How a UK NARIC Statement of Comparability can help

Please note that since this article has been published immigration guidance has changed. Please see our post UK NARIC’s Visas and Nationality Service launches on 6 April which contains more up-to-date information.

Every year we get contacted by tens of thousands of individuals and thousands of organisations about Statements of Comparability; but what are they and how can they help?

In basic terms a Statement of Comparability (SoC) is an officially recognised document that confirms the recognition of overseas academic, vocational and/or professional qualifications and the comparable level in the UK.

Who uses them?

Any individual  coming to the UK to work or study should really get a SoC.  It ensures that an individual’s qualifications are understood.  SoCs are a key tool in facilitating mobility.  The recognition given by UK NARIC helps assure quality associated with an award and safeguard standards.

So, this document is pretty important.

As stated above tens of thousands of individuals use UK NARIC to obtain SoCs and the requests come from across the globe.  The table below shows the top ten countries over the past year:

And the chart below shows the range of reasons behind applications:

Why do these individuals use them?

We have conducted a survey into why people are using our service and the main reason as to why they were applying for a SoC was to enhance their application.

The comments made in the survey also back this up:

  • To improve chances of future employment in the UK
  • For better career options
  • To become a nurse
  • Entry for sixth form college
  • To make sure my degree was equivalent to UK degree, so that I don’t have to do another degree programme
  • Employment in (the) UK
  • Study and use it for proof for other jobs
  • For immigration to (the) UK*
  • To study, to register and to find a job
  • For Immigration* & Employment in future

Where can they be used?

All sorts of organisations use UK NARIC’s assessments as part of their day-to-day work.  Universities, colleges, Blue Chip employers, immigration consultants, careers advisors and professional bodies all use the information and data we provide.  If an individual with qualifications from outside the UK is applying to any of these types of organisation then a SoC could be helpful.  It can also support applications made under the Points Based System for immigration to the UK*.

More info?

More information about the Statement of Comparability can be found on the UK NARIC website.

You can apply online and information about what documents you need to send are also explained in the Coming to the UK section of the site.

  13. Hello

I sent my application to you for getting my qualifications compared to the UK standard…I got the response that my Master’s degree is comparable to British master’s degree but my teaching qualification (Bachelor in Education) got the following response ‘The above is a one year full time course of teacher education. Whilst it is of no further academic standing than the preceding Bachelor degree, we can confirm that holders of this award are entitled to teach at the lower secondary level in India. UK NARIC certificate not offered this award’ The above statement doesn’t give me any clear understanding of the status of my qualification. Can you please suggest what should be done further to improve my prospects of being a teacher in the UK?

    1. Hi

The first thing I need to point out is that the assessment is correct: we do not provide comparability for the BEd qualifications from India, but we do confirm the professional rights attached to it (in India). I would suggest that you should contact the Teaching Agency on 0800 389 2500 or visit http://www.education.gov.uk/teachregister as they are the body who can help you become a teacher in the UK.

      Good luck!

  14. Hello

  15. İ was graduated from baskent university, department of physical therapy and rehabilitation. But i couldn’t find our universities comporability. Can you help me?

  16. Just wanted to ask why SSSC dont acknowledge NARIC UK? In terms of comparability.Im a 4 years BSNursing graduate from the philippines.SSSC wants me to take up svq 3 in order for me to be registered with them.

    1. The Scottish Social Services Council are responsible for registering people who work in social services and regulating their education and training in Scotland. They also register key groups of Scotland’s social service workers. They do use UK NARIC’s services, but I understand that they have particular requirements for those that they register to work in this sector.

It might be best to speak directly to the SSSC about why they feel that it is necessary to undertake further training before registering with them.

  17. Hello I had received my statement of Comparability.but I really would like to know the translation said Naric confirm that a diploma of higher Education falls on the same level of the National Qualifications Frame work as N/SVQ LEVEL 4. Will this Level 4 also appear on the Certificate, or it will just say up to N/SVQ Standard??
    Pleas Please reply me !!!

    1. Hello Catherine,
Please be advised, the Certificate of Comparability confers no greater authority than the Statement that you have already received. Nor does it contain any additional information. In fact the additional information included on your Statement of Comparability will not appear on the Certificate, and if you need to demonstrate the comparison of your qualification in relation to an N/SVQ standard, we would suggest presenting your Statement of Comparability directly to the institute/body to which you are applying.

I hope this information is of assistance to you. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

      Kind regards,

      UK NARIC

  18. hi, in 2008 I did UK Naric comparison for my Lithuanian teachers certificate, I got a response, which said I had NVQ level 4, but I find it difficult to start work with it, is there any information that can help me to get job with it?
    thanks

  19. I received a response for my PGDE from Hong Kong saying it was comparable to the PGDE British standard.

Then the additional information said : Can teach in Hong Kong.

What does this mean? Does it mean that I cannot teach in the UK? The UK requires an additional part where you have to gain QTS, so does this mean, I can now go ahead and get QTS under the OTTP? (Overseas teachers training programme)?

      1. hello my name is mrs khaliq i have done primary teachers course and also civil defence course and also i have done graduation in history islamic study and english.i was teacher in pakistan for three year in govt primery school.can you tell me what my qualification equlent in english what further qualification to become a teacher

  20. I have done master in applied psychology from Pakistan. What’s the equivalent of my edu in uk? I need to study further

    1. Pakistan has a large and complex education system. Comparing qualifications from Pakistan to the UK’s frameworks considers a lot of differenet elements; the institution, the subject studied, when the qualification was awarded, the grade etc. Therefore it is probably best to get in touch with us on +44 (0)871 330 7033 to discuss your qualification and then you’ll be able to make the best decision about your next steps.

      1. I have done MBA from GIFT University Pakistan what is equivalent of my educational qualification in uk .. I need to apply for british citizenship in near future and i have a plan to do teaching in uk

      2. Unfortunately we are not able to discuss individual qualifications in a public forum, such as this however I would recommend that you contact our information team to discuss your case further on t: +44 871 330 7033, Office hours: Monday to Friday, 09.00 – 17.00 (UK time), or if you prefer email: communications@naric.org.uk

  21. Hi!

I am willing to apply in one of the teaching courses in UK. I already have a statement of comparability from you which says that my Masters Degree from Pakistan is equivalent to Bachelors degree in UK. I have 74% marks in that degree, will this be equivalent to 2:1 (upper second) or what?

    1. Due to disparities in the mode of study, grading, teaching, assessment systems and content, it is not possible to convert grades from one system to another. The interpretation of grades and determination of degree classifications – where appropriate – is carried out by admitting institutions / employers in the UK in the context of the system in which that award was obtained.

      1. But UK NARIC mostly cheating with Pakistani degree holder students if 2 students applied for comparability if both have degree same institute and same department they are giving comparability one students and other rejected shame on this decision of UK NARIC

  22. Respected Sir,

    ASA

hope that this message finds you fine and in good health. sir, i have completed my BSC (Hons) with 360 credits and 3 years of duration while MSc with 180 credit hours and of 1 year duration, both from the university of bedfordshire, UK {UK standard Qualification}. now i am applying for PhD studies in Pakistan but the university is refusing my application due to the duration of my studies. it is imperative to mention here that although the duration of my studies is less but the earned credit hours are enough for me to get admission in PhD studies. please advice me appropriately. i will be thankful for your immediate reply

    1. Thanks for the query and we’re sorry to hear of the difficulties you are facing. Sadly, there is nothing that we can do in this instance: we can only provide assessment of overseas awards coming into the UK; whether an overseas university accepts British awards is a different matter. It might be worth contacting the University of Bedfordshire to see if there is anything they can issue that will help your case. Good luck.

  23. Hi,
I have a degree from Marmara University Istanbul Turkey.
    Faculty of Tchnical Education
    Subject is Electrical Educatiion

Is Marmara University on the comparable level in UK?
    Many thanks
    Melis

    1. Marmara University, Turkey, is a recognised HEI so a degree from there would be accepted by UK NARIC for the purpose of a Statement of Comparability. If you are interested in this service, details on how to apply can be found at http://www.naric.org.uk

      1. Thank you so much for your quick responds.
        I applied for that.
        Many thanks
        Melis

  24. Hi, I am currently teaching in India. I have competed my Bachelors of Education (B.Ed) which is the basic prerequisite in India for teaching professionals. I have completed my graduation and post graduation in M.A English from Indian universities. I would now like to teach in the U.K so wanted to know as to how far my qualifications are useful as per the norms in the U.K and what further qualifications or exams do I need to give to be able to be a part of the teaching fraternity in the U.K.

    1. In order to enter the teaching profession in the UK, the people you would need to speak to is the Teaching Agency https://www.education.gov.uk/help/contactus They will be able to help you with queries regarding requirements and what you need to do next. As you hold awards that were gained outside of the UK, they will most likely expect you to present evidence of comparability- this is where UK NARIC can help. If this is the case, we suggest you apply for the Statement of Comparability http://bit.ly/XrMrXO and send your Standard X and XII, Bachelor degrees (BA and BEd) and Master’s.

  25. I just wished to just take a few minutes and inform you that I appreciated the post.
I genuinely don’t believe that most people know exactly how much hard work that goes into putting together a webpage. I know this will be kind of random nevertheless it really bugs me sometimes. Nonetheless fantastic website.

  26. My wife is a German National. we intend on returning to the UK soon. She has multiple German qualifications. My question is, how are these charged for a SoC? One charge per individual qualification or one charge per application including multiple seperate qualifications?

  27. Hi,
I completed High School (four- year general lyceum) in Poland and after that I passed maturity examination and I obtained Maturity Certificate (equivalent to full A-Level in UK) which gives me the entrance to higher education.
I also completed two-year Post-High School College of Information Technology(IT) (non-university level education),I passed an examination and I awarded the title Computer Science Technician.
Could somebody tell me please, what’s the equivalent of my education in UK?I would like to continue studying in UK.Thank you.

    1. Hi Mark, if you would like us to discuss the comparability of your awards then you’d need to call us on +44 (0)871 330 7033 as we can’t confirm comparability in writing (plus we’d need a bit more detail).

  28. hello my name is mrs asad i have done graduation in psychology economics and english from punjab uni of pakistan can you tell me what my qualification equlent in english what further qualification i need for a bachelor degree. And according to my education now what kind of jobs i can get in uk.

    1. We’d need more details in order to provide comparability, it is probably best if you call us on +44(0)871 330 7033 to discuss your qualification. As far as finding employment is concerned, it would depend upon what sort of job you are looking for. It is not really our role to advise which jobs to apply for but a Career Path Report might help you (http://bit.ly/YTzY3C). First of all, however, obtaining UK NARIC comparability so that potential employers understand what she has and what you can offer would be advisable.

  29. Hi,

Pls let me know , what are all documents are required to get a qualification compatibility report for graduation, is it required to submit confidentiality report for my academic institutions also.

