of Computer Science (2 years) from an Indian University recognised on the UK NARIC list. I was taught both the degrees is English Language.

In one of the posts you had replied that the Masters degree is higher than the British bachelor standard so you will not be able use it to assess the English language proficiency.

Please help me with the following:

For the English language assessment, should I send certificates and degree for both
( Bachelors and Masters ) or one of them.

If I send only my Bachelors degree documents, will it be accepted as it is a 3-year degree and not 4-year like Bachelor of Engineering.

    Thank you for you help.
    Kind Regards.
    GS

    1. Dear GS

      Thank you for your post,

UK NARIC would only be able to examine the Bachelor degree for the purposes of the “English Language Assessment”. The English Language Assessment depends on a number of factors but the focus is on the medium of instruction and the level of English that is used as part of the course, without seeing the documentation and looking into this matter further we would be unable to comment on whether it meets a particular standard of English Proficiency.

Unfortunately, as we are unable to discuss individual qualifications in a public forum, such as this. If you have any further enquiries you may wish to contact our call centre on t: +44 871 330 7033, Office hours: Monday to Friday, 09.00 – 17.00 (UK time)

  74. Hi,

Is the ACCA qualification recognised by the home office? I am a fellow of the institute but I do not have a degree.

    Thanks,
    Naz

    1. Hi Naz,

      Thank you for your post.

For ACCA awards, if this is required to demonstrate English proficiency, this award cannot be used for UK NARIC’s English Language Assessment as it is professional in nature and so far as we are aware the Home Office would only accept academic awards for this purpose. UK NARIC could offer a Statement of Comparability, however this would only confirm the academic level of the award in the UK’s education system and this may not be appropriate for your needs.

Please note UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and so We would recommend you contact the Home Office directly for any official information on this matter. Their website is https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration and their telephone number is 0870 606 7766.

      I hope this helps.

  75. I have a degree in Banking and Finance from The Punjab University (Lahore, Pakistan). The degree was for 3 years and was taught and researched in English. Furthermore i have also done my GCSE and A levels from Pakistan. Based on the aforesaid, will you recognise my degree to be equivalent and sufficient for English language requirement?

    1. Hi Maryam,

      Thank you for your post.

Unfortunately we are unable to provide confirmation of awards online and would need to see the the documentation to provide an answer.

  76. Dear Sir/Madam,

Coming few month times,I am going to apply a British citizenship in UK,My question are

    (1) Do I have to do B1 Speaking and listening even I have got ABE (Association of Business Executive) Level 5 and 6 in Business Management from London,UK College, which is equivalent to UK degree and recently I am doing Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management(Level 7) in London as well.

    (2) On Home Office website said to prove my knowledge of English for citizenship and settling.I can prove it by having either:◦an English qualification at B1 level◦ a degree taught or researched in EnglishDegrees taught or researched in English.I’ll need to prove my degree was both: ◦ taught or researched in English◦ confirmed byUK NARIC as the equivalent of a bachelor’s, master’s or PhD degree in the UK.I’ll need to provide your original degree certificate and 1 of the following: ◦ a printout from the points-based calculator with the equivalent level of your degree and the level of English◦ an original letter or certificate from UK NARIC confirming the equivalent level of your degree, plus an official letter from your university with your name and degree confirming that your degree was taught in English◦ an original and official certificate from your university confirming the degree was taught or researched in a majority English-speaking country (except Canada)

    (3) My question is will my ABE Level 5 and 6 qualification qualify for Home Ofiice requirement for citizenship?
Your response to my query would be highly appreciated. Regards

    Regards,
    Fernando

  77. Also I have my IELTS score which I did in Feb,2012 as well(overall 6.0) Listening 6.5,Reading 6.0,Writing 6.0 Speaking 5.5).can I used my ILETS this score for my naturalisation as well?

    1. Hi Fernando,

UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and so we are unable to advise on the specific requirements for an application for citizenship but so far as we are aware the IELTS test would require to be completed in the last 2 years for it to be considered valid. Additionally UK NARIC are aware that academic qualifications of a degree level or higher studied in the UK, would exempt you from the English Proficiency requirements as they are seen to be from a majority English speaking country and should be sufficient to present to the Home Office directly.

Unfortunately, this only applies to academic awards and if the qualification is of a professional nature or a post graduate diploma these can be rejected for this purpose, as a UK award it would not require a comment from UK NARIC but we would recommend contacting the home office directly for clarification with regard to the acceptability of this qualification, their telephone number is 0870 606 7766.

I hope this is of assistance

  78. Dear NARIC,

Many thanks for your reply and valuable information.Just to let you know the above UKBA number 0870 606 7766 that you gave to me is not exist anymore as I phoned.

    With best wishes,
    Fernando

  79. Hi,
I am on indefinite Visa from over 1 years. My husband is a Naturalized British Citizen. I have been living in England for almost 5 years (1 month less than 5 years).I have done Masters Degree in English Literature from recognized University in India. My University is listed in UKBA point based calculator too. I am planning to apply for British Citizenship, According to AN guide I need an English test B1 or equivalent qualification verified by Naric that i have done it it English! My masters is in English, is that not good enough, do i really need to compare my qualification from Naric? As I say i get 10 points when i put my qualification on point based calculator. Plus I am also a student of Radiography (BSc) here in England (running).
Do I really need Naric verification?

    1. Hi Anuradha,

      Thank you for your Post.

If your UK Bachelors is still in progress this would not exempt you. UK NARIC’s English Language Assessment would confirm whether a qualification meets a C1 level in the common European Framework but for this purpose we are only able to do this for overseas qualifications of a Bachelors level studied entirely in English, as such the Masters would be of too high an academic level for that particular service.

UK NARIC can offer the Statement of Comparability against the Masters award, however this would not confirm the medium of instruction of the award so we would recommend seeking further advice on the exact documentation required before applying for that service.

Please be aware that UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and whilst we provide documents that can be of assistance in this process we are not directly involved and would not be unable to advise on the requirements for a Visa or naturalisation application.

We would recommend you contact the Home Office directly for specific information on this matter. (https://www.gov.uk/contact-ukvi/british-citizenship-and-nationality).

      I hope this helps

  80. Hi!

I have a bachelor’s degree (Bachelor of Science in Accountancy) from a university in the Philippines. If I will be able to pass the following:

    a) BSA certificate;
    b) final transcript of record; and
    c) certification from the registrar saying that the medium of instruction is in english,

what are the chances that I will pass the English Language Assessment? All business courses in the Philippines are taught in English. Also, it is worthwhile to note that English is one of the required subjects from pre-school up to college in all schools in the Philippines. We can’t pass in each level without it.

    Thank you for your time.

    Regards,
    Lei

    1. Hi Lei,

  81. Hi, we are currently on ILR (since 21/06/2013) & had passed Life in UK test on 12/03/2013. We are now applying for Naturalisation. My wife had done B.Sc., M.A. & M.B.A . We applied to NARIC for Statement of Comparability & ELA as per telephonic advice from NARIC with her M.B.A. degree & copies of mark sheets for other degrees as we didn’t have them. We explained the reasons as well in covering letter as your advisor suggested. But got response from NARIC that you can not process her application until submission of her Bachelor degree despite of our repeated please that it will take us months to get that sorted.
Why can’t you proceed with M.B.A. for Statement of Comparability & ELA.
    Please advise.
    Naresh

    1. Dear Naresh,

We would recommend contacting our office to discuss how you wish to proceed, as it would not be appropriate to discuss individual details of an application in a public forum such as this.

However, in answer to the general points raised in your comment, whilst the “Statement of Comparability” can be provided for many different levels of awards, it is unfortunate that the “English Language Assessment” is only available specifically for awards that are of a Bachelors level and that we are unable to offer this service for qualifications at a higher level.

Thus we can provide the “Statement of Comparability” and refund the “English Language Assessment” if you are unable to provide the documents for the Bachelors award. However, this would only confirm the academic level of the award and would not make any reference to the medium of instruction.

Again, we would recommend contacting our services team to discuss how you wish to proceed but I hope this information clarifies the issue.

  82. Hi,

I am planning to apply for naturalization. I have passed my Life in UK test in august 2012 but I am not sure what should I do for the knowledge of language. I have checked the website and they asking us to take the English certificate from Cambridge English language assessment. I have completed my Bachelors in Science degree in India from Mumbai University and then I came to UK and completed my Postgraduate Certificate in Management. All the courses were taught in English. I on Indefinite Leave to Remain but my current Indian passport is expiring so I was wondering if you could help me with understand what should be my best option. Should I apply for English Language assessment or should I apply for the valid English course as listed on the UKBA website.

    Thanks in Advance.

  83. Hi, I am a Tier1 (main) applicant and have to apply for ILR. I have a 3 year Bachelors (Hons) and a 1 year Masters degree in Science. I have previously proven my English language skills in HSMP application and Tier1 extension. The points based calculator on the UKBA website is awarding me 30 points for my Masters degree as equivalent to UK Bachelors and 10 points for English if I choose ‘English language already proven’ option. However if I choose the ‘degree taught in English’ option, the points based calculator does not award me any points for English.

Please let me know if the print out for ILR application with 10 points for English (with the option of already proven) would be acceptable or not.

If not, if I need an ELA from UK NARIC, do I need to get my qualification comparison first or should I just apply for an ELA that costs £55.

    Thanks,

  84. Hi,
Please could you help me with some questions regard NARIC’s English Language Assessment
I am applying for my naturalisation and in the BOOKLET AN Naturalisation Booklet is said:
You can satisfy the knowledge of language and life in the UK requirement if you:
    ………2. a. have a speaking and listening qualification in English at B1 CEFR or higher, or an equivalent level qualification;
    OR
    b. have obtained an academic qualification deemed by UK NARIC to meet the recognised standard of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or PhD in the United Kingdom and (i) UK NARIC has confirmed that the qualification was taught or researched in English or (ii) the qualification was taught or researched in the UK……….
I have completed BTEC Professional Certificate Level 5 (in Maritime Management) and BTEC Professional Diploma Level 4 (in International Trade) in 2010 (The College of Central London, UK – EDEXCEL).
My question is: Based on my BTEC Level 5, could I get English assessment done by NARIC or it is not “level” enough?
Thank you very much for your response,
    Kind Regards
    Karolina

    1. Hi Karolina,

Unfortunately, the English Language Assessment is only available for overseas qualifications taught entirely in English at a bachelors level. UK Qualifications if accepted by the home office would not require evidence to confirm they were taught in English. However, so far as we are aware they would not accept Professional qualifications for this purpose and you may have to seek an alternative way of meeting their requirements. Please note that UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and although our documentation can be used for their purposes that we are unable to advise on their requirements. We recommend you contact the Home Office directly for further details on how to contact them directly can be found here http://bit.ly/1iZzOlP

  85. Dear Sir/ Madam:

Me and my husband are applying the permanent Residency (ILR) on this October. I hold a Tier 1 General Visa and my husband currently is my dependence. I have a Master Degree in UK. My husband has a BA Degree from China, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Marketing from a UK university. As He did not gain a Postgraduate Degree, we are bit worried if his qualification meets the English Language requirement,at least B1 for the Permanent Residency application.

Would you please let me know:

    1) If my husband’s Postgraduate Certificate is equivalent or higher than the Bachelor degree? If so, which service we should use to to get an confirmation from your organisation?

    2) For me, Do I need to get my Master Degree to be confirmed again by you? if so, which service I should choose?

    1. Dear Wei,

      Thank you for your post,

UK NARIC is only able to offer its services for awards studied overseas and would be unable to comment on academic awards studied within the UK. While we provide services which are used by the Home Office please note that UK NARIC is a separate organisation and that we are unable to advise on points requirements for the visa application process. We recommend you contact the Home Office directly for information on visa points and have been advised to direct you to their website for further assistance in matters of this nature their website is https://www.gov.uk/

    please let me know thanks

    1. Dear Muhammad,

      Thank you for your post,

The “English Language Assessment” UK NARIC offer is only available for overseas qualifications studied to a bachelors level and we are unable to offer this service against UK Awards. This service is typically used for applications to the Home Office and would not normally be accepted by universities unless specifically requested by them. We are not in a position to offer further advice on English Language Test providers but as you have specified the IELTS test, you may wish to contact course provider you are applying to for further advice on meeting their requirements.

      I hope this helps.

  87. hi

I got MBBS degree from Pakistan and received UK NARIC letter which says it’s equivalent to UK Bachelor Ordinary degree but on ELA NARIC letter it says the qualification doesn’t meet the requirement at C1 level but confirming medium of instruction and examination is in English then doesn’t this mean it at least meet a B1 level or not?

    1. Hi and thank you for your post.

Unfortunately, as stated on our website UK NARIC are only able to confirm whether qualifications meet a C1 level of English Proficiency and would be unable to comment whether it meets a B1 level in the Common European Framework.

If you are using this as part of a visa, application you may wish check the ways in which these requirements can be met on their website.

    1. UK NARIC is the National Agency responsible for providing information and advice about vocational, academic and professional skills and qualifications from all over the world. We provide information about the equivalency of qualifications and skills from overseas to the UK’s national qualifications frameworks.

Although we are unable to offer careers advice our “Statement of Comparability” can provide you with confirmation of where your Indian awards sist in the UK’s education framework, which can help you get more specific advice from careers guidance services and enable you to demonstrate the level of your awards to UK employers when applying for work.

For more information including how to apply please follow the following link: http://bit.ly/XrMrXO

If you are looking for specific advice regarding entering teaching you may wish to contact the National College for Teaching and Leadership who regulate this profession: https://www.education.gov.uk/help/contactus/nctl

  93. Hi, I am applying for Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) visa and i am chemical engineer and i done my 4 years course in English.SO to show Knowledge of English which document i have to provide during my visa application? This Chemical Engineering academic qualification which was taught in English. Is this degree recognised by UK NARIC as being equivalent to a UK bachelors degree? Thanks

    1. Hi Vipul

      Thank you for your post,

Unfortunately, whilst we are able to provide comparability information for awards from overseas, we are not able to discuss specific qualifications in an open forum such as this. You may be able to obtain a verbal comparison by contacting our enquiries service centre on 0871 330 7033 and discussing your award with one of our Information Advisors.

If you require written record of your comparison you should apply for the UK NARIC “Statement of Comparability” For more information including how to apply for this service, please follow the following link: http://bit.ly/XrMrXO

Please note the “Statement of Comparability” will only confirm the academic standing of your award in the UK’s Education system and will not comment on the medium of instruction for the degree. UK NARIC offer an English Language Assessment which will consider whether an overseas degree taught entirely on English meets a C1 level of English Proficiency in the Common European Framework (please follow the following for details and how to apply for this service. http://bit.ly/VDVmmB).

If you are intending to use these for a VISA application and are unsure of the specific requirements needed we recommend contacting the Home office directly for further details. As although UK NARIC provides services which are used by the Home Office we are not directly involved in this process. Their website is https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration and their telephone number is 0870 606 7766.

      I hope this helps.

  94. Hello,

I’m currently working in the UK, as a Tier-2 (ICT) dependent. I’m thinking of my Tier 2 general visa get processed.

I hold a bachelor degree in Mechanical engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. Which could be found in UKBA points calculator.
Medium of instruction was English, but currently I’m not able to get the letter since I’m away from India currently.

Can I submit my degree certificate and marks list for English language assessment?

    1. Hi Kranthi,

We can in some circumstances proceed without the need for the letter confirming the medium of instruction, however without seeing your Certificate and Marks sheet we would be unable to confirm this for certain.

If you make an application and it is unable to proceed without this letter, you would be eligible for a refund as such we recommend to apply for the “English Language Assessment” and we can then advise you should any further documents be required.

      Kind regards

  95. hello, i would like to ask you how long does processing time of english language assessment services after the status change into additional research, iam already applied for it and my status shows additional research, please reply me soon

    1. Unfortunately, because UK NARIC can often be waiting on information from 3rd parties where a qualification requires further research we are unable to advise on the time-scale for completion. You may however be able to get further information regarding your application or how you can further assist with the application by contacting our enquiries service centre on 0871 330 7033.

      I hope this helps

  100. I have a question about NARIC English Language Assessment as part of UK Immigration process. My wife intends to settle in the UK and needs to apply for a UK permanent residence visa. She has a Masters degree taught in English so meets the requirement.

We applied for English level assessment and received a letter. It says ‘The level of English language for the above degree course is considered to meet the requirements of CEFR Level C1’

    1) Does that mean she meets the requirements for UK immigration?

    2) The letter then offers an optional Certificate of English Language Assessment for the named qualification. This is an optional service for an additional £20.

is this needed for UK visa applications? She also intends to study at university whilst living in the UK – will this certificate help with university applications?

    Thank you

    Simon

    1. Dear Simon,

Thank you for your enquiry. In answer to your questions:
      1. With regard to the UK immigration requirements this is not something we are able to advise on directly so would recommend you get in touch with them directly. Their website is https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration.
      2. The Certificate is not needed for UK Visa applications it is an optional extra. You may find that the certificate would help with her University applications as most UK Universities use UK NARIC to assess overseas qualifications.

I hope that answers your questions but if you would like to discuss your wife’s case in more depth please contact our office directly on t: +44 871 330 7033

  101. I am applying for a tier-2 UK work permit.

I obtained my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Engineering from Thailand. My bachelor’s degree program was taught in Thai, but my Master’s program was entirely taught in English.

Will UK NARIC recognize that my degree is equivalent to at least a UK bachelor’s degree?

    Thank you very much.

    1. Hi

It is very difficult to comment on qualifications from overseas without having more information. Also, this public forum is not the best place to discuss such matters.

Please email communications@naric.org.uk with details about both courses and specifically what the entry requirements were for the Master’s program.

      Many thanks

      UK NARIC

  102. Dear Sir,

    Many Thanks,
    Shabbir

    1. Dear Shabbir,

Many thanks for getting in touch.

Please note although UK NARIC provides services that are used by UKVI it is not directly involved in the citizenship application process and cannot advise you on the necessary required documents for this, as such we would always recommend checking with UKVI to ensure you are providing them with the correct informations. Further details may be found here: https://www.gov.uk/browse/visas-immigration

      Depending on the requirements
UK NARIC offer an English Language Assessment specifically against Bachelor level awards taught entirely in English to demonstrate proficiency to a C1 level in the CEFR framework. Additionally, UK NARIC offer a Statement of Comparability which can be used to demonstrate the academic level of your awards in the UK’s educational framework but please note this document does not confirm that your course was taught in English,

Full details of UK NARIC’s services including how to apply can be found here:

      http://ecctis.co.uk/naric/individuals/

      Best wishes

      UK NARIC

      1. Thanks for you reply, Much appreciate.

I have checked the above link on UKBA website so i was confused whether to apply for both services or just one i.e “English Language Assessment” and “Statement of Comparability”.