How to apply for it & how long it takes to get the report.

    Thanx in advance.

    Pal

    1. All details are available on the NARIC website, but in essence it’s a 10 to 15 working day process that requires the final certificate and transcript (together with English translations, where necessary) for each award submitted. Please see http://bit.ly/UiGPfl for details on our services.

  30. Hi.

One of friend with AMIE India has not been permitted to have British Bachelor (Honors) Degree in Engineering level certificate issued by NARIC,UK. He got got British bachelors (ordinary) comparability from Uk Naric.

where as earlier so many applicant who had passed the same degree from same institution (Institution of Engineers india) had got British Bachelor (Honors) Degree in Engineering level certificate.

Request you to throw some light on the subject & clear the contradiction.

    regards,

    Pal
    India

    1. The UK NARIC service looks at qualifications from end of compulsory education right up to PhD level from over 180 countries worldwide. In order to keep up to date on developments and changes on education systems, we have a rolling Information Development Plan (IDP) that reviews countries on a priority basis. When reviewing countries, it is possible that new information / evidence comes to light as a result of our research which may, in turn, affect how we assess a particular award. We cannot afford to do a piece of work and assume that it is correct forever more- it is vital that we revisit information and carry out research to ensure the credibility and accuracy of our data. For this reason, it is possible that assessments will change over time. Whilst we understand that it may be disappointing, it is sometimes the case that assessments are ‘lowered’ as a result of our research (of course, the reverse may be true and assessments may be ‘upgraded’). Effectively, our work is organic insofar as it is prone to change- our information is only ever for guidance based on a set of criteria that apply to all our assessments and is not an authoritative ruling. The decision to admit an applicant remains with the admitting institution / potential employer who make take other factors into consideration.

  31. Damn I did’nt know this was possible . Thanks im definitely gonna enquire further in regards to my Fiji qualifications-D

  32. Hi,
I got HND(higher National Diploma) in computer science in Nigeria, can i use it in Uk,since they require a degree certificate in the Early years teaching program i want to apply.

    thank you.
    Chioma

    1. You can check the level of your qualification by giving us a call on 0044 (0)871 330 7033. We will be able to confirm the level in the UK. It is up to individual institutions to decide on whether you meet their entry criteria. It might be worthwhile checking the GTTR website (www.gttr.ac.uk) and the Department for Education site (www.education.gov.uk/get-into-teaching)

  33. Hi
I have a four years Bachelors in business administration finance BBA(honours) degree from a very renouned university in Pakistan…A few days back I sent my qualifications for comparability to NARIC and I got a reply that my degree was equal to a diploma in higher education..my concern is that my friends with the same degree from the same university got into prestigious universities of England and their degree was recognised as full bachelors degree so then why is mine equivalent to just a diploma…

  34. Hi, I just want to find out roughly (before I send in my documents to NARIC) if my degree/ qualifications in the Philippines equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in UK? I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Lyceum of the Philippines, I am also a registered and licensed Secondary Education Teacher. I have over seven years teaching experience in international schools in China, teaching IGCSE, AS-A Level History. I passed my TOEFL IBT with a grade equivalent to CEFR1-2. I am married to a British citizen and planning to join him in UK soon. I am also thinking of getting some teaching trainings or courses in UK so I can eventually get qualified as a UK teacher. What is the best route for me to take? I appreciate your help and advice. I look forward to your reply.

    1. Bachelor degree comparability for awards obtained in the Philippines can vary markedly, due to the system of ‘Prestigious Universities’ and ‘Centres of Excellence’ that is in place there. It would be best, if possible, to contact us by telephone on +44 (0)871 330 7033 so that an Information Advisor can take the details of your award / university and provide verbal comparability. This would allow you to know, up front, what the assessment of your award will be before you apply (should you choose to do so). With regards to TOEFL, if you need evidence that your proficiency meets CEFR C1, we can help here too. This is a separate service called the English Language Assessment, details of which can be found at http://bit.ly/VDVmmB

  35. Hi,

Just wanted to find out how do you classify prestigious universities in other countries? I am surprised that my university was not included and we always have topnotchers and 100% passing percentage of exam takers in the national board exam. Is there anything that the West Visayas State University lacking in the curriculum that the degree awarded in the Philippines is only compared foundation degree as opposed to the other universities earning an ordinary degree without honours? Hoping to hear from you soon. Many thanks.

    1. The UK NARIC assessment service applies a set of criteria in the comparability process. In addition to entry requirement, duration, purpose of qualification and progression route, another factor is the status of the awarding institution. For the vast majority of countries that we hold data on, the ‘status of the institution’ extends no further than suitable recognition within the home country. However, in the instance of the Philippines, an official ranking is in place meaning that institutions cannot be treated the same across the board. Certain institutions are officially considered ‘prestigious institutions’ or ‘centres of excellence’- this is not the case for West Visayas State University. Whilst we are not trying to detract from the strong reputation of West Visayas State University within the Philippines and indeed beyond, as we do not have evidence that this is a prestigious university or centre of excellence it cannot be treated as such which, in turn, may affect comparability.

      1. Hi, thanks for the reply. I just wanted to find out if the records of prestigious universities listed in your system is being updated annually. As far as I know WVSU has been on the top performing schools many many years back before I graduated. May I know where do you obtain the list of prestigious universities.
I have attached the current results of top performing school or perhaps if you want further more information, here is the link , http://inquirer.net
MANILA, Philippines – A total of 16,219 out of 37,887 passed the Nurse Licensure Examination held from June 2-3, 2013, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) said on Monday.
Velez College graduate Beverly Anne Felicio Balagon topped the exam, receiving a score of 87 percent.
University of Santo Tomas (UST) graduate Jamila Jane Uy Borlagdan and West Visayas State University-La Paz graduate Mylene Grace Dacula Gonzaga shared the second spot, both with a score of 86.80 percent in the exam.
Three schools shared the top spot in the list of 10 performing schools in this year’s examination: the West Visayas State University-La Paz, Cebu Normal University (Cebu State College), and University of the Philippines-Manila. All three had a passing rate of 100 percent, the PRC said.
The rest of the top performing schools were Chinese General Hospital Colleges, Benguet State University-La Trinidad, University of Santo Tomas, Trinity University of Asia (Trinity-QC), Saint Paul University-Dumaguete, Xavier University, Velez College, Cebu City Medical Center (CC Gen. Hosp.), and Saint Paul University-Manila.

      2. Hi, our information management system is available on the UK NARIC website (http://www.ecctis.co.uk/naric/Individuals/Code%20of%20Practice/default.aspx), but it seems that this query is about your own assessment and rather than discuss it is this public forum it might be best to contact us in 4400(0)871 330 7033 to discuss the issues you raise here.

If you are not happy with the assessment you have received you can always ask for a reassessment (http://www.ecctis.co.uk/naric/Code%20of%20Practice/Application%20Procedures.aspx).

        Hope this helps.

      3. Thank you for the reply. But I still couldn’t understand. Does this mean that the comparability that the NARIC has provided is based on the instiitution that has been known prestigious regardless of the educational attainment, curriculum of the university and the qualifications we have provided?
I have attached the current top performing schools in the country and have actually got a list of prestigious universities you have in your system ( this list was from 3 years ago) and to my surprise two or more on the list were not even on the list of top performing schools plus they have a low passing percentage of examinees in the National Nursing Board exam. I just feel that the standards set for comparing the educational attainment needs to be more of the curriculum and how the universities produced good quality of Nurses rather than the impression of being “prestigious”. The word prestigious can be misleading as I believe that some of them were classified prestigious because they pay higher tuition fees or you cannot enroll because of your socio-economic status.

Here is the link – http://www.prcboardnews.com/2013/07/top-10-performing-schools-performance-of-schools-june-2013-nle-nursing-board-exam.html

Hoping this will be taken into consideration accordingly. Many thanks.

        Kind regards,

        Trish

  36. Hi,

I wanted to know how many credits I’ve earned in total from my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree gained from a four year course in the Philippines, and how many credits do people get in completing degree in Nursing in the UK.
I was told that my BSNursing degree (which I did for four years, and passed a licensure exam on top of it in order to become a full pledge/certified/legally allowed to practice nurse in the Philippines) does not compare to an undergraduate nursing degree here in the UK which is only of 3 years course without any licensure examination. Moreover, I had to do top up courses for my qualification to be considered equal to a UK nursing degree. Is this information correct?
Skillswise and in terms of nursing/medical/pharmacological knowledge the Philippine nurses have, I am quite doubtful that our qualification is considered less than that of UK nursing degree wherein from my experience and observation newly qualified staff nurse have not even cannulated, performed NGT insertion, cathetherise, use medical/technical terms, use a glucometer, use a manual BP apparatus, make a comprehensive nursing care plan, interpret basic ECG readings, and so many things to mention.

In addition to my query, I’d like to know if I need to include my highschool qualification in my UK Naric application if my purpose is further studies or professional employment.

Do I need to add any qualifications gained in the UK?

Do I need to include my Overseas Nurses programme/adaptation course wwhich I completed in order to be registered with NMC to practice nursing in the UK?
This is a 15 credit course; will it add up to the credits I gained from my overseas nuring qualification?

Thank you very much for your anticipated response.

    Jb

    1. Thanks for your comments. Firstly, it should be pointed out that if you have questions relating to an assessment you’d need to follow the UK NARIC clarification procedure- details can be found at https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/Code%20of%20Practice/Application%20Procedures.aspx. What we can say is that although duration is a criterion used in the assessment process, it is not a determining factor. A Bachelor degree in the UK may indeed last three years, but equally it may be four or five yet the end result would be the same: a Bachelor degree is a Bachelor degree, irrespective of duration. UK NARIC assessments are limited to the academic comparability of an overseas award- professional competencies are not an area we assess, so your eligibility / suitability to practise this profession in the UK would be the domain of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, not UK NARIC.

The UK NARIC Statement of Comparability may include as many nationally-recognised awards as you chose to send- the fee is per applicant, not per qualification. Therefore, if you were to make an application, you could send both your BSC (Nursing) and High School Diploma under the same enquiry number.

      We hope this helps.

  37. Hello Dear,
I got Diplôme d’Ingénieur (Engineer Degree) in Electronics with 300 ECTS credits 05 years of duration from Algerian “Grande Ecole” (Polytechnic School of Algiers) in Algeria.
I wish to come to the UK to work
Can UK NARIC provide comparability ?
I want to know if my degree’llbe accepted by UK NARIC for the purpose of a Statement of Comparability.
    Best Regards

  38. Hello!

I am from Brazil, and I have a Technologist undergraduate. I’ve been researching and Technologist, that is a very common undergraduate in Brazil, doesn’t exists in UK. The “Associates Degrees” are not exactly the same, since my education was consist in 3 years and not 2 years.
There is a equivalent for this title in UK? Should I submit the form and certificate to a better evaluation?
I am concern that it would not be a graduation degree (or undergraduation as call in UK).