Below is detail mention on UKBA website

        UKBA *****************************************

Degrees taught or researched in English
You’ll need to prove your degree was both:

        taught or researched in English
confirmed by UK NARIC as the equivalent of a bachelor’s, master’s or PhD degree in the UK
You’ll need your original degree certificate and one of the following:

a printout from the points-based calculator with the equivalent level of your degree and the level of English
an original letter or certificate from UK NARIC confirming the equivalent level of your degree, plus an official letter from your university with your name and degree confirming that your degree was taught in English

        END ******************************************************

For you information below are details i can provide

        1. Certificate of Bachelor Degree (Mumbai University)
        2. Medium of Instruction letter (Which mention degree is taught in English)
        3. Final Transcript.

Please guide which service should i select.

        Kind Regards,
        Shabbir

    2. Dear Shabbir,

You would only need to apply for an English Language Assessment if you have been asked to prove that your degree was taught or researched in English and only UKVI can confirm this. The same goes for the Statement of Comparability. As previously mentioned although UK NARIC provides services that are used by UKVI it is not directly involved in the citizenship application process and cannot advise you on the necessary required documents for this, as such we would always recommend checking with UKVI to ensure you are providing them with the correct information. Further details may be found here: https://www.gov.uk/browse/visas-immigration

If you do need to go ahead with the English Language Assessment and the Statement of Comparability then you can make the application online and can put the covering letter in the additional information section which comes towards the end of the application.

I hope that answers your questions.

  103. Hi,

I have a Degree of Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology from Anna University, Tamilnadu, India.

Do you guys provide a equivalence UK degree letter?

    Thanks
    Sai

    1. Dear Sai,
Thank you fo ryour post while we are unable to discuss individual comparisons in a public forum, such as this, I can confirm that UK NARIC is able to provide comparisons for qualifications studied in India. If you wish for a verbal confirmation of the likely comparison, our advisors are able to give you advice over the phone on t: +44 871 330 7033, Office hours: Monday to Friday, 09.00 – 17.00 (UK time).

Alternatively you can apply for the “Statement of Comparability” further details including how to apply for this service can be found here: http://bit.ly/XrMrXO

      I hope this helps.

  104. Hi Uk naric,

I am completed my b.tech From Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad, India, Its a Four year course. now I have provisional certificate with me, still college not issued Degree certificate.

I am eligible to apply uknaric application process or not.please help me with this.

    Thanks
    Jakeet

    1. Whilst we are unable to comment on specific qualifications in an open forum such as this we are able to compare Indian qualifications.

Additionally, if you have yet to receive your final certificate in the majority of cases as long as this is explained when submitting your application and a proof of completion , such as your provisional certificate, is provided along with the other required documents then in the majority of cases UK NARIC can normally still provide a statement. However, the statement issued will include a note explaining that we did not see the final certificate at the time the comparison was issued.

While this will not normally present problems when showing the statement to organisations where shown along with your original qualifications but if you do have a particular organisation you are wishing to use this statement for it is always worth double checking with them before applying.

      Best wishes

  111. Hi,

I completed my doctoral degree in Hong Kong, and would like to have it assessed by UK NARIC. The degree has been conferred but the certificate is unavailable at the moment because I live overseas and cannot collect it yet. Instead I have obtained an official testimonial issued by the university confirming that I have graduated (with details about the studies and the award). Also, the academic transcript which I have clearly shows that the degree was conferred. In this case, will UK NARIC still be able to carry out the assessment and issue a statement of comparability?

    Thank you very much.

    1. Hi there,

Quite often individuals may not have all the documents that are outlined as required according to our website. However, when you apply online there is an area where you can write additional information relevant to your application if you explain your situation as you have done here, we will be able to confirm whether we have sufficient information to proceed with the application or what alternative information we may need. In most cases providing we can confirm that the award has been completed, UK NARIC can issue a comparison but with a note confirming we have not seen the final certificate at the time. This notification can later be removed once the certificate becomes available.

      I hope this helps

      UK NARIC

      1. Hi,

Thank you very much for your reply. There isn’t an area where I can write additional information relevant to my application. Instead I left a message describing my situation. But the message might have been overlooked and yesterday I found a note (probably generated by your colleague via the user portal) saying that a copy of the final certificate would be required. I believe the evidence offered is sufficient and even more detailed than the degree certificate itself. Could you kindly tell me what has happened? My enquiry number is 3000029092. Thank you very much.

      2. Not a problem,

We have raised your concerns with our services team who have sent your documentation for further checking and should be able to confirm whether we are able to proceed with the comparison for the Doctorate and confirm with you again in due course.

        Best wishes

  112. Dear NARIC, I have bachelor’s degree in English. And I have been teaching English for about ten years(in Iran). Iam going to emigrate to the UK. There is an insinstitute here in Iran which is one of the branches of Cambridge university. If I take a TTC course in the institute and pass the TKT, is it possible for me to work as a teacher in the UK? And will you assess the TKT? Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Shekoufeh,

Unfortunately we are unable to comment on individual awards online, however if you call our information advisors on +448713307303 they are normally able to provide you with an informal comparison over the phone.

Regarding your right to teach as teaching is regulated in the UK by the National College of Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) you will need to contact them for clarification on how to work as a teacher in the UK but the statement of comparability UK NARIC offer may well assist you in clarifying your qualifications to them. The more information on the becoming a teacher in the UK and the NCTL’s contact details can be found here:

      https://www.education.gov.uk/help/contactus/nctl

  113. Hi,

i currently hold a bachelor degree (2 years full time) from one of Malaysia private university and planning to further study in UK. English language requirement had been waived by the university as my degree were issued by institution using English as teaching medium. However in order to apply for student visa (tier 4), i need to proof English proficiency by taking test like IELTS unless if my academic qualification recognized by UK NARIC as being equivalent to UK bachelor degree. So which UK NARIC service should i apply for?

Statement of comparability or English language assessment?

    thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Iris,

      Thanks for getting in touch.

The “Statement of Comparability” solely confirms the academic level of your award in the UK’s education system and doesn’t mention English Language proficiency.

The English Language Assessment however providing your award meets the standard of a UK Bachelors award will be checked to see if the standard of teaching meets a C1 level of English proficiency in the common European framework.

Whilst I can clarify the services provided by UK NARIC, we are not directly involved in the visa application process so always double check the requirements being asked for before proceeding with one of our services.

      Kind regards

  114. Hi there,

I’m just to apply for British Citizenship but i haven’t got NARIC certificate.
However, I hold Dip. of High Education awarded from the University of Hertfordshire in England which I have obtained in England.

On a separate page In the transcript the Diploma is classified as:
    Level of study: Undergraduate,
    Language of instruction: English and,
    Language of assessment English

Therefore I was wondering if the diploma is enough or I have to take some further action.

    Thank you,
    Bo

    1. Hi Bo,

Unfortunately while our services can be used by the home office we are not directly involved in the process for VISA’s or British Citizenship and so are not not in a position to assist with enquiries regarding applications for British Citizenship. Further details may be found on the Home office website here: https://www.gov.uk/browse/citizenship/citizenship

      Kind regards

This is regarding my wife’s Visa – She has been in UK for 3 years since 2008 on her own Tier 2 ICT Visa, and wants to change her status as “Dependent on Settled person Visa” (FLR). Apparently, she has to provide the ‘English Language Assessment’ certificate issues by NARIC.

She has Final Degree certificate from Anna University Along with her Mark sheets.

Could you please confirm if this will suffice the requirements for NARIC to issue the certificate for English Language Assessment? or is there any specific need for the same?

Also, how many days it is expected to take if applied on line.

    Regards
    Ashish

    1. Hi Ashish,

Thanks for getting in touch, the turnaround time for UK NARIC’s servicee is noramlly 10-15 working days from receipt of all the necessary information. It sounds like something we can look into and then providing we can confirm that the award sits at a Bachelors level in the UK we will then be able to investigate and confirm whether or not the course meets a C1 level of English proficiency.

Unfortunately until we receive the application we are unable to confirm if it meets the necessary requirement and the English Language Assessment is not guaranteed to confirm that it meets the required level.

Full details and how to apply for this service can be found here: http://bit.ly/VDVmmB

      1. Thanks Team,

So I will go ahead and send the ‘Degree Certificate’ and ‘Transcript’, and I will choose ‘English Language Assessment’ Service (and not ‘Comparability Service’ which is not required for FLR )

Hope to get this sorted sooner the expected time frame.

Let me know if I am missing something.

        Regards
        Ashish

  116. Hello,

I hope you can provide an advice on the below, please.

I am due to finish my BA (Hons) Business studies with International Development degree with Open University, Manchester in June 2015. I have lived in the UK since 2006 and the degree has been taught and researched in English only. Can I ask the University to issue me with documents verifying the completion of the degree and use them as proof of my proficiency in English instead of undertaking B1 ESOL Entry 3 test? Would that be accepted by Home Office as sufficient to support my application for British citizenship?

    Please advise.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Marieta

    1. Hi Marieta,

      UK NARIC

      1. Hi,

Many thanks for your prompt reply.

One of the points on the Home Office website says that degrees taught and researched in English can be used as long as they are proven to be taight and researched in English and are confirmed by UK NARIC as the equivalent of a bachelor’s, master’s or PhD degree in the UK. The Open University is University based in the UK and it is registered in the Ofqual register. Would that mean that a confirmation from yourselves is not required because there is no equivalent to be sought as this is English university based in UK?

        Thanks again.

        Regards,
        Marieta

      2. Hi Marieta,

Certainly we would not offer the English Language Assessment service against UK awards for this reason. However, if your award is incomplete the, at the time of your application this may be viewed differently and is certainly worth clarifying.

        Best wishes

        UK NARIC

  117. Hi! I’m an Indian national applying for a family visa to join a settled person in the UK. Is a SOC sufficient to prove my knowledge of English (CEFR A1 based on policy guidance) or do I need the ELA in addition to the SOC? The examples on your site show that the SOC will state if a degree is equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree, which is what seems to be the primary ask of the Home Office. Please advise. https://www.gov.uk/join-family-in-uk/knowledge-of-english

    1. Hi Richa,

we recently clarified how our services can help here:
      http://uknaric.org/2015/01/30/uk-naric-statements-of-comparability-and-english-language-assessment-can-help-with-uk-visa-and-british-citizenship-applications/

But to explain further a statement of Comparability will not mention the medium of instruction and will only provide a comparison of the level of the qualification in the UK’s educational framework. The English Language Assessment service is our only service that comments on the proficiency for English of an award. Whilst this is normally done to a C1 level in the CEFR framework if you require it at a lower level such as A1 please include this detail in your application.

      Kind regards

      UK NARIC

  118. Thank you for your response UK NARIC. Is there a specific contact detail at the Home Office I can use to further clarify, please?

    Many thanks again.

    Regards,
    Marieta

  119. I wanted to know that i have opted for a course in Ireland which does not require english language test,do i still have to give this test for an irish student visa?

    1. Hi Yamini,

As a UK organisation not directly involved in visa applications, We would be unable to advise on this type of question and recommend contacting the appropriate authorities in Ireland.

      Kind regards

      UK NARIC

  120. Hi!

According to yours website, UK NARIC can help me providing an “assessment and a statement to confirm whether an individual’s approved English language test meets the required level of English language proficiency (CEFR level C1)”.

Does that means that UK NARIC can confirm that my TOEFL >72 scores can be considered as a B2 CEFR Level? (https://www.ets.org/toefl/institutions/scores/compare/)

    Tks for the help, :-)!

    1. Hi Francis,

Owing to the nature of the service, we are only able to provide the English Language Assessment against an English Test provider that has been approved by the Home Office. This assessment is done pass or fail against the higher level of C1 in the CEFR scale. If you do not have a valid test this can also be completed against an overseas qualification equivalent to a UK bachelors award, where the medium of instruction has been English throughout.

Details of the tests recognised by the home office can be found at http://www.gov.uk

      I hope this helps

      Kind regards

      UK NARIC

      1. Tks for the fast reply.

        Not so clear yet.

I have a 97 score TOEFL certificate what, according to them, is compared to a C1 CEFR level (you can see this compare table on the link that I included on the previous reply).

Can UK NARIC asses this score that I have? With UK NARIC assessing my certificate, can I apply for a Tier 2 General Visa?

        Tks,

        Francis

      2. Hi Francis,

The TOEFL test is no longer a recognised secure english language test according to the Home offices latest information, as such we would be unable to provide confirmation against the CEFR scale for this purpose. Again you would be better rechecking on the home office website the necessary evidence required for this purpose.

  121. hi , I am currently preparing to apply for settlement in the UK. I have completed a Graduate Diploma in Systemic Practice from BirkbecK University, UK and also a postgraduate diploma in Systemic Practice from UCL. both these were taught in English and the assements including a viva were in English . Do i still need to undertake an English language test for B1 CEFR ?
Please could you advise if my uk qualifications are sufficent and whether UKNARIC can help me and the costs involved.
    Thanks #
    Joanna

    1. Hi Joanna,

Many thanks for getting in touch.

If you hold a UK undergraduate degree, you would not need to have the qualification confirmed by UK NARIC as being taught in English for this purpose. For the full requirements of settlement in the UK please check the Home Office website as we are not directly involved in this process. http://www.gov.uk

      Kind regards

  122. Hello
I am due applying for settlement visa in couple of month. I hold UK Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Science from UK University. This qualification is taught in English. Do i still need to undertake an English language test for B1 CEFR ?
Please could you advise if my UK qualification is sufficient for my Settlement visa application..?

    Thank you in advance
    Mr.Patel

  123. Hi,

I have a Maters degree in computer science from India. I have used this degree twice for Tier1 General visa, for intial application and for one extension. The degree used to be in the approved list of qualifications for English Language in the UKBA point base calculator that time.

But now the degree no more gives any points for English in the point base calculator. It is now removed from approved list of NARIC.

My question is why the degree is now removed and also how will it effect the individauls for whom once it was valid.

I also did an English assement from NARIC hoping that might be it is not is the UKBA list but NARIC would be able to give the correct assessment, but they also replied back saying that it does not meet the requirments.

I am confused how it is possible that a person had the required knowledge in the past and now he d0 not have that ?

    Thanks

    1. Hi Devendra,

We are sorry to hear about your situation. Although, UK NARIC provides information to the Home Office we are not directly involved in the visa application process or the Home Offices decision making and as such we are not in a position to explain why this change has occurred.

      Kind regards

  124. Hi,

I’m currently preparing to apply for UK citizenship. In terms of “knowledge of language” would ACCA qualifications studied and obtained in UK (London) in 2013 be enough of a proof?

Do I need to do any other tests on a top of my professional qualifications?

    Kind regards

    1. Hi Marzena,

Thanks for getting in touch, please visit the UK Home office web pages on visas and immigration (www.gov.uk) for details on the necessary English language requirements. Although UK NARIC services can assist where required, we are not directly involved with this process and are unable to advise on these requirements.

      Kind regards

  125. Hi,
I am planning to apply for British citizenship. I am an ESOL tutor and I also hold a Postgraduate Diploma from London Metropolitan University and a Postgraduate cert in teaching English from Institute of Education. Would these 2 qualifications enough to prove my language skills?
Thanks for your advice in advance.
    Anett

    1. To our knowledge post-graduate certificates would not be sufficient it needs to be a Bachelor or Masters Degree. Do check this on the Home office site however as we are not directly involved in this process.

  126. Hi,

I have a MBA diploma in Marketing from HEC Montreal and University of Ottawa Int’l Programe taught in Bucharest/Romania. Do I need to equal my studies for UK ?
    Many thanks,

    Radu

    1. Hi Radu,

A UK NARIC “Statement of Comparability” isn’t a compulsory document but it can help UK Organisations understand your qualifications better and help them make a more informed decision.

      Best wishes

      UK NARIC

  127. I have done my bs(honour) in chemistry from Pakistan but I got SOC from NARIC as ordinary bechlor degree how can I change it to honour degree?plzz reply

    1. Hi Shahana,

UK NARIC isn’t directly involved in the delivery of Higher Education courses and is not aware of a way in which you would be able to “upgrade” your current qualification to an honours degree standard. You may wish to contact a university who may be able to better advise you on complimentary further study. Alternatively, when presenting your awards to organisation you should present your transcripts and highlight relevant experience, to help them make an informed decision when considering your application.

Please note that an Ordinary Degree and Honours Degree both sit at the same level in the UK’s educational framework and reflect different methods of study rather than a reflection of the grade given. Ordinary Degree’s are mainly classroom and supervised based whereas Honours Degrees involve significant independent study and project work.

      I hope this helps

  128. Hi Team. I am from India, I am holding B.com(honours) degree done from Delhi university taught in English .. I am going to apply family settled visa to settle with my wife in U.K . Please let me whether I have to take any English test like CEFR or other English tests

    Thanks Regards,

    1. Hi and thanks for your comment, but we are not in a position to advise on the requirements for VISA applications although we offer services that may assist you with visa we are not directly involved in this process and are unable to comment on requirements. Please see the Home Office website (www.gov.uk) for more details.

Our blog offers some advice on how our services have been used for this purposes, which can be seen here: http://bit.ly/1BQLIHP

  129. Hi,

I am having ILR Visa and I am in UK. My Wife is in India and she is applying for the Family of a settled person visa. She has done Mcom(masters in commerce) from rajasthan University, India. Her marksheet clearly says that the medium was ENGLISH. Her University chancellor was saying they are not going to provide any letter saying that Mcom is taught in English as it is already mentioned in the marksheet.

Do I still need to get a certificate of comparibility fro NARIC. I hope Mcom is equivalent to Bachelor’s degree in UK.

    1. Hi Mitesh,

Although our services can help provide evidence for Visa applications, UK NARIC is not involved in the Visa application process and are unable to advise on the requirements for a visa.

We recommend checking http://www.gov.uk for clarification on the necessary evidence for the English Language requirements.

  130. English requirements for dependent? My wife has a Bachelor of Science with upper second class honours degree from London Metropolitan University in computing and Information Systems. She got it in 2005 from a offshore learning program offered by British Council. The exam were all conducted in British Council. The degree certificate also awarded by London Metropolitan University where the qualification was taught or researched in English.