    Thanks.

    1. It sounds like an award we are aware of so we can provide assessment. The best thing to do would be to make an application for an SoC, and if you want to know up front what this will compare with, then you could call us and we’ll help you over the phone.

  39. Hello,

I’m finishing my degree at University of Ljubljana – Faculty of Computer and Information Science, from Slovenia, EU.

Official title that will go with my education will be:
Univerzitetni diplomirani inženir računalništva in informatike
which is usually written shorter as:
Uni. dpl. ing. rač. in inf.

It’s a 4,5 years course + additional semester (i.e. term) for writing and defending a diploma. This course is awarded with 300 ECTS points.

I already know the UK NARIC will be able to provide Letter of Comparibility for my education.

    My Question:
What I’d like You ask is whether my degree will be recognised as British Bachelor’s degree or British Master’s degree?

    Best regards.

    1. Hi, I ‘ve already sent an enquiry regarding your classification of prestigious universities and was advised to ring the office as it was thought that it was only my personal concerns.. Unfortunately, i cannot get hold of someone everytime I call. Just for your information there are a few of us who asked for a statement of comparibility and had NVQ level coz we came from the same university. Until now, we cannot still figure out how you classify prestigious universities in the Philippines. We dont get a clear answer on this and maybe if you can help us by giving us the agency in the Philippines that give you the information about prestigious universities and we can make an appeal. Would the Commission on Higher Education be resposible on this? Please let us know. By the way, you asked about the list of Universities who are classified to have degree without honours. Here is the list as of 2009:

      1. Liceo de Cagayan
      2. Saint Louis University
      3. Saint Paul University
      4. San Pedro College
      5. Silliman University
      6. St. Paul’s Iloilo
      7. University of Santo Tomas
      8. University of the Philippines-Manila
      9. Liceo de Cagayan

      Also:

      1. Asian Institute of Management
      2. Ateneo de Manila University
      3. De La Salle University
      4. University of Santo Tomas
      5. University of the Philippines

Hoping to hear from you soon and I believe this will be treated fairly. Many thanks.

      Kind regards,

      Trisch

  40. Hi,

My wife did BA (Bachelor of Art) degree from University of the Punjab Lahore, Pakistan . Can I apply for NARIC Comparability for her degree to meet the home office English requirement for settlement (have a speaking and listening qualification in English at B1 CEFR or higher, or an
    equivalent level qualification)

    thanks,

    Khan

    1. The UK NARIC English Language Assessment was devised to help provide an indication of English language proficiency for Tiers 1 and 2 of the PBS. We have spoken to the UK Home Office about whether it could be used to support an application for settlement and naturalisation in the UK and we are awaiting a reply.

We would therefore advise you to check with the Home Office directly (http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/aboutus/contact/enquiries/).

When we have received an update from the Home office we will publish this information.

  41. My NARIC letter says that my BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) is “Comparable to British Bachelor (Ordinary) degree standard”

What does this really mean? Does it mean that my BDS is comparable to a British BDS degree? If so what does the “ordinary” degree mean?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    1. Hi SH, thanks for the question. The UK NARIC assessment service does not compare to specific degree titles such as BDS, or BA, or LLB, but to a level within the UK national qualification framework (the QCF). It is for this reason that the term ‘standard’ appears in your assessment (standard meaning ‘level’, rather than the other meaning of ‘basic’). In the UK, there are two types of Bachelor degree: (Ordinary) and (Honours). The difference between the two relates to the style of study; (Honours) degrees are typically research based programmes with few ‘contact hours’, meaning students are expected to study subject matter independently before submitting work. There is usually the requirement of a lengthy dissertation based on independent research also. (Ordinary) degrees, on the other hand, involve more contact with lecturers and are not as heavily oriented towards independent research. So the fundamental difference is the style of the degree, not the grade obtained as is often assumed.

If you require more information about this, you could call us and speak to an Information Officer who will be glad to provide further explanation for you.

      1. Hi Naric,
If the difference is just in the style of the degree then how come the bursaries are awarded to honours degrees (when studying PGCE course) but no to an ordinary degree? My 4 year full time teaching degree from a credited university from Serbia hasn’t been given honours equivalent whilst the same university minus one year is now the equivalent. In addition to that the same course in Bosnia and Herzegovina has honours? I must admit I am a tad confused and would very much appreciate some insight.
That said I am aware that Serbian schooling system might not be fully clear and you cant be expected to have in depth knowledge of everything.
To conclude, is it worth me requesting another statement of comparability in hope to have the honours equivalent?
        Thank you
        Dunja

      2. Hi Dunja,

        Thank you for your post,

A UK awarded Honours Degree & Ordinary Degree do sit at the same level in terms of the UK’s Educational framework. However they do represent different methodologies in the delivery of a course.(more details for understanding the Statement of Comparability can be found here: http://bit.ly/1wdtbQc)

Unfortunately, as organisations offering bursaries are autonomous organisation they are free to use their discretion when setting the eligibility requirements for their funding and may determine that they only wish to offer it, for those demonstrating equivalence to an honours degree. However, if you hold an overseas qualification it may be worth contacting the organisation offering the bursary directly for further consideration.

UK NARIC are unable to comment on comparisons for qualifications in a public forum but our records show that your comparison was done back in 2011 and UK NARIC do continually research qualifications and update our database meaning that the levels for an award can change over time. As such you may find it worthwhile submitting it for reassessment and including these concerns as part of the application for us to look into.

Unfortunately, as the window for reassessment of a Statement of Comparability is within 6 months of the original application, this matter would need to be treated as a brand new application. Details including how to apply can be found here: http://bit.ly/XrMrXO.

If however you should have any further enquiries please do not hesitate to get in touch.

  42. Hello!
I have graduated from the University of Athens, Greece from the Department of Early Childhood Education and I want to apply for a SOC in order to find a job. I don’t know what I should write in the cover letter!

  43. Hi, I have just received my Uk naric comparability letter. I have a Bachelor of science in electrical engineering and its been recognised as British Bachelors ordinary degree, can you please tell me am i going to be able to find work as an electrical engineering with this ordinary degree or am I going to have to some kind of course before I can work.

  44. hello!
I got a high school diploma from the Philippines.
what level might I be in if I will take a course here in UK?
    thanks!

    1. We need to know more about the institution you studied at evidence that you completed the qualification.

We don’t discuss individual applications in public forums such as this, so it would probably be best to contact us on communications@naric.org.uk to discuss this further.

More information about applying can be found on the UK NARIC website http://bit.ly/199cnLq

  45. Helloo

I have completed section A and B of AMIE examination from institution of engineers india. Can i get comparability certificate indicating the degree is comparabile to british (honors).

  46. HI
I want to send my qualifications to uk naric.BUT on my graduation degree ,my first name is misspelled. And on post graduate degree bit is right. Could you please let me know will this kind of mistake will effect the decision about the statement of comparability.
    Thanx

    1. Hi Anjaly,

Thanks for the query. If a university has issued a document with a spelling mistake, it is likely that the Information Services team would pick up on this- as you doubtless appreciate, it would be treated as a cause for concern, especially if it’s from an institution whose certificates we see regularly. However, we do also understand that mistakes happen, so it would be best to arrange for the institution to provide confirmation that there is a mistake in their documentation to support your application.

      Best regards,

      UK NARIC

  49. Hello Sir,

I am from Pakistan, but have been living in the UK since two years as married partner of a British citizen. I shall be applying for my ILR in the near future. I have done Masters in English Literature from an internationally recognized university of Pakistan. My question is, if I send my degree to UK NARIC to get a Statement of Comparability and if it is approved, can I then provide the statement as evidence to UKBA in order to fulfill their mandatory requirement to have a listening and speaking qualification in English at B1 CEFR? Earlier I opted for English Language Assessment service and I received the reply that my degree does not meet the requirements of C1 CEFR. I am not aiming for C1 level since UKBA requires proficiency in English only at B1 level. Any reply to my query would be much appreciated.

    Thanks..

  50. Hello. I am from Ukraine. Work as a care in the UK for seven years . Worked as a nurse in Ukraine before came to UK. I studied in nurse college for two years. My english is not very good. I know I need to study English but I don’t know how to start and what to do first. I ‘d like to apply for Statement of Comparability . But how I can find out what english course I should take? Can NARiC give me advice please. Thank you.

    1. Hi Tetyana, thanks for the query. Information on how to study English is outside of what we do, but I’ll try to help as best I can. When it comes to improving your English, there are various options open to you. Possibly the best, assuming it’s convenient for you to do so, would be to contact your local college and see what options are available to you. Another option may be to look at this type of course: http://www.learndirect.com/english/english-and-literacy/free-english-qualification?CMP=ps_neng_cou I hope this helps.

    2. Hi Tetyana, I can give you English lessons via Skype to polish your language skills. I have been living in the UK for 9 years (I am Russian) and I am a language tutor. Your English is not so bad but we can improve your Grammar. What do you think?..

  51. Hello :
I have a Piano Teacher Diploma, and two other Diplomas in music from Argentina, I did send them to Naric to compare them but the answer was that they don’t have the place where I study in their list,….so my question is what am I gonna do in England without a qualification just cos they don’t have it on their list., is there another place where I can compare them ??….please help asap. Thank you.

    1. Hi Wanda, thanks for the query. I’ve had a look for you on our system and can only find a query you submitted several years ago- have you contacted us more recently? I’ve asked around and nobody recalls seeing a piano teacher award from Argentina recently. Having looked at the award that appears on our database, presumably entered by you back in 2010, I can’t help but wonder if this is something we CAN do- but without documents or further details I can’t check. Would you be able to call UK NARIC to discuss this? Our number is 0044 (0)871 330 7033. Many thanks, hope to hear from you soon!

  52. i have recently done my M.A in Philosophy of 2 years after 2 year Graduation in Pakistan, now i want to do M.Phil or M.A with research in philosophy from U.K. i want to compare my qualification to with U.K’ qualification so i can know better to which course to apply. please help me in it. should i apply for M.Phil or M.A with research?

    1. Hi Huma,

Thanks for the query, whilst we can’t advise you on what degree programme you should choose (universities in the UK should be able to help you decide which is best for you) we can definitely provide comparability for your awards from Pakistan- the service you would need is the Statement of Comparability service (details can be found at http://www.ecctis.co.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/Statement%20of%20Comparability.aspx).

      Hope this helps.

  53. hello ,
I would like to do Career Path Report and I have one question ,should I pay service before I send my document or when you get them ?
    Thank you

    1. Before we take payment for the Career Path Report service, we would like to check your documents and qualifications to ensure we can carry out the service. Please send us a photocopy of the final certificate, transcripts and/or diploma supplement for the qualifications you would like to include in the report. You can either fax it to us on 0871 330 7005 or mail it through to our usual address (UK NARIC, Oriel House, Oriel Road, Cheltenham, Glos, GL50 1XP). We will contact you after checking the documents to take payment.

  54. Hi
I am a UK resident and my partner, who is currently living with me in UK was a dentist graduate from India. I am planning to apply for a English Language Assessment Certificate for my partner. But, there is some problem on which I need some advice. My partners degree certificate have a slightly different spelling to the one that appears on her passport. I wanted to know whether if we provide all her certificates along with a copy of her passport, then will UK NARIC be able to issue a certificate on the correct spelling which appears on her passport? All the degree certificates carry her photo similar to that in her passport. I am a few months away from applying for indefinite leave to remain and have only noticed this problem recently. Please let me know if you are able to advise.

    1. I understand that you have contacted UK NARIC directly on this point; we will be contacting you through the most appropriate channel as soon as possible.

  56. hey, i have the degree of fsc(pre eng) from pakistan 12 years education so how can it assassible for taking admition in engineering at uk

    1. Hi Abdullah, thanks for the query. The HSC from Pakistan is a national exit award that we can assess, but in terms of progressing onto a degree in Engineering in the UK it is unlikely to meet the direct entry requirements of British universities. We recommend that you speak with universities directly regarding entry requirements who should be able to advise you on what can be done to gain admission and what options are available to you. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  57. Hi
As per the statement of comparability provided my NARIC, my Bachelors degree and Masters degree from India are comparable to British standards, however the statement have no mention of grade comparison like 2.1,2.2, 3rd etc. I am wondering what does “comparable to British standards” mean? Does it mean that the grade achieved in overseas qualification is similar to British grade or does it mean that comparison of grades is not available?
To be eligible and to apply for teacher training bursary, I need to see if my qualification is at least equivalent to 2.2 grade. Without grade comparison , I may not be eligible for bursary.

Could you please advice how could I get a statement of comparison with equivalent grades mentioned?

    Many thanks
    Smita

    1. Hi Sunaimi

Thanks for the query. In order to carry out an English Language Assessment, first of all the award has to be considered comparable to the British Bachelor degree standard. A Nepalese Bachelor degree may not meet this standard, so it would be wise to contact us so we can take further details to see how this award would be assessed. Assuming it does meet the British Bachelor degree standard, we would need confirmation on the medium of instruction. With regards to ACCA, this award cannot be used for the English Language Assessment as it’s professional in nature. I hope this helps. If you can get in touch, our number is 0871 330 7033.

      Best regards, UK NARIC

  58. Dear UK NARIK,
I am a Lebanese student and have completed secondary education in a private institution in Lebanon (which is of a very high quality). The primary language of instruction is English. I want to apply for a BA in film in the met film school. I would like to know if my qualification gets me into an undergraduate program in UK; moreover, I would like to know if I must do an English language test.
    Regards,
    Firas Itani

    1. Hi Firas, thanks for the query. Requirements to enter higher education in the UK very much depends on the admitting institution, so there is no ‘blanket’ answer to this question. Presumably, if you were schooled in Lebanon, you completed the البكالوريا (Baccalauréat Général). Whilst we can’t confirm whether this would be acceptable for admission to university here, we can provide assessment- for details on our Statement of Comparability service, please see http://bit.ly/XrMrXO or call us to discuss on 0871 330 7033. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  59. Hi, I have an urgent query about my bachelor’s degree (LLB) from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool van Amsterdam/HBO) with 240 ECTS. I want to apply for the Graduate Diploma of Law for which I need a Statement of comparability from UK NARIC. I also hold an LLM in Public International Law from the University of Amsterdam.
According to the Dutch NARIC (NUFFIC), my bachelor’s degree (HBO bachelor’s degree) from Hogeschool van Amsterdam is comparable to the UK honours bachelor degree (QCF level 6 in the UK is comparable to level 6 of the NLQF = Netherlands Qualifications Framework and level 6 of the EQF = European Qualifications Framework.)

See the evaluation chart on page 4 (first box):
    https://www.nuffic.nl/en/library/country-module-united-kingdom.pdf

Could you tell me whether you have assessed degrees from this university and what was the outcome.

    1. Hi, thanks for the query. I’m afraid that we can’t confirm comparability for these awards in the public domain, but we’d be happy to discuss this with you over the telephone. If you can contact us on 0871 330 7033 an Information Officer will be happy to help. What I can confirm is that both institutions are recognised in the Netherlands, so we’d certainly be able to assess these awards. Best regards, UK NARIC

  61. Hello! I am a South African, who taught in the UK from 2005-2008, during which time I applied for and received a Statement of Comparability, assessing my BPrimED qualification that I obtained in South Africa at the University of Kwa Zulu Natal. After receiving the statement, I thereafter wrote the Skills Tests and obtained Qualified Teacher Status whilst in permanent employment through DfE and teaching at a school in East Dulwich, London.

I left the UK in 2008 and am currently applying for a distance learning Masters/Phd in Education and cannot find my NARIC Statement of Comparability, neither can I find my NARIC reference number. I have been traveling quite a lot and while I reside in the Philippines, am presently in SA.

I do have my original QTS certificate here and copies of my skills tests notification letters. BUT what I really need is a copy of the Statement of Comparability and hopefully to be issued a Certificate.

I am hoping that you will be able to track my records on your system with this information:

    Full name: Juanita Naidoo
    Teacher Reference number: 0880663

My sister lives in London and if you can track my records and issue copies, I would arrange for her to make the payment and provide her postal address as well.It would be a shame to have to re-submit my documents but if there really is no other way I would need advice on how to go about the process!

Could you please advise? Fingers crossed that you can find me on your system….!

    Thanks!
PS.I did send an email and am just following up here to ensure my message does reach you!

    1. Thank you for your email.

Your unique enquiry number for your application completed in 2008 is 1941746310. Since your request has been received more than three months after the original Statement of Comparability has been sent, you will need to submit a photocopy of the relevant qualification(s) to UK NARIC in order to verify the level of your assessment. We will charge £12.00 (£14.40 incl. VAT) for re-issuing this statement. Please note there is an additional postage charge payable; please see the delivery options page for further details.

If you wish to pay by credit or debit card, you can call UK NARIC on (0044) (0)871 330 7033 (Monday to Friday, between 9:00am and 5:00pm) and make your payment over the phone.

If you wish to pay by cheque or postal order, this needs to be made payable to ECCTIS LIMITED. Please post the cheque or postal order to the address below, stating your name and reference number on the cover letter/note.

      Our address is:

      UK NARIC
      ORIEL HOUSE
      ORIEL ROAD
      CHELTENHAM
      GLOS
      GL50 1XP

      1. Thank you very much! This is good news:-) As I am traveling, my sister will make the payment over the phone, provide her London address for delivery, and then courier the certificate to me. I will find it easier to fax copies of my degree certificate, transcripts and SACE certificate, should it also be required again. Just to clarify before proceeding, must my sister make the phone payment before I fax the documents through? Or is it vice versa?

I also have a secondary query. I am wondering about the comparability of a post-grad distance learning course in Sustainability Education that I completed through the University of Catalonia in 2012. Would it be possible for this to be processed, could it be done with the same unique enquiry number or would that be a different application?

        Thanks for your advice.

      2. Hi Juanita, thanks for the query. If you can fax copies of your awards to us on 0871 330 7055, making sure your reference number is included, then you will receive a confirmatory email to say that we’ve received the fax. Once this happens, you could let your sister know who could then call us and arrange for payment to be taken. As for the Spanish award, this would not incur any additional cost- however, it doesn’t sound like this is a national award within the Spanish national qualification framework so it might not be possible for us to provide comparability. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  62. Hello! This is Juanita again. Thank you for your advice. I have great news! I found my original statement of comparability from 2008! My 4yr BPrimEd was assessed as comparable to British Bachelors (Ordinary) Degree. Could you advise if I would need to have it verified in order to strengthen my application or should I proceed with what I currently have? Would the levels have changed since then? I have noticed for some Masters programmes, an Honours Degree is a pre-requisite and for others the QTS is sufficient. Which made me wonder whether some institutes consider a Bachelors (Ordinary) Degree with QTS status equivalent to an Honours level? I am in the process of preparing required documents for course applications. If advised to re-send documents for verification, I will fax them asap. Thank you!

    1. Hi Juanita, glad to hear you found the statement! I’ve checked the levels provided and the assessment is still correct, so there’s no need to apply for a replacement. With regards to specific requirements for entering the teaching profession in the UK, you’ll need to speak with the National College for Teaching and Leadership http://www.nationalcollege.org.uk/ I hope this helps. Best wishes, UK NARIC

      1. Hello again. I have another query. I have been applying for scholarships for an online Masters in Education. I’ve been successful and been shortlisted to receive a scholarship to study an M.Ed in Educational Leadership and Management at the University of Nicosia. I found this information on their website regarding the course accreditation/affiliation with the University of London, have written to both universities for clarification and am awaiting their replies.
        http://www.unic.ac.cy/distance-learning/university-of-london-international-programmes

I’d like to know whether the University of Nicosia is a recognised university as I wish to continue my studies and pursue a PhD through either the University of Leicester or the Institute of Education in the future. Could you please advise?

        Thanks, Juanita

  63. I am ACCA part-qualified (only one paper left to be qualified), studied in London, UK. ACCA website says that “NARIC equates the ACCA qualification to UK taught Masters degree. NARIC will verify ACCA Qualification equivalence on individual application to their Statement of Comparability service”.

I am applying for a British passport and required to provide the following:

    • Certificate showing that you have a speaking and listening qualification in English at B1 CEFR or higher, or an equivalent level qualification; OR
    • Certificate showing that you have obtained an academic qualification deemed by UK NARIC to meet the recognised standard of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or PhD in the United Kingdom and (i) an English Language Assessment (ELA) from UK NARIC confirming that the qualification was taught or researched in English or (ii) the qualification was taught or researched in the UK or a majority English speaking country (other than Canada).

Does it mean that I still have to order a Statement of Comparability to support my application?

    Thanks in advance,

    Svetlana.

    1. Hi Svetlana, thanks for the query. You may wish to speak with the Home Office directly about their specific requirements as we are a separate agency, but I should clarify that UK NARIC is only able to provide a Statement of Comparability for complete awards so until all papers are passed, we wouldn’t be able to provide our service. I suggest you follow this link in order to find an answer to your query http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/aboutus/contact/enquiries/. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  64. hi its grace from india, its really nice to have a website like this which provides so much of information. i too would like to know how i have to go about my degree.i have done my five and half year degree in bachelor degree in homoeopathic medicine and surgery.