I have come across the below on https://www.gov.uk/english-language/degrees-in-english
where Home office needs original degree certificate and a printout from the points-based calculator with the equivalent level of your degree and the level of English
I can provide this printout by selecting her degree on the calculator which accepts the required point of 10 for English language qualification. Also will produce her original certificate and transcriptions. Please advise whether this should meet the requirements to prove the English for her.

    1. Hi Shaibel,

Thanks for your message although we offer services that may assist you with visa we are not directly involved in this process and are unable to comment on requirements. Please see the Home Office website (www.gov.uk) for more details.

Our blog offers some advice on how our services have been used for this purposes which can be seen here: http://bit.ly/1BQLIHP

  131. Hi

I am applying for ILR and applied for English language assessment from Naric.

I did bachelor of technology in computer science and engineering from India and submitted 4 years marks memo and provision certificate of course completion but i got email from Naric that following words will be included in assessment

“We can provide an assessment of your qualification(s) however please note we have not been provided with a copy of your final certificate and as a result, the following sentence will be included in your letter: Although no final certificate has been presented, evidence of successful course completion has been provided. If you wish to proceed on this basis please click on the following icon in the action column.”

Please let me know if assessment is acceptable by home office

    1. Hi Varma,

We are not involved with the Home Office, so cannot confirm what they would accept and would recommend clarifying with them but we frequently issue statements with that line included where a final certificate has been lost, is yet to be issued or is otherwise unavailable as part of our application process.

  132. I am a british citizen. 5 years ago i moved too pakistan and did my IGCSE there in a international Acadmey named ACE. It is likned to cambridge system and follows the uk education deparment here. I dont know if i make sense but please do reply to my email. My problem is that in pakistan i done english as second language and nie that im back my college wants me to do my GCSE again for english as first language. I dont want to sit again as i got a pretty good grade. How can i get my result Nariced.

    1. Hi Munawar,

We are unable to recognise qualifications where English is studied as a second language to GCSE English, organisations are encouraged to take into account other factors and use their discretion in such circumstances but the decision rests with the organisation you are applying to.

  133. Dear Sir or Madam,

I currently have Latvian citizenship and I am in the process of applying for British citizenship.

I did my A- Levels in the UK and I have graduated from Solent Southampton University where I did BSc Hons at 1st class. Does that mean that I still have to obtain a proof by NARIC or I would have to complete ‘The Life in the UK’ test?

I am looking forward to your reply.

  134. Hi
I’m working in the UK. I have R.P in this country. I need to apply UK visa for my wife. She done BA in English. If I need to apply for English Language Assessment, what are the document need to apply?

  135. hi, i want to apply for british citizenship. which ietls do i need to give? academic or general. i have my life in the uk test certificate.
    thank you

    1. Hi Pabi,

We are not directly involved in the Home Office nor IELTS and are unable to comment on their requirements or services. You may wish to check the http://www.gov.uk website for further details of the requirements for British Citizenship.

  136. Hi
I want to apply for a teaching training course through UCAS.
My degree in English literature and language was tought in english.I want to know if the English Language Assessment is acceptable for my application?
    Thank you.

    1. Hi for the requirements of your application you may wish to talk to UCAS as they will determine what evidence they accept.

The Statement of Comparability can help you demonstrate the level of your academic awards, whereas the English Language Assessment is more typically used to demonstrate English proficiency for overseas degrees in countries that have been taught in English.

More information on both these services can be found on our website

  137. Hello would I require a English language assesment for my undergraduate degree acquired in the UK. I was born here and have been to school here, all my life. I’m not sure if I need to have my certificates assessed. As the course was in English and undertaken in the UK.

    1. Hi Iduahman, UK NARIC’s services are not required for UK degrees, however do check thoroughly the requirements needed by the organisation you are applying to.

  138. Just a quick question – My wife will apply to “join a family member permanently living in the UK”. She has a postgraduate MA degree awarded in the UK from prior study, does this meet the requirements without having to do a NARIC assesment as the degree was awarded in the UK whilst she studied there?

Will just the degree transcript and certificate be sufficient for the visa application?

    1. Hi Simon,

Unfortunately we are not directly involved in the visa/naturalisation applications and are unable to offer comment on the requirements for these but you can check the Home Office requirements online through Governments webpage

      I hope this helps.

  139. Last year I applied for naric verification of my Pakistani degree which was graded as simple bachelor, now I want to apply for English proficiency for my immigration. I know I have apply to get the proof but I just want to know if you think a UK naric verified simple bachelor degree taught in English is enough for immigration requirements. My inquiry no was 2000186105

    1. Hi Nasir,

Unfortunately we are not directly involved in the visa/naturalisation applications and are unable to offer comment on the requirements for these but you can check the Home Office requirements online through Governments webpage.

You have already obtained the Statement of Comparability. However, UK NARIC also offers an English Language Assessment service for Bachelor level awards taught entirely in English that can help demonstrate your English proficiency if needed.

      I hope this helps.

  140. Do i need ELA or SOC according new Kol requirement nov 2015 ?? Or do i need both service if my degree is from india?

    1. Hi Dharmen,

While we are able to provide our services if needed we are not in a position to comment on whether these are necessary for a specific purpose do check with the organisation you are applying with to ensure that our documents will meet the necessary requirements.

      I hope this helps.

      1. Sorry , am enquiring inregard to settlement and still i have ambiguity in your reply as your website state that you need ELA , so is it sufficient to use ELA to fulfill the requirement for KOL or you need SOC as well

  141. i asked you a question but feel I have to rephrase it. can you please tell me what English proficiency level a entirely taught in English degree from Pakistan will have which is already verified by naric as simple bachelor.

  142. Hi,

I am planing to apply naturalisation as a British citizen. But I don’t have any degree in the UK. I do have AAT Level 3 and IAB Level 3 qualifications. (both are Accounting qualifications) I am not sure these are good enough or not. Do I need to take the B1 Ielts life skills test or other english test?

    Please help!

    Many thanks,

    Ling

    1. As the qualification is of a professional nature it would not meet the requirements for the English Language Assessment service we offer. We advise you to contact the Home Office directly as they can advise you on what test you may need to take to suffice their requirements.

  143. Hi Team,
I am from India.I have applied for UK tier2(General) VISA .
I have completed my bachelor of Engineering degree (4 year course) from University Of Rajasthan. This course was taught in English and I have all the related mark sheet and degree in English.
The problem is when I am calculating points through calculator , it is giving me zero. Due to this issue I am not able to apply for a VISA.
I have visited UK government site (https://www.gov.uk/english-language/degrees-in-english), After reading I came to know that NARIC is the authority for all education related stuff.

One of the way suggested on the link is that, I should get an original letter or certificate from UK NARIC confirming the equivalent level of your degree, plus an official letter from your university with your name and degree confirming that your degree was taught in English.
As I have already mentioned that my Engineering degree was taught in English , Could please explain how can I request for UK NARIC certificate in order to prove English ability? Also after getting this certificate will I get English score as 10 points?

    Thanks,
    KS

    1. As this is a Home Office tool UK NARIC would not be able to award you 10 points for English, only the Home Office can do this. The English Language Assessment can be used to prove your English in terms of CEFR levels. A separate service, a Statement of Comparability, provides the equivalent level of your award. We advise you to contact the Home Office directly to confirm what would suffice your visa requirements.

      1. Hi,

I am from Rajasthan, india. I have done Bachelor of engineering (BE) a 4 years course taught in English ( along with degree and marksheets are in english) from university of rajasthan(UOR).

During visa calculator it comes to zero point in english assignment (EA) for UOR students. However for Rajasthan technical university(RTU)(After 2005 UOR gave some department to RTU, engineering is one of them) is getting 10 points in EA.

How it will be possible or we can say criteria UK home office or UK NARIC is following to give points under EA during visa calculator ? Because the contents of course for engineering is same, It’s just a movement from one university to another inside rajasthan, India.

I would like to highlight this issue so that Students of University of rajasthan will not be suffer who did equivalent engineering degree course compare to RTU. Where RTU’s students is getting 10 points in english assignment but UOR’s students are not.

Please look into it. Thanks in advance

      2. Hi,

        Thank you for your query.

UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and that we are unable to advise on points requirements for the visa application process. We recommend you contact the Home Office directly for information on visa points. Their website is https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration

Whilst the Points Based Calculator utilises some UK NARIC data, we are unable to advise or comment on the points awarded or how this data is used; you would need to make further enquiries with the Home Office regarding this.

We are able to consider your qualification for a Statement of Comparability and/or an English Language Assessment. Please see our website for further details.

I hope this is of assistance to you.

        Kind regards,

        UK NARIC

      3. Hello There,
I was referring UK Government website (https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/477879/Tier_2_Policy_Guidance_11_2015.pdf) at page 37, I came to know below point –

“If your degree was taken in a country that is not on the list above, we will use information from
UK NARIC on whether the overseas qualification was taught in English to the required level.

If UK NARIC cannot confirm your qualification is equivalent to at least UK bachelors level or that
it was taught in English to the required level, we will not award any points for it. In this case, you
may wish to use an alternative qualification if you have one.”

My question is will I get the required certificate (mentioned in above point) from UK NARIC as I have completed my Bachelor of engineering from University of Rajasthan, Jaipur India. This degree taught in English and all the mark sheets is in an English. And FYI, the equivalent engineering course (B.Tech) teaching in Rajasthan technical university and they are getting 10 points in english assignment in visa calculator.

If I am an eligible candidate for getting required certificate would you please suggest what service I need to take from UK NARIC.