    1. Hi Grace, thanks for the message. If you are interested in having your BHMS formally assessed by UK NARIC, you can start the process online here: http://www.ecctis.co.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/Statement%20of%20Comparability.aspx However, before you do that, you may wish to contact us in order to get an idea of the result of the assessment- our number is 0871 330 7033. An Information Advisor will be happy to help you. With best regards, UK NARIC

  65. Hi,
I had seen some previous comments regarding AMIE, India recognition. I’m an AMIE graduate more over, Since we have no use of getting a statement of comparability of AMIE equivalent to Bsc (ordinary) degree kindly provide the present status of the equivalency of the AMIE degree in UK so that we can apply for it. 66. Hi,

I have done my Bachelors in Dental Sugery (BDS) from University of Health Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan in 2010 and have a Certificate of Comparability to British Bachelor Degree (Ordinary). I require an English Language Assessment to apply for ILR with the Home Office. The medium of instruction in my institute was always in English and all my examinations were conducted in English, I have a letter confirming the same from my institute.

I would like to confirm will I get my English Language Assessment after having a Certificate of Comparability or shall I use my Certificate for Comparability for ILR?

    Your response will help many.

    Regards,

    Sherry

  67. Do you recognize a degree from University of Peshawar? It’s a legitimate, huge university in Pakistan. My statement of Comparability was returned as being inconclusive. U never returned my original degree and I was asked that the university send the degree to yourselves directly, which they did. It’s not fair that you won’t check thoroughly if the degree is genuinely from the only main public university of the province, where it’s so easy to cross check and compare it. All fee in vain. I did all the leg work for you. You still returned it as being unknown. Your decision stated it to be of an unknown format. I gather it’s because their degrees are now more decent with photographs an all so isn’t it a thought to ask them for their format these days. Believe it or not change and progress sometimes happens in Pakistan too. Since my statement was returned in 2010 , I am hoping you would have updated your system and would now acknowledge a degree from University Of Peshawar Pakistan. Sorry I sound bitter but the inefficiency left my future in doldrums.

    1. Hi Aleesha, thanks for the query. We are very much aware that the University of Peshawar is a recognised university in Pakistan- with specific regard to your case, however, I am presently unable to help you as we do not have enough information to look into your application. Would you be able to contact us on 0871 330 7033 so we can take some details from you? I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  68. Dear Sir/Madam,

I want statement of comparability for this….HEC Pakistan did not recognise SQA and HDA equal to bachelors and graduation

They said it is under progress..Kindly help on this regard

I want UK NARIC to help me on this regard I would pay the application fees and will fax you my documents with a covering letter if requires.

I would wait for your kind response

    Regards,

    Sincerely.

    1. Hi Waqar, thanks for the query. As your award is from the UK, we are unable to provide assistance I’m afraid. I would recommend that you contact the SQA directly for assistance. Sorry I cannot be of more help to you. Best regards, UK NARIC

      1. Dear Sir/Madam,

But, Statement of Comparability is for every one..If I submit my documents with fees I won’t get the statement of comparability?? I need the document? I would pay the fees for my application.

If I submit my documents with fees would I be eligible to receive Statement of Comparability?

        Regards,

        Sincerely

      2. Hi Waqar, as your award is from the UK we cannot provide comparison- it is automatically recognised here. On this basis, no comparability can be provided (nor is it needed) so as previously confirmed, we are regrettably unable to help on this occasion. Best regards, UK NARIC

    Thanks,
    Sutharshani

    1. Hi Sutharshani, thanks for the query. 71. Hello, Dear,

I have done my Bachelor’s Degree in Math on 2009. I just been looked at the ‘overseas grade comparison’ list and saw some requirements of comparable bachelors degrees from Lithuania to the British Bachelor’s with the essential grades. The same i saw that for comparison is used system from 1-10 grade scale and if grade is 10,9,8 is equivalent to 1st,2.1,2.2 to the British Bachelors (Honors) Degree Standard.
The Grade means the average or the grade of Bachelor’s paper grade? For example: If Bachelor’s paper (grade) is 7, but average of all the marks in study period is 8.6 (GPA), but from math subjects is GPA approx. 9. What type of British bachelor’s could be comparison.
    Many Thanks
    Talk soon
    Audrius

    1. Hi Audrius, thanks for the query. The UK NARIC service provided to individuals does not compare grades- we only compare the overall level of an award to a level within the UK national qualification framework. The interpretation of grades- where appropriate- is carried out by admitting institutions in line with their own requirements. I hope this helps. Best regards, UK NARIC

  74. I did my o levels and A levels from Pakistan and then I started my degree there- bsc (Hons) accounting and finance. I needed 120 credit hours to complete my degree. I did 82 credit hours and then came to london. Will it be considered as foundation degree in uk?

    1. Hi Emma,

      Thanks for the post.

UK NARIC are only able to provide comparability information for completed qualifications. As such, we would only be able to provide comparison information for the “o levels and A levels” previously studied. More information on applying for UK NARIC’s Statement of Comparability can be found here: http://bit.ly/XrMrXO

If you were looking to continue your studies at a British higher education institution, we would recommend that you contact the institution directly regarding admission and possible credit transfer for the incomplete Bachelor’s Degree.

I hope this information is of assistance to you.

  78. if i dont have any of the transcript, but certificates, would u b able to provide the statement of comparability?

    1. Hi Jia,

      Thank you for your post,

Whilst we would ordinarily require both Final Certificates & Transcripts. If you are unable to provide either the transcript of results or the final certificate/diploma, you can submit the information you have for consideration, in order to see if we are able to do an assessment based on the available documentation. If we require further documentation in order to proceed with your application, you will be notified by way of an administrative letter. In the event That you are not able to provide any further information and UK NARIC is unable to proceed on the final certificate alone you would be eligible for a refund of the service

      I hope this helps

  79. hello, my father is 52 years old he has a high education diploma in constructions engineering ,and 26 years of experience in that area he is romanian nationality , he is working here in uk as a construction worker but i would like to know if it is possible that his diploma could be valid here in order for him to take the cscs academically qualified person card.

thank you in advance , i will be gratefull for every comment

    1. Hi Alma,

      Thank you for your post,

A “Statement of Comparability” would be able to assist you in demonstrating the level of your fathers application to a UK Standard, this information can then be used by CSCS to determine the most appropriate card. You can find full details of the service provided by UK NARIC including how to apply here: http://bit.ly/XrMrXO.

If you are applying specifically for a CSCS card, UK NARIC would recommend ensuring to mention this in the cover letter/ email when making his application and asking for the inclusion of NVQ information against your award, as in most cases this can be included as additional information and this can be very helpful in applications of this nature.

      I hope this helps

  80. Hello,

I am applying for naturalization through Form AN (Oct 2013). I have a question about proving the knowledge of language. I have passed the Life in the UK test before October 2013.

When I applied for my first Tier1 visa, I had claimed 10 points for English language, as my bachelor’s degree was recognized on the points based calculator.

Do I still have to get my bachelor’s degree assessed by NARIC to prove my knowledge of language ?

    Thank you,
    Raj

    1. Hi Raj,

      Thank you for your Post.

UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and whilst we provide documents that can be of assistance in this process we are not directly involved and would not be unable to advise on the requirements for a Visa or naturalisation application.

We would recommend you contact the Home Office directly for information on this matter. (https://www.gov.uk/contact-ukvi/british-citizenship-and-nationality).

UK NARIC provide a number of services that can be used to support an application if these are required. These include the “Statement of Comparability” if an academic equivalence of the award is required. Additionally the “English Language Assessment“ is available where an award is equivalent to a UK Bachelors award and is taught entirely in English, this will provide an assessment of the award to see if it meets a CEFR level C1 for English proficiency.

Details of UK NARIC’s services including how to apply can be found here: http://bit.ly/1mIqbZg

I hope this information is of assistance to you.

  81. I have a master degree in Information Technology from the Ateneo De Manila University in Philippines. What is the UK equivalent of this degree? I am now a resident of Bristol and I am planning to take ITT. Please reply. Thanks

    1. Dear Regattap,

      Thank you for your post,

I’m afraid we wouldn’t be able to comment regarding comparability of qualifications in an open forum such as this, as I’m sure you’ll understand- you’d be most welcome to call us and speak to an Information Advisor who could provide an informal comparison for this over the phone. Our number is 0044 871 330 7033.

If you wish to apply for a “Statement of Comparability” to obtain a formal statement you can find full details of this service including how to apply here: http://bit.ly/XrMrXO

If you have any further questions though please do get back in touch.

  83. Can Pakistani Senior School Certificate and Higher School certificate be converted into UCAS points. Although I have masters from a UK university, but for Job Applications most employers also need your A level and GCSE UCAS.

    1. Hi and thanks for your post,

We are the national recognition centre for overseas qualification but whilst we can compare qualifications to the UK’s education framework, we are unable to provide UCAS points for overseas qualifications.

Where employers are specifying UCAS points as a requirement we would recommend contacting the recruitment team for the organisation to determine what alternative requirements they may require from individuals with overseas qualifications, as this is information you will be unable to provide them with.

      I hope this helps

  85. I have master degree in computing from one of the oldest and well known university, University of the Punjab, pakistan. The medium of instruction, syllabus and examination system in this university is english. I applied for comparability statement and UK naric confirmed it as a bachelor degree in uk. I also applied for the ELA and despite having been met all requirements stated on uk naric’s website, i came up with the result that It does not meet the English CEFR level C1. Further it states ‘we understand English is the medium of instruction in the teaching and examination system of the department providing this award, it unfortunately has not been possible to confirm that the necessary English language requirements for CEFR level C1 are met upon completion.’
is this not contradiction to UK naric’s own set of requirements for ELA? considering when all conditions (UK equivalent bachelor degree and medium of instructions should be english etc) are achieved. Could you please tell me what is that hidden requirement i could not achieve?

    1. Hi Imran,

The English Language Assessment is an assessment to see if your qualification meets the C1 level in the Common European Framework for English Proficiency, the requirements specified on our website are the minimum requirements for UK NARIC to look into and perform the assessment itself and is not a guarantee that your course would have been taught to the required level. If you are unhappy with the assessment received and believe it to be incorrect you can follow the appeals process specified here: http://bit.ly/1nUZD4m

Alternatively, if this is being used as part of an application to the Home Office you may wish to contact them to determine alternate ways of meeting their requirements.

I hope this clarifies the matter.

  86. I have done masters in english from Punjab Uni Pakistan and wonder if this is acceptable for the english language requirement for Indefinite leave to remain application visa? I would be greatly obliged if you could clarify this

    1. Hi Ghani,

      Thank you for your post,

UK NARIC is the National Agency responsible for providing information and advice about vocational, academic and professional skills and qualifications from all over the world. We recommend you contact the Home Office directly for information on visa points. Their website is http://www.gov.uk and details on how to contact them directly can be found here http://bit.ly/1iZzOlP

The “English Language Assessment” UK NARIC offer will confirm whether a qualification equivalent to a UK bachelors award, taught entirely in English meets a C1 level of English proficiency in the Common European Framework and if wishing to apply for this service we would recommend sending both your Bachelor and Masters Awards to UK NARIC for consideration. 1.
        I’ve 74% in bech n masters.
Could you please advice how could I get a statement of comparison with equivalent grades mentioned?
And also the gcse n a level english comparison n your statement is not very clear on the gcse or a levels

        Thanks

      2. Hi Gopi,

Thank you for your post. We are able to provide comparability information for qualifications that constitute a national standard in the education system of the country of origin. Unfortunately we are unable to provide a comparability statement for grades obtained in these qualifications.

It is recommended that you present transcripts directly to potential bursary provider/admitting institutions for consideration on an individual basis in line with specific grade requirements.

For further information and advice on teaching in the UK, you may wish to contact

National College for Teaching and Leadership who can be contacted on 0800 389 2500.

I hope this information is of assistance to you.

  88. Dear UK NARIC,

If a degree awards 10 points in the English language section of the points based calculator, then in your formal ELA certification for that degree, do you certify it to be C1 level of English proficiency.

    Thanks
    Avinash

    1. Hi Avin,

      Thank you for your post,

Although UK NARIC provide information that is used by the Home Office for their points based calculator we are not directly involved in the attribution of these points. This means that a qualification showing or not showing points on the Home Office points based calculator is not a guarantee that it will or will not meet the C1 level of English Proficiency when investigated as part of the English Language Assessment that UK NARIC provide.

Please note that UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and that we are unable to advise on points requirements for the visa application process. We recommend you contact the Home Office directly for information on visa points. Their website is https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration and their telephone number is 0870 606 7766.

I hope this information is of assistance to you.

    1. Hi Mohammed

      Thank you for your post.

UK NARIC is a separate organisation from the Home Office and whilst we provide documents that can be of assistance in this process we are not directly involved and would not be unable to advise on the whether or not your qualification would meet the specific requirements for a Tier 2 Visa.

We would recommend you contact the Home Office directly for information on this matter to determine the necessary requirements. (https://www.gov.uk/contact-ukvi/british-citizenship-and-nationality).

  90. Good day Naric! I am amazed to have found this blog website helping people like me to find accurate answers. I am a Filipina married to a british citizen and currently on a process of my spouse visa application. One of the requirements I must comply is taking an English proficiency test KET A1 specifically. But I found out that UK immigration gives exemption for those people who are qualified not to take the English exam necessarily. Can you assess me? I graduated with a bachelor’s degree of secondary education major in english and have passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers given by the Professional Regulation Commission. Can this be enough to be exempted from the test?

    Sincerely yours,
    Mary Ann

    1. Hi Mary,

      Thank you for your post

In our English Language Assessment we can see if a qualification that is a equivalent to a UK Bachelors level and has been taught entirely in English meets a C1 level of English proficiency in the common European framework which may be useful for this purpose. If you specify in your application that you require it to an A1 level we may also be able to provide this as additional information. Details on this service including how to apply can be found here http://bit.ly/VDVmmB

Thank you for your post, unfortunately we are not able to discuss specific qualifications in an open forum such as this. You may be able to obtain an informal verbal comparison by contacting our enquiries service centre on 0871 330 7033 and discussing your award with one of our Information Advisors.

  94. Hi, My wife has done llb from Osmania University in India. We are now british citizen and she intends to get into law profession.
Is this degree equivalent to UK llb? and an she taken up LPC directly.
I would really appreciate if you could provide feedback, so we can plan to apply to UKNARIC and make further plans.

Kindly indicate if career path evaluation is asked, would this provide details so it is clear to the university on equivalency. I have check the Solicitor Regulation Authority webiste, where they asked to get UKNARIC euivalence for overseas education. So I’m expecting the comparision to be for the law and not a british standard degree as the Education instituion will follow UKNARIC guidance

    Raghu Kandukuri

    1. Dear Raghu,

      Thank you for your post,

UK NARIC will provide an overall comparability for your wife’s qualifications in the UK’s educational framework it will not comment on how it compares specifically to a British law degree. However for professional recognition and progression she will then be able to provide our statement to The Solicitor Regulation Authority, who will use this information to advise her on the steps available to her. Unfortunately because we are not directly involved in the entry process to specific professions, we are unable to advise on the exact requirements that may be needed. but you will find that the UK NARIC “Statement of Comparability” is used alongside the original qualifications by many organisations to help make an informed decision regarding overseas awards and can be useful for both employment and further education applications.

I have taken level 1 and 2 anaesthetic courses at Thames Valley university allowing me to practice Anaesthetic nursing. I am also married to a British national. I would have met all these criteria long time ago but I have just decided to apply for citizenship. Do I still need to take an English exam?

    Again, many thanks !

Anyway, I have a four years Bachelors in Hotel & Restaurant Management degree from the University of San Jose – Recoletos in the Philippines and I am now living here in the UK and and presently holding a British Passport. Can you please help me what do I have to apply, the Statement of Comparability or English Language Assessment in order for me to know the standing/equivalent of my degree that I have obtain in my country . 107. Hi UK NARIC, I want to know if my Electronics Engineer title from Argentina (UCA) makes me an Electronics Engineer in the UK. I want to apply for a Masters Degree in the UK.

    1. Hi

It is probably best if you apply for Statement of Comparability to confirm the level of the qualification in UK terms. Electronic engineering is not a regulated profession in the UK and UK higher education institutions can use their our discretion about what qualifications can be used when applying for a course. Good luck.

  108. hallo
I have 70 ECTS credits form a german university.I was studying a bachelor but i was not able to complete it. Can i get an equivalence statement.

    1. Hi

It is a bit difficult for us to be able to provide an assessment for an incomplete qualification. Our advice would be to contact the university / college in the UK directly and find out whether it would be acceptable to transfer the credit you have accumulated so far onto their course. Good luck.

  109. Hello, Dear,

If I have bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Teacher Qualification from Lithuania. How it could be converted or to be called in UK. Like BSc or BA if its recognised by naric uk? Do you issues any certifications by confirming eqvivalents.

    sincerely,
    audrius

  110. Please allow me to ask further questions.

I am about to apply for a UK work permit (Tier 2 – General).

Regarding the requirement to prove my knowledge of English, I have contacted UKVI and it said in the reply message to me that

“You will exempt form English Language test if you have an academic
qualification that was taught in English and is recognised by UK NARIC as
being equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree.”

Please suggest what services offered by NARIC I should apply to in order to achieve this requirement, given that my master’s degree was entirely taught in English, but my bachelor’s degree was taught in Thai.

Do I have to apply for both of the two services below?
    1. Statement of Comparability
    2. English Language Assessment
    – to confirm whether your degree has been taught solely in English and meets the required level of English language proficiency (CEFR level C1).

For more details, my academic qualifications are summarized below.

Bachelor’s degree (was taught in Thai) in 2001
    Department of Computer Engineering
King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Thailand.

Master’s degree (International program – was entirely taught in English) in 2008
    Department of Computer Engineering
King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Thailand.

PhD (was taught in Korean and English) in 2013
    Department of Geoinformatics
    University of Seoul, Korea.

Thank you very much. I am looking forward to hearing from you about the services I should take.

    1. Dear Sonhei,

Many thanks for getting in touch.

UK NARIC offer an English Language Assessment specifically against Bachelor level awards taught entirely in English to demonstrate proficiency to a C1 level in the CEFR framework, Unfortunately we would not be able to offer this service against your Masters & PhD awards.

The Statement of Comparability can be used to demonstrate the academic level of your awards in the UK’s educational framework this would not confirm that your, whilst this document does not confirm that your course was taught in English, if presented alongside other evidence it may be suitable for this purpose. Please note however UK NARIC is not directly involved in the VISA application process, as such we would always recommend checking with UKVI to ensure you are providing them with the correct informations.

      Best wishes

  112. Hi UK Naric Team,
I am planning to switch into tier2 visa, so I like to know that for ACCA Qualification can you provide equivalency statement to undergraduate degree level.

    1. Dear Alison,

Many thanks for getting in touch, whilst we are unable to comment on specific qualifications in an open forum such as this, we are able to provide a comparison for this type of award. Good day!

One of the university entry requirement is , International qualifications are considered on an individual basis, when the University can establish that the qualification is equivalent to level 3 of the National Qualifications Framework and guided learning hours have met the University’s minimum entry requirement; with at least 5 GCSEs or equivalent grades A-C, including English language and maths.

My question is, do I have to apply for a Statement of Comparability or English Language Assessment or what specific statement to apply in your office, please let me know the right statement do I need to apply so that I will not waste time & money .

    Thanks for the time.

    Looking forward hearing from you.

    1. Dear Lyn,

Many thanks for getting in touch, Universities may typically ask for the Statement of Comparability to get get confirmation of where your qualifications sit in terms of the UK’s educational framework. However as universities in the UK are ran independently it is always worth contacting their admissions team to confirm their requirements before making a payment for one of our services.

Should the Statement of Comparability be required full details including how to apply can be found here: http://bit.ly/XrMrXO

I just received my comparability statement. Thank you, however, you only compared my bachelor’s degree rather than comparing my Master degree. 1. Hi Rohini,

We would recommend you get a statement of comparability from UK NARIC first. This will provide you with the UK comparable level of your qualification which you can then present to employers. Once you have your statement and are ready to look for work you may want to contact the engineering council for advise on how to go about finding a job in this field.

thanx alot for your reply. I have bit of confusion regarding my certificates. I have done three years aircraft maintainance from indian institute of aeronautics which is approved by DGCA.
I have passed 3 different exams in 3 years which is paper 1 aircraft rules and regulations, paper2 general engineering and maintenance practices, and paper 3 radio navigation system.
these all three are AIRCRAFT MAINTAINENCE ENGINEERING LICENCE written examination in india.
so now the confusion is i got 5 certificates in total.
        1. College course completion certificate which states I cleared 3 year course in IIA which is equalant to ICAO (international civil aviation organisation) type 2 standards.
        2. This is mark sheet for all 5 semesters .
REST 3 OF THEM ARE AME LICENCE basic written examination certificates.

so I jus wanna know which certificate or document I need to send to you for statement of comparatability.jus the college one which states I did 3 year couse or all 5 of them need to be compared. If u can provide me any email id I can upload all 5 documents for u.

        thanx
        regards
        rohini

  127. Hi! Im leaving here in UK. I’m currently holding an indefinite leave to remain visa( settlement) and by next year 2015 I’ll be a british citizen. I graduated as a registered nurse in the philippines, volunteered for 2months and had an experienced for more than a year in Saudi. When I got here in london I stop working for nearly 7years now because of taking care of my two small children. I haven’t register in nmc. I’m planning to go back to nursing but I’m quite confused as to where do I have to start and what route shall I have to take?… I’ve read about RTP( return to practice) , am I qualified to take that? What are the options for me to become a nurse in UK? Please kindly help me…

    1. Hello,
As you said the body to contact with regards to getting registered in the UK is the NMC (Nursing & Midwifery Council) however they will ask you to have your qualification assessed by UK NARIC. You can apply for a Statement of Comparability (SoC) from UK NARIC online. Full details of how to go about this are on our website: http://www.ecctis.co.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/Statement%20of%20Comparability.aspx . 128. Hi,
I’m a pharmacist from Syria . I have got arefugee status .. Could you please email me do i have to pay any fees to get comparability certificate ..