        Thanks.

      4. Hi,

Thank you for contacting UK NARIC.

Please note that UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and that we are unable to advise on points requirements for the visa application process. We recommend you contact the Home Office directly for information on visa points. Their website is https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration

In regards to the UK NARIC service you require, this is dependant on the information you need us to provide. The Statement of Comparability service provides a statement confirming the academic level of your qualification in the UK’s qualifications framework (such as Bachelor’s, Master’s). It does not comment on the medium of instruction. UK NARIC’s English Language Assessment provides an assessment and a statement to confirm that an international academic qualification deemed comparable to a UK Bachelor, Master’s or (in exceptional circumstances) PhD degree is taught in English to the standard of CEFR B1, B2 or C1. Please note, for a separate written assessment confirming the comparable UK level of your academic qualification, you would also need to apply for the UK NARIC Statement of Comparability.

You can call us on (0044) (0)871 330 7033, Monday to Friday (between 9:00am and 5:00pm), to speak to an Information Adviser and they will be happy to discuss this with you further.

        Kind regards,

        UK NARIC

  144. Could you please confirm if I need to take Knowledge of English test for applying citizenship. I am ACCA qualified, studied and took the test in the UK and have been working for a British multinational company in London for over 10 years as a senior manager.

    1. As the qualification is of a professional nature it would not meet the requirements for the English Language Assessment service we offer. We advise you to contact the Home Office directly as they can advise you on what test you may need to take to suffice their requirements.

  145. Hi team,
I’m planning to apply for a tier 2 general visa. My bachelors degree is accepted by the points based system calculator and is awarded 10 points. My query is would I still need to send my degree for UKNARIC verification?

    Thanks

      Thank you for your query.

  146. Hi,

I am applying for tier 2 visa. I completed my PhD (Feb 2010 – Jan 2016) at Middle East Technical University (Turkey) where the medium of instruction is English. Can you please let me know if this meets the criteria for CEFR level C1 in UK before? Or is there any list of universities those meet this criterion?
And also what is the meaning of “in exceptional circumstances”?

    Kind regards,

    1. Thank you for your message. We cannot provide results of an individual assessment via social media. However, you can speak to one of our advisers on 08713307033 who can provide you with further advice for your award. Our lines are open Monday to Friday 9-5

  147. Hi team,

I am a CPA Australia member and applying for Tier 2 (General) visa. I read that CIMA is recognised by UK Naric as equivalent to a master’s degree (http://www.ecctis.co.uk/naric/news%20story.aspx?NewsID=402). CPA Australia and CIMA has mutual recognition agreement for members and wondering if you’ve already made an assessment for CPA Australia in the past and if it’s recognised as master’s degree equivalent in the UK?

    Thanks

    1. Thank you for contacting UK NARIC. Please note we are unable to comment on specific qualifications via social media.

You can call us on +44 (0)871 330 7033 for advice over the telephone (Calls costs 11p per minute plus your phone company’s access charge.), Monday to Friday (9:00am to 5:00pm).

We are able to provide a Statement of Comparability for completed qualifications that form a distinct level in the qualifications framework of the country of origin. You can apply and upload your documents directly through our website: http://www.naric.org.ukhttp://www.naric.org.uk

      I hope this helps.

    1. Hi,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

Please note we are unable to comment on specific applications via social media.

UK NARIC’s English Language Assessment is for qualifications that have been taught in English that are comparable to a UK Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD standard, in line with the requirements of the UK Home Office. We are unable to offer an English Language Assessment for school level awards.

If you would like further advice specific to your application, please send us a message through the User Portal.

      Kind regards,

      UK NARIC

  149. Hi,

I’m applying for settlement marriage visa and I have attended and got my Bachelor Honours certificate with First Class from within UK, may I know if this is enough for the English requirement? Or I still need to go on an English test to prove my English?

    Please advise and thanks!

    Deb

    1. Dear Deb,

Please understand that we are unable to advise on particular immigration and settlement applications. The Home Office can give definitive advice on what is required in particular individual circumstances and situations. I hope this information is useful.

  150. Hi,
I need a Tier-2 VISA for UK. I have applied for NARIC English language assessment. Here is the assessment details I received from NARIC:

Title of Award: Bachelor of Science in Chemistry
English Level: The level of English language for the above degree course is considered to meet the requirements of CEFR level C1

Title of Award: Master of Science in Chemistry
English Level: The level of English language for the above degree course is considered to meet the requirements of CEFR level C1

Is this certificate with this qualification is ok to apply for VISA. I mean will it serve the purpose of knowledge of english.

One degree (Bachelor or Master) is fine for application as I can see both have CEFR level C1
    Sincerely,
    Partha

    1. Hi Partha,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

We are unable to comment on specific visa requirements and recommend you contact UKVI/ the Home Office directly to check their requirements. 1. Hi i have got a graduate Diploma in Business administration awarded by EBMA UK and also a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing awarded by OFQUAL in UK. Will it be considered as Uk Bachelor degree?? Thanks

      2. Hi,

The role of UK NARIC is to comment on overseas qualifications only. If your qualification(s) appear on the OFQUAL register as being UK awards, we would be unable to comment on these.

I recommend contacting OFQUAL directly for information regarding how qualifications within the UK compare to one another.

        I hope this helps,

        UK NARIC

  151. Dear
I came to the UK since 2009 as asylum seeker I’ve been granted refugee status in 2010, after 5 years I got indefinite leave to remain in 2015, I’m about to apply for citizenship.
My question is about the English language required, actually I had a bachelor degree from Coventry university in the UK, do I have to send my certificate to NARIC confirm this degree been taught in the UK.
home office mentioned in the naturalisation requirement Booklet
THOSE WHO HAVE OBTAINED AN ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION
You will not be required to show a formal speaking and listening qualification if you have
obtained an academic qualification deemed by UK NARIC to meet the recognised
standard of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or PhD in the United Kingdom and either:
    (i) UK NARIC has confirmed that the qualification was taught or researched in
    English; or
(ii) the qualification was taught or researched in the United Kingdom or a majority
English speaking country as listed below (other than Canada).

I’m really confused about do I have to send my degree that from Coventry University to NARIC to confirm its been taught in the UK or just sent it to home office without NARIC confirmation.

    Best regards

    Zaid

    1. Dear Zaid,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

We are unable to comment on specific requirements for visa applications and recommend you contact the Home Office directly for advice. Their contact details can be found here:

      https://www.gov.uk/contact-ukvi/overview

At UK NARIC, however, we do not comment on qualifications awarded by UK institutions. Our remit is to comment on qualifications studied/ awarded overseas.

  152. Hello sir i recently completed my MBA (3.5) years from pakistan. Before that i also have a bacholer degree of (b.Com) 2 years .Can u tell me plz sir i want to assessmof my English language level. Is I submitted my last degree or both of them to assess my english level assessment for uk spouse vis. Thank you in advance😊

    1. Dear Sir,

      Thank you for your message.

We are unable to comment on specific qualifications via social media. Full details of how to apply to UK NARIC for an English Language Assessment (which can assess the level of English to which an overseas degree taught in English was taught) can be found here:

      http://www.naric.org.uk/apply

In order to provide an English Language Assessment, we would require a copy of your final certificates, transcripts/ mark sheets and confirmation that your degree(s) was/were taught solely in English from your university.

You are welcome to submit as many higher education qualifications as you wish for consideration at no additional fee.

      Kind regards,

      UK NARIC

  153. Hi there,
I’m from Pakistan, and I’ve got Masters degree in English language and literature and TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). Just want to know
if I can get both the degrees assessed by you?
Does assessment fee remeins the same?
Do you think my degrees will be equivalent to A2 level as I intend to apply for spouse visa extension?

Kindly reply so that I could send my degrees to you as soon as possible.

    Best regards,

    Shama

    1. Hi Shama,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

You are welcome to submit as many national qualifications as you wish and the fee remains the same; we charge per Statement of Comparability, not per qualification compared. Please note that we are only able to comment on qualifications that form part of the national framework in the country of origin, such as Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Awards such as TEFL certificates are generally not part of the national framework and we are unable to comment on these. You are, however, welcome to submit these with your application and the regional specialist can double-check this for you.

In regards to the outcome of the comparison, we are unable to comment on this via social media. You can call us on (0044) (0)871 330 7033, Monday to Friday (between 9:00am and 5:00pm), to speak to an Information Adviser and they can provide a non-binding verbal comparison which may provide some guidance; the definitive comparison will not be available prior the assessment being completed.

      I hope this information helps,

  154. Hi,

I need to submit the application for “English Language Assessment” in UK NARIC for the Tier-2 (general) work visa from India.

Before that I have some doubts and need clarification on that.

    Questions are

    1. Can I submit scan copy of all my mark sheets instead of transcript along with Degree Certificate and Medium of Instruction letter?

( All my documents – Degree certificate and all mark sheets are already in English and course was in English medium. Course – Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication)

    2. To get the English Language Assessment to be done and get the certification from UK NARIC for the same, do I also need to apply for Statement of Comparability? OR not required it ?

    Please clarify.

    Hoping for the quick reply.

    Thanks.
    Good day!!

    1. Dear Jalpesh,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

We advise you to contact the Home Office directly for confirmation of the exact requirements for your personal visa application.

If you applied for an English Language Assessment with UK NARIC you would be required to present a final certificate, academic transcript/mark sheet (this word is interchangeable) and a separate letter that confirms the medium of instruction of your course was solely in English.