    Thanks

    1. Dear Tima,

Unfortunately you would have to the pay the fees if you would like a Statement of Comparability from UK NARIC and apply directly. If the cost is going to be prohibitive then you could try and contact refugee organisations that may be able to fund the application for you. You could start with the Refugee Council (http://www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/). Alternatively it may be worth speaking to the General Pharmaceutical Council directly about how to become registered as a Pharmacist in the UK (http://www.pharmacyregulation.org/registration/registering-pharmacist/overseas-non-eea-qualified-pharmacists)

I hope this is of help

It is an officially recognised document that confirms the recognition of an overseas qualification and its comparable level in the UK, irrespective of it being an academic, vocational or professional award. It is used by universities, colleges, employers and Government departments and agencies forming part of their decision-making process.

More information about a SoC can be found on the UK NARIC website http://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/Statement%20of%20Comparability.aspx.

Unfortunately we are not able to provide any information about whether you would be able to complete a medical degree in the UK as this is a decision that would need to be made by the university in question.

      I hope this helps.

      Best wishes

  131. Hi,

I wanted to apply to the University of Oxford for their BCL program. I have a Law degree [B.A.LL.B (Honours)] from India [National Law Institute University, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh] with 69% marks.

The selection criteria as provided on their website is:

    Proven and potential academic excellence

Entrance is very competitive and applicants are normally expected to be predicted or have achieved a first-class undergraduate degree (or equivalent international qualifications) in law. Equivalent qualifications may include a postgraduate diploma or master’s qualification in law.

For applicants with a degree from the USA, the minimum GPA we seek is 3.7 out of 4.0.

If you hold non-British qualifications, you are advised to check how your qualifications match these requirements with the National Recognition Information Centre for the United Kingdom (UK NARIC).

I wanted to confirm the following:
    1) Is it mandatory to obtain an SoC from Naric to apply for the said course? Or is it recommendatory/advisory, only?
    2) Do you provide an equivalent conversion of the marks obtained in the degree? For instance, what would a score of 69% in India be equivalent to in UK?
    3) How can I determine if my degree is a ‘first-class undergraduate degree in law’?
    4) I know a few recipients of the same degree as mine who have also previously been given admission in the BCL course. Does that mean that this degree would be acceptable?

    Thanks

    1. Dear Kritika,

A Statement of Comparability while frequently used by employers and for education is not a compulsory document nor is it binding and is an advisory document based on the research conducted by UK NARIC. While not compulsory many organisations can insist you provide this document to enable them to make an informed decision as part of their application criteria. As such you should contact the University of Oxford to clarify whether this document is required but based on the detail provided above it does suggest this will be necessary if you have a non-UK qualification.

The service itself will only clarify the academic level of the award in terms of the UK’s educational framework and would not comment on the marks achieved. This means that whilst you will not be able to confirm if your degree is directly equivalent to a first-class undergraduate degree in law in the UKby providing the statement provided by UK NARIC to the University of Oxford they will use this and details of the marks achieved on the original award to help them make a decision. Access to a course can take into account many factors and because these procedures can be very diverse from one organisation to another we wouldn’t able to advise you if your award would give you access to a course and you should contact the University of Oxford, to better understand their requirements.

      I hope this helps.

  132. Hi,

    1. Dear Deniz,

  134. Hi,

I have masters degree of Statistics from pakistan.
I want to study further in UK.
I need some information and help what to do next.
Can you give me any telephone number or email address to get full information i require.

    Many thanks,

    1. Hi the best thing to do is apply for a Statement of Comparability; this will confirm the level of your qualification in UK terms.

If you want to study for an undergraduate qualification you will need to apply through UCAS (www.ucas.com).

If you want to study for a postgraduate qualification you should contact the institutions directly; you could use the UCAS course search to work out which universities offer the courses which are of interest to you.

      Good luck

  135. Dear NARIC, I live in Iran and my husband is a British in the UK. We want to apply for the settlement. I’ve studied English translation in Iran and I’m working as an English teacher. I want to know if my husband can apply for compability of my bachelor degree certificate by NARIC. And which one can be done faster if I apply online or my husband, there in the UK. How long does it take? If it’s possible to apply online how can I pay in Iran. Thanks in advance

    1. Dear Sattar,

If you are happy to share your account details with your husband in the UK there would be no reason why he would not be able to log in and pay on your behalf. Alternatively if you ensure to provide permission for him to handle your application on your behalf in the additional details section of the application. he can contact our service centre directly and pay over the phone once the necessary documents have been received. for full details on the accepted forms of payment see the link below.

UK NARIC do offer a Statement of Comparability service which can help you to have your qualification better understood in the UK and is often used by employers and organisations to make a more informed decision when reviewing your overseas award. 138. Hello
    Just a quick enquiry please
I have done 2 years becholers degree followed by masters in computer sciences from a well known university of Pakistan scoring 80%marks at 3.2cgpa out of4.0
I got an initial enquiry done from NARIC and the level of degree I got is uk becholers degree(ordinary)
I don’t understand how they have done it although I was 21yrs when I finished my education
Can you please tell me how it’s worked out as I need to do PGCE asap
    Many thanx

    1. Hi Mariam,

A large number of factors are taken into account when comparing qualifications from overseas to the UK’s education framework. Unfortunately we cannot comment on individual assessments online, however if you would like a further clarification regarding the outcome of your assessment please contact us at info@naric.org.uk for further information on the options available to you once you have had the assessment can be found here: http://bit.ly/1nUZD4m

      I hope this helps

  139. Dear NARIC, as I described in my former message, l’ve studied English translation in Iran and I was taught in English mostly. my husband is a British citizen.we want to apply for the settlement.I sent you a message and I explained everything.then I applied for the English assessment and paid for it. But they told me it is not possible for them to asses my award because it was not taught just in English language.I wonder why you did not tell me about it! Is that mean they cannot assess English translation awards? So does it work if I send them my working docuخments as an English teacher? If not what happens to our payment because we paid for it! Regards, Shekoufeh

    1. Dear Shekoufeh,

Unfortunately, we cannot comment on individual applications, however the requirements of our English Language Assessment are clearly outlined on our website. Unfortunately the English Language Assessment offered by UK NARIC is based specifically on evidence of a bachelors level degree that has been taught entirely in English to the required level, as such evidence of working as a teacher would not be taken into account, and it may be worth considering other options such as a recognised English Test which can be located on the Home Office website (https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/368123/Approved_secure_English_language_tests_-_updated_November_2014.pdf).

If you are not able to proceed with your UK NARIC application, if you contact our services team either though your online account or at info@naric.org.uk and request a refund this can be arranged however a small administration fee maybe applied.

      I hope this helps

      Kind regards

  140. Hello
I hold a Ba Education degree from Kenya and l have a statement of compatibility from Naric UK. what other course am l supposed to do as to qualify to teach in England.
    Please advice

  141. I have a degree in philosophy from nigeria and I apply to study law as home student in uk, ami qualify for grant please?

    1. Hi Soni,

Unfortunately we are not aware of the requirements for grants and this may vary from one organisation to another. You would need to contact the organisation offering the grant for further details. If you need help clarifying the level of your award for this purpose the statement of comparability may be of assistance, further details of this service can be found here http://bit.ly/XrMrXO

  142. Hi NARIC
I got my comparability statement from NARIC , qualified from India, unfortunately, the statement says my science is below GCSE C grade, although I scored 78%, I am not satisfied with this as I believe 78% is a good score.
Kindly suggest what should I do, I need explanation why I was marked like that in the statement, it is really proving to be a big hurdle to get a nice job as A-C GCSE is the foremost requirement.
    Thanks

    1. Thanks for your post,

If you require further clarification or wish to appeal against the comparison made for the qualification, please put your concerns in writing to info@naric.org.uk along with your application number, this can then be looked into further by the information officer who completed the assessment and a further response regarding your application can be provided. Full details on our procedures can be found here: http://bit.ly/1nUZD4m

It is worth noting however, that the comparison is not a reflection of your individual marks but rather how an education system compares with that in the UK.

      I hope this helps

  143. Hi
Also, I would like to ask you is there any time period to ask for the clarification of the decision made regarding the comparability of my GCSE from India or to make an appeal as I am not satisfied with the statement, what is the earliest, one has to do this since the letter is issued please.
    Thanks
    Sundeep

    1. Hi Sundeep,

As long as your request for clarification is within 6 months of the original application, there is no further charge for pursuing any issues you may have had with the original assessment. The clarification / reassessment process will normally take a further 10-15 working days to provide an updated response which will be provided in writing.

      Kind regards

      UK NARIC

  144. My Filipino fiancee is a qualified teacher and will looking for to work as a teacher once she comes to stay with me in the UK. We were wondering if it would be good idea to get a statement of comparability first before applying to register for to able to teach in scotland and also can you explain more about the process and procedure for applying to teach in Scotland please?
There is also a possibility that we could be married before then and we were wondering if that would change anything in the application process for to teach in Scotland or not.
If possible could you provide a contact number as it would be good to maybe call should we have any more queries.
We look forward to hearing from you.
    Kind Regards
    Adam

    1. Hi Adam,

While the Statement of Comparability can certainly be useful when applying for work or courses if your partner is looking to work in a regulated profession such as teaching, it is always best to contact the appropriate authority first to clarify the procedures for entering or being recognised in that particular profession. In Scotland this is the “General Teaching Council for Scotland” Who can be contacted on 0131 314 6000 and their website is http://www.gtcs.org.uk

  145. Dear sir! I would like to know if I need to do the translation of my certificate before send to Naric for statement of comparability.the certificate is in Italian languages. Best wishes.jeton James

    1. Hi Jeton,

Thanks for your comment, when applying for the “Statement of Comparability” you will need to provide either certified translations or apply for the “Statement of Comparability with translation waiver service” While this won’t translate your documents it will allow us to assign your application to member of staff with the necessary language skills to handle your documents without translations.

Full details of our services can be found here: http://bit.ly/1s430wL

  146. hi naric Im a 4years graduate of Bachelor of Science in Philippines., not a license yet. my question is what must i do to accredited my credentials here in uk manchester..as i’d love to practice my profession and hoping to find a job in one of hospital here. do I need to study again.? please help…Im 5years married to british man but not a citizen yet. furthermore I have my Transcript of Records & Diploma as well.