However, you may wish to apply for our new Visa and Nationality service which can be found here http://ecctis.co.uk/visas%20and%20nationality/Default.aspx .This is the new designated service supporting individuals applying for UK visas or for settlement in the UK, provided by UK NARIC on behalf of the Home Office. This is custom-designed for immigration purposes, that confirms your academic qualification level and/or English language proficiency – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route. All the key information required by Home Office UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) case workers is presented clearly.

The new Visas and Nationality service replaces the Home Office UKVI Points-Based Calculator web pages, which went offline on 5 April. The new service is easier to use and helps ensure you get the correct documentation to support your immigration application.

I hope this is of assistance.

  155. Hi
I have got c1 level CEFR in uk naric language assessment. But I need more detailed reply. Whether I can get comparison with Ielts score. If it possible how can apply?

    1. Hi,

Thank you for your comment. UK NARIC assesses the level of English to the CEFR scale; we do not comment on English language proficiency in terms of IELTS scores as these are unique to IELTS.

  156. Hi
I have done 11 exams of ACCA do I still need to get pass English test for applying uk spouse visa.
I have passed F4 uk variant English law exam and F6
U.K. Tax exam from acca and I have also complete ACCA 11 exam out of 14….please let me know so I still need to pass English test for applying uk spouse visa ….

    1. Hi, at UK NARIC we are unable to comment on or provide advice regarding visa and immigration requirements. You would need to contact the Home Office or an Immigration Adviser for information regarding the spouse visa requirements.

The UK NARIC English Language Assessment can only be provided for academic, degree level qualifications that have been studied outside the UK in a non-majority English speaking country; it is not possible to provide an English Language Assessment for professional awards such as ACCA.

      I hope this helps.

  157. Hi Team,

I have completed B.tech(IT) i.e., Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology from “Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, India”. And, it is in English medium.

Is this equivalent to the UK Bachelor degree? or can I go with IELTS for applying Tier 2 General visa?

    Thanks,

    1. Hi, thank you for your comment.

We are not able to comment on specific qualifications via social media. A Statement of Comparability can confirm the level to which your qualification is comparable to in the UK. Full details of this service, and our other services, including how to apply, can be found on our website here.

Please note we are not able to advise on visa and immigration requirements. I would therefore recommend contacting the Home Office/ UKVI or a qualified Immigration Adviser for advice on the requirements for a Tier 2 General Visa.

      1. Dear NARIC,

I’ve completed my masters (MCA) in Anna University, Chennai, India. Which was in English. I’m being sponsored Tier 2 General visa from an UK firm, but to be eligible I either have to write IELTS or get at least get B1 in CERF. I have all the certificates but no transcripts. What is the service I need to chose to get my degree validated by NARIC? Transcripts or mandatory ? Final certificate is enough to upload or do I need to upload all semester certificates including provisional and final marks sheet as well? Awaiting your response . Thanks in advance.

      2. Hi,

We are unable to advise on which service you may require for a visa application; I would recommend contacting the Home Office/UKVI or an Immigration Adviser for information. For us to comment on a qualification, we do require full academic transcripts alongside a copy of the final certificate. To comment on the level of English, we also require a separate medium of instruction letter confirming that the degree was taught and researched solely in English.

      3. What service from NARIC I should be taking to validate my masters. Which service can validate my certificate and give a report whether it suffice B1 in CERF? Please advice

  158. Dear Team,

Can you please let me know if i provide the following docs for NARIC? Required for English assessment (Tier 2 General Visa)
    a) Final Degree (From Anna university)
    b) Marksheets

Do we need separate Medium of Instruction certificate? My degree certificate is in English

    1. Hi, in order to comment on the level of English for a qualification, we do require a separate medium of instruction letter confirming that the course was taught and researched solely in English.

      1. I reside in India, VAT is applicable to me while dequestinf statements of comparability and English assessment ?

  159. Dear NARIC UK,
I am going to apply for Tier 2 General visa.
I’ll need a English Language Assessment for my foreign degree (bachelor+master+PhD degree). My questions are,
    1. do i need a Statement of Comparability before I get my ELA? or
    2. I must apply for Statemenf of Comparability and ELA together? or
    3. go for Visas and Nationality service ? what’s the difference?

    Thanks.

    Ho

    1. Dear Ho,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

We are unable to advise which of our services you may required for your personal visa application and recommend you check with the Home Office or a qualified Immigration Adviser for further information.

Full details about all our services can be found on our website here.

The new VisasAndNationality service replaces the Home Office UKVI Points-Based Calculator web pages. This is the new designated service supporting individuals applying for UK visas or for settlement in the UK, provided by UK NARIC on behalf of the Home Office.

  160. Dear NARIC,

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Regards,
    HE

    1. Hi, in order to apply for an English Language Assessment (ELA) we require a copy of your final certificate, mark sheets/ transcripts and confirmation the degree was taught solely in English. We do not require a Statement of Comparability to be submitted.

  161. Hello

    1. Hi, the role of UK NARIC is to comment on overseas qualifications only; we do not comment on UK qualifications and these should be presented directly to the Home Office for their consideration.

      I hope this helps.

      UK NARIC

  162. Dear Team,
As i’m going to apply for an ILR, need to prove my english skill for this.
Can you please let me know if i submit the following documents to NARIC online, would that be enough to obtain language certificate?

    1) Degree Certificate (From Anna University)
    2) Consolidated Mark sheet (where the medium of instruction is mentioned in the bottom as English)

Please let me know if i still need to submit a separate Medium of Instruction certificate from the university?

PS : All my certificates are in English

    Many Thanks,
    Siva

      1. Dear Team,

Many Thanks for your prompted reply. Just a couple of more clarification – Should i get this letter from my College or my University as both are different in my case? I done my master degree in a College, but the college is affiliated by an University. Also, should i get this certificate for my master degree alone or should i get it for my bachelor and master both ? Thanks Again.

        Kind Regards,
        Siva

      2. Dear Siva,

        Thank you for your message.

Providing the document shows affiliation to the University a letter from the college should suffice.

        Kind regards

        UK NARIC

  163. Dear Sir,

I have level 7 diploma in Strategic Leadership and Executive Management from Institute of Leadership and Management, UK.
I have applied for postgraduate programme in the UK and I need to meet the minimum requirements for the English language.

Please, I wish to know if the level 7 diploma certificate could be used to process an exemption for the English language.

    1. Dear Emmanuel,

      Thank you for your comment.

As this is a UK award we are unable to comment on this in regards to your level of English proficiency. The service that we provide is based on international qualifications that have been taught solely in English. The institution who you are applying to will use their discretion if you meet their specific entry requirements.

      I hope this helps.

      UK NARIC

  164. Hi,
    I am from Sri Lanka.
I wish to apply for a tier 2 visa and have few concerns regards to proof of English Knowledge for entry clearance. Glad if you could advice me on this.
First my IELTS has been expired on last February and I am just wondering is it possible to use NARIC service instead of repeating the same exam as the UK visa portal guide.
My Bachelor was done in Chemistry and Post grad(Masters) was in Physics. Both were taught in English medium.

I need to know whether its possible to get a fast track service for ELA for Bachelors and post grad certificate. What are the required documents.

Second do I need to get a comparability certificate since my sponsoring university are satisfied.

If so is there a fast track service for both services and what would be the cost.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks in advance.

    Best Regards,
    deelan

    1. Thank you for your comment Deelan.

We would be unable to comment directly on the requirements of your specific visa. However, we offer a service called the Visas and Nationality statement via our ‘red route’ that has been tailored for Visa applications. Based on your immigration tier and route we can provide you with a document that will confirm the comparability of your award and if applicable the English proficiency. In order to complete this service we require a final certificate, academic transcript and a medium of instruction letter from the awarding institution that confirms the degree course has been taught solely in English. This service is completed within ten working days but there is no fast track facility available. Further information regarding this service can be found here : http://ecctis.co.uk/visas%20and%20nationality/Default.aspx

      I hope this helps.

  165. Dear Sir/Madam,

I am from Turkey, applying for Tier 2 Visa. I studied my Bachelor’s degree in Spain and in Spanish. I have recently finished my PhD in the same university in Spain, which the courses are taught in Spanish again but the research done in English, which I can prove with my written thesis and a letter from my institution. Does written pHD thesis considered for the English Language Assessment?
I really need your advise on that before taking any step forward. Thank you very much.

    Kind Regards.

    1. Thank you for your comment Zehra.

In order to meet the requirements of our English Language Assessment service the entire qualification is required to be taught solely in English. As only part of the course has been taught in English we would be unable to offer the service to you. The alternative option would be to sit a secure English test, approved test centres can be found on the Home Office website.

      I hope this helps.

      UK NARIC

  166. Dear Team,

As a part of my ILR process, i need to submit an English assessment certificate from Nardic. I am applying for this online now and understand that i have to add my undergraduate and postgraduate details as mentioned on the site. But, I got medium of instruction certificate only for my postgraduate from the University. Should that be enough? or should i submit medium of Instruction certificate for my Bechalor Degree as well? or Can i add details only of my postgraduate? Thanks for your assistance on this.

    Kind Regards,
    Siva

    1. Thank you for your comment Siva.

For a UK NARIC service we would require a medium of instruction letter for all qualifications that have been presented.

It is our understanding you are only required to submit one of your qualifications for a Home Office purpose. However, we strongly advise you to clarify this with the Home Office directly.

      I hope this helps.

      UK NARIC

  167. Hi,

I am going to apply for ILR. What service should i selected in the naric online site? Few of my friends used combined services of Statement of Comparability and English Language Assessment Visa, their visa was processed successfully in Home Office. But when i go through Naric web site, i see ‘Nationality service’ was more appropriate for Visa and Settlement. Please let me know which one is correct, both charges different amount as well. Can i use the combined services of Statement of Comparability and English Language Assessment Visa?

    Thanks,
    Sri

    1. Thank you for comment Siva.

The Visa and Nationality service via our ‘red route’ is the recommended route for all visa purposes. However, it is our understanding you can present a Statement of Comparability and English Language Assessment via our ‘blue route’ to the Home Office for a grace period. The duration of this grace period will need to be confirmed via the Home Office directly.

      I hope this helps.

  168. Hi,
I have a query, Naric has completed my degree assessment and sent the document bu courier but I have not recived yer. I also provided fax details, Naric has sent fax but couldn’t receive.
I have 6 band in IELTS and got TRF and waiting for NARIC degree assessment document but not sure when I will have this since I opted standard air-mail.
So should I write the application and add the NARIC reference ID and assesment of my degree while applying for Tier 2, will it be ok?
My degree assessment is ‘Comparable to Britisg Bachelors (Hon) degree standard’, I got the message from NARIC.
    Please let me know.

  169. Dear Team,

As i’m going to apply for Tier 2 General Visa, need to prove my english skill for this. I have completed B.E [Bachelor Of Engineering in Computer Science] 4 years graduation from the college which has affiliated to Anna University, Chennai.

Could you please let me know what are all the certificates should I need to apply with UK NARIC? [As I see many types of services available in UK NARIC website]

and Could you please let me know if i submit the following documents to NARIC online, would that be enough to obtain language certificate?

    1. Degree Certificate (From Anna University)

    2. Consolidated Mark sheet (where the medium of instruction is mentioned in the bottom as English)
    3. Medium Of Instruction Letter from Anna University. [Applied for it and waiting for this letter to reach my address]

PS : All my certificates are in English

    Thanks,
    Manila

    1. Dear Manila,

      Thank you for your comment.

The Visas and Nationality service via our ‘red route’ is the recommended route for all visa purposes as this is the designated service supporting individuals applying for UK visas or for settlement in the UK, provided by UK NARIC on behalf of the Home Office. Based on your immigration tier and route we can provide you with a document that will confirm the comparability of your award and if applicable the English proficiency. In order to complete this service we require a final certificate, academic transcript and a medium of instruction letter from the awarding institution that confirms the degree course has been taught solely in English. Please note that we can only assess qualifications that have been completed. If you are still studying for your PhD at the time of the application, we would not be able to assess this as the qualification is incomplete.

If you would like to use our services you can call us on (0044) (0)871 330 7033, Monday to Friday (between 9:00am and 5:00pm), to speak to an Information Adviser and they will be happy to discuss this with you further. Detailed information on our services and the various steps to take can also be found here:

      I hope this helps.

  170. Hello,

I’ve done my masters from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh and I want to start my further study in the UK. I’m in the UK at this moment with dependent visa.
Does NARIC ELA or SoC help me to get admission in any university without IELTS? Actually, I’m looking for a scholarship, how ELA or SoC help in this case?

    1. Dear Samiha,

      Thank you for your comment.

Each institution in the UK is autonomous and sets their own entry requirements to gain access to further study. Our advice would be to contact the admissions department of the University you would like to join and they will provide you with further information. You may be requested to provide a comparison of the qualification to the UK framework, this is where UK NARIC can assist further. Our service, the Statement of Comparability, can confirm this for you. Further details can be found on our website: https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/

Please be advised UK NARIC Visas and Nationality is the new designated service supporting individuals applying for UK visas or for settlement in the UK, provided on behalf of the Home Office, United Kingdom Visas and Immigration (UKVI).

This new online application system has been specifically developed and will provide official UK NARIC Visas and Nationality statements, custom-designed for immigration purposes. These statements confirm your academic qualification level and/or English language proficiency – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route.

We recommend that you check with the Home Office UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) if you need a statement from UK NARIC for your particular immigration application and your particular situation (and if any additional paperwork or evidence is necessary). UKVI (and not UK NARIC) has the final word on all these matters.

Whilst we would recommend the Visa and Nationality red route, you are still able to use the blue work and study route and order the Statement of Comparability and English Language Assessment. It is to our understanding there will be a grace period where the Home office will still be accepting these assessments, however you may wish to contact the Home Office directly for further clarity.

I hope this information is of assistance to you.

      Kind regards,
      UK NARIC

  171. Hello,

I am applying for Tier 2 General and would like to know if I need the English Language Assessment or Statement of Comparability or both?

    Thanks,
    Ramya

    1. Dear Ramya

      Thank you for your enquiry.

The new security-enhanced statements present clearly all the key information regarding your qualification(s)(about your qualifications, country of study etc) required by UKVI immigration case workers.

Whilst we would recommend the Visa and Nationality red route, you are still able to use the blue work and study route and order the English Language Assessment.

It is to our understanding there will be a grace period where the Home office will still be accepting these assessments, however you may wish to contact the Home Office directly for further clarity.

I hope this is of assistance.

      Kind regards,

      UK NARIC

  172. I hold Advance Diploma in Management Accounting from CIMA UK, which is Considered comparable to QCF Level 6 standard, that is bachelor degree. Can i obtain HEC Pakistan equivalence letter for admission in masters program in Pakistani universities on the basis of UK Naric letter of equivalence?

    1. Dear Jhunkar,

      Thank you for your comment.

The Statement of Comparability that we provide is designed to be used here in the UK. We are unsure if you can obtain an equivalence letter from the HEC Pakistan to help you gain admission onto a master degree programme. We advise you to contact the institution directly to ascertain their specific entry requirements.

      Kind regards

  173. I have a B.Com. degree with English as one of the subjects in first year (entire degree taught in English with all the certificates and transcripts in English), M.A. English degree and M.Phil English degree (obviously taught in English). Do I still need the medium of instruction certificate? I am applying to join my family in UK.

    1. Hi Sumit,

If you require a service which comments on English language you will always be required to provide a Medium of Instruction letter. You can contact the Awarding Institution directly and request this document. The letter needs to be presented in an official letter format. We require evidence of the medium of instruction of your degree from the university’s central administration unit / registry. Please follow this link to find a link of an example of a Medium of Instruction Letter https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/English%20Language%20Assessment.aspx

I hope this is of assistance to you.

      Thanks,
      UK NARIC

  174. Dear Sir/Madam,

I am from Egypt, applying for Tier 2 Visa. I studied my Bachelor and Master degree in Egypt, they were in Arabic and English (for Master research). In 2013, I have got my PhD (April 2010 to July 2013 ) from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany. The PhD degree was fully researched in English and I have a certificate stated that “The thesis and its related scientific publications, as well as the examination were held in English”. However, there was no courses offered for PhD degree neither in English nor German. So, the degree was entirely done in English”. My Question, My PhD degree considered for the English Language Assessment?

    I really need your advise.
    Thank you very much.

    Kind Regards.

  175. Hello, I have a PhD from a French university (Rennes 1) in which my research was conducted entirely in English. I have also an Engineering degree in electronics and telecommunication from a Lebanese University where the courses were taught in English. I can provide a Certificate and Medium of Instruction Letter in both cases. Am I guaranteed to get a statement to confirm that my English language ability is comparable to at least the standards of CEFR B1 ?

  176. Hello
I am applying for my Tier 2 General VISA. For the english language assessment, I understand that I should provide my degree certificate together with final transcripts and a medium of instruction letter from my University.

My final transcripts(consolidated marksheets and individual semester marksheets) give the marks and grades in percentage scores instead of cgpa scores. Will this transcript be considered for meeting the UK Tier 2 requirements?

    Thanks
    Viswanathan

    1. Hi Viswanathan,
      Thank you for the message.
The Visas and Nationality Service costs £125 + VAT (£150) and is a 10 Working Day turnaround. These statements confirm your Academic Qualification Level (AQUALS) and/or English Language Proficiency (ELPS) – as appropriate for your personal circumstances and immigration route.
To meet the requirements for UK NARIC to be able to provide an English Language Assessment you must hold a degree of Bachelors, Masters or Phd level from an overseas institution that was solely taught in the medium of English.
Please visit our website and Take the Red Route for Visas and Nationality to apply for this service.
We will require the following documents for each of the qualifications you would like to be included:
      • Final Certificate
      • Full Academic Transcripts / Mark Sheets for each year of study
      • A Medium of Instruction Letter from the Awarding Institution confirming it was taught solely in English
      Regards,
      UK NARIC

  177. Hi,

I want to apply for British citizenship. I am studying CIMA in the UK and have got Advanced Diploma In management Accounting which is considered comparable to QCF Level 7 standard as per NARIC website. Could you please advise if this Diploma is enough to prove my knowledge of English?

    Regards,
    Elena

    1. Hi Elena,
      Thanks for your comment.
Unfortunately, to prove your English ability you need either a Bachelor, Master, or PhD. As your degree is from the UK, you don’t need any UK NARIC services, but we would recommend sitting an IELTS test to prove your English language ability.
      I hope this helps,
      UK NARIC