    1. Hi Minah,

Thanks for your comment, while we can help to provide a comparison of your award in terms of its overall level in the UK, details for this service can be found here: http://bit.ly/XrMrXO. However this would not automatically allow you to work in a particular profession. Particularly, if the job you wish to continue in is regulated in the UK you will need to contact the appropriate authority to confirm the necessary requirements for registration in the UK. A list of regulated professions and their overseeing bodies can be found here: http://www.ecctis.co.uk/UK%20NCP/Organisations/Regulated%20professions.aspx

  147. Hi!

I have a 2 years BA and 2 years Masters degree from Pakistan which is equivalent to ordinary Bachelors degree ( as per NARIC statement). I then have an MSc from Bradford University (180) credits. I applied for UCAS ITT and my application was refused due to the fact that I have ordinary degree although I have MSc from UK. Now advise me what are my options, do I have to take a top up degree?

    1. Hi Munib,

We are sorry to hear about your current situation. However do remember that universities in the UK are autonomous so a refusal from one isn’t necessary a refusal from all. You should also be able to get further advice on becoming a teacher from the National College of Teaching and Leadership, who oversee this profession, they can be contacted on 0800 389 2500 or more information may be on their website: https://www.education.gov.uk/help/contactus/nctl.

  149. Hi,

    I hold:

-An Engineering degree(Ingenieur d’état), field:Pharmaceutical Process Engineering (2006) from Algeria.
    -A Master’s degree (Magister), field:Pharmaceutical Technology(2010) from Algeria.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

    Best regards

    Fahima

    1. Hi Fahima,

We can normally accept a provisional certificate in place of a final certificate in order to provide a comparison for an award. However, we will include a note to say that the final certificate wasn’t at the time of completion. Full details of the documents normally required and how to apply can be found here: http://bit.ly/XrMrXO

  150. Dear UK NARIC,

I now have with me the Certificate of Sponsorship from one of the UK employer and they want me to start by March 2, 2015. Being born in the country where English is not the first language, in order to pass the point system I need an IELTS certificate or an assessment from UK NARIC. In the absence of IELTS Certificate, can I use the result of my UK NARIC English Assessment as part of my working visa application? I had my degree assessed as well and now awaiting the documents to arrive. I got an email from UK NARIC informing me that my qualification is equivalent to UK Bachelors Degree (ordinary).

I believe the passing point is 70 for Tier 2 General working visa applicant. I now have the following:

30 points for Certificate of Sponsorship
20 points for the appropriate salary
10 points for the funds (for myself, wife and 2 child)

Please advice if I am ready to apply for working visa so I can report at the discussed start date. I am bringing my 2 kids (who are both excited) and a wife with me.

    Yours sincerely,

    Allan

    1. Hi Allan,

Thanks for your comment, I hope you are as excited as your family about coming to the UK,

Whilst we can’t comment directly on the Visa application process our latest blog post sheds some light in the way in which UK NARIC’s documents can be used for this purpose:

      http://uknaric.org/2015/01/30/uk-naric-statements-of-comparability-and-english-language-assessment-can-help-with-uk-visa-and-british-citizenship-applications/

But if in any doubt about the requirements for your application always double check the requirements on the home office website: http://bit.ly/1iQYdrc

      I hope this helps.

  151. Hello there

Can you please help me as i need to apply for indefinite leave to remain in UK with SET O form as dependent of my partner on Tier 1 general visa. I have completed my Masters degree in 2003 from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, India. To use this degree as english language requirement sufficient, will it be comparable to B1 Language test. Because i don’t to go ahead for it to be assessed if its not comparable to B1 test for SET O.
    Thanks

    1. Hi Sandeep,

We are only in a position to provide the English language assessment against a bachelors degrees not a masters. For the English language assessment we are unable to guarantee that your award will meet the C1 level of English (a higher level than B1) in the common european framework that this service benchmarks your award against before you apply as we would need to look into the details of your award before the assessment could be made.

      Best wishes

    2. I would like to share my experience. I got ILR in 2015 and I used my Masters Degree Certificate ( from Punjab, India) as a proof of English eligibility. The medium of my qualification was English and it was accepted by Home Office. If the rules haven’t changed and your medium of education was English and your Degree Certificate says so, then you can attach your Masters Degree Certificate with your application. Good Luck!! Once again check with UKBA what do they accept as English language eligibility.

  152. Hi,
what is the equivalent of an Italian degree (Aerospace engineering) in uk? Beng or Meng?

    Many thanks

    Red

    1. Hi Redoun,

Many thanks for getting in touch. We can certainly provide a comparison for Italian awards but unfortunately we are not in a position to comment on individual awards online.

For an informal assessment you can contact our service centre for advice of the most likely level over the phone: +448713307033 but for a written comparison you would need to apply for the statement of comparability: http://bit.ly/XrMrXO

  153. Hi,
I did diploma in general nursing and midwifery from india(Sir Ganga ran Hospital, school of nursing).I just wanted to know if this diploma is equivalent to the nursing diploma in Uk ?

    1. Hi Irene,

Many thanks for getting in touch. We can certainly provide a comparison for Indian awards but unfortunately we are not in a position to comment on individual awards on-line.

A statement of comparability from UK NARIC may assist you in obtaining a confirmation of the academic level of the award in the UK but as nursing is a regulated profession in the UK, It would be best to contact the General Nursing & Midwifery Council for advice on entering this profession. They can be contacted on +44 207 637 7181 and their website is http://www.nmc-uk.org

      I hope this helps.

  154. I have a Bachelor of Technology degree from GITAM University, visakhapatnam.I am specialized in Electronics and Communications Engineering with english as medium .I want to apply for tier2 UK visa.Could you please let me know if GITAM University is recognized by NARIC .

    1. Hi Harshavardhan,

However, without looking into your award and seeing your documents, UK NARIC would be unable to provide confirmation of the academic level for our Statement of Comparability or if the award was taught to a specified level of English for our English Language Assessment.

As we cannot comment on individual awards or institutions online more information maybe available by contacting our information advisers on +448713307033.

Details on how to apply for our services can also be found here: http://ecctis.co.uk/naric/individuals/

      I hope this helps.

  155. Hi

I did my senior school certificate examination (SSCE) in Nigeria and my degree in UK. I want to do my teacher training course and I would like to know if my SSCE results will be accepted and what is the equivalent in UK?

    Thanks.

  156. Hello Dear. I did my degree in B.S.C economics in India 4 years ago. Now I am looking for a jobs but cant get them, do you think because my degree is from India thats why its difficult for me to find jobs. I did a bit of volunteer work experience here but i think its not helping me much or I think that my degree needs to be equivalent to english degree first. Help me please what shall I do?

    1. Hi Jyoti,

Some employers maybe unsure where international awards are concerned so it may help to have a Statement of Comparability from UK NARIC to indicate your Indian awards level in the UK’s education system. However, this is by no means a compulsory document and it may well be worth contacting organisations before applying to see if they have any advice for candidates with international awards or contacting those you have already applied to for feedback on why your applications have been unsuccessful. It may also be worth contacting a careers service for advice on presenting your CV, awards and work experience to employers.

If you did wish to apply for the Statement of Comparability full details including how to apply can be found here: http://bit.ly/XrMrXO

      I hope this helps.

    1. Hi Jose,

if you are looking to work in the electrical field, it would be better to contact the joint industries board in the first instance, who are better placed to advise you on the steps to take in order to work in this profession:

      Telephone: 020 8302 0031
      Website: http://www.jib.org.uk/

UK NARIC can then assist in providing a statement of comparability should this be required to confirm the level of your awards in the UK.

      I hope this helps

  158. hi naric i have a question
i have a Iran-Diplom-Metevaseth (National High School Diploma) and a Iran-Pre-University Certificate both of them are in MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS , PLS i want to know how much point they will be in UCAS tarrif points?
because i’m applying online for UCAS
and i moved to london 2 month ago and i’m living in london
    thank you very much

    1. Hi Ali,

We are unable to offer information on UCAS points as part of our comparison process. These are not available for international qualifications.

Contact the educational institution to clarify their entry requirements for people with international qualifications – they may already have alternative entry routes for international candidates, which do not need UCAS points.

A UK NARIC comparison may still be required as this can provide comparison information to organisations – that helps them assess your qualifications and their level compared to UK qualifications.

      Kind regards

      UK NARIC

  165. Hi, I am currently living and working in the UK, I was born here in London but grew up and educated and work experience in Canada since age 5. I have a Canadian College Electronics engineering Diploma (I think same as HNC or more likely HND) and also from 7 years later another Canadian College electro-mechanical Engineering (I think same as HNC or more likely HND) but that course I was short two credits so no diploma but transcript. I was hired straight from the school and worked in many locations so never got the two classes but all other marks are very good to excellent. I have evidence of many years of technical Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical work, also an Industrial welding certificate, i returned late in life here in Uk and completed the Foundation year for a Mechanical Engineering degree at University of Bolton and also completed a Welding course (for refresher) at Trafford College (certificate course). I want to get an equivalency paper or document. Based on all educational papers and also work experiences and training (have some tech certs from work courses). I would also like know my NVQ equivalent. How would I do this? Send you all my documents in pdf? letters from employers, reference, etc I would like to further my education to degree level while working and also for maybe applying for other more progressive and challenging positions. How would I do this? How much (ouch ouch ouch) would it cost? How long would it take? Thanks, J

    1. Hi John,

Details on how to have your qualifications compared including how to apply can be found here: http://bit.ly/XrMrXO. These can be scanned and uploaded online. The process normally takes between 2-3 weeks and costs £55.20 + postage for all your awards to be compared.

Your UK awards will already be recognised in the UK and UK NARIC is only able to provide a comparishttps://uknaric.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php#comments-formon for national awards from overseas once completed and so would be unable to provide a comparison for the qualification, where you did not achieve sufficient credits. These however, are still worth highlighting to potential employers alongside your experience for consideration to help them to make an informed decision.

I hope this helps and wish you luck with your future career.

      Kind regards

  166. Hi, naric, I have pakistani bachelor of arts degree, and I want to equavlant to uk certificate, I want to apply naturalisation in the UK,so can u tell me pakistani becholer degree equivalent to B1 test in English speaking and listening. thanx

  167. Hi, Naric,
    I have two questions:

    1. I have an argentine degree, it was assessed as an British Bachelor Degree Standard. I intend getting into further education (PGCE Physics), and as far as I found out, I need to assess the grades of this diploma. How can I do?

    2. In order to enter to this course and get a bursary and scholarship, I need to prove C level in English and Maths. I think I can get a C level in maths since my physics degree is strongly related with maths. But I have a concern about English C level, I took the TOEFL recently. Is there anyway to obtain the C level from this or I should take some other test?

    1. Hi Andres,

We are able to provide a comparison for qualifications form Argentina. Although, we are able to provide comparability information for qualifications that constitute a national standard in the education system of the country of origin. Unfortunately but are unable to provide a comparability statement for individual grades obtained within these qualifications.

It is recommended that you present transcripts directly to potential admitting institutions alongside the statement of comparability for consideration so that organisations can make an informed decision as to whether your qualifications meet their requirements.

      Kind regards

      UK NARIC

      1. NARIC, Thank you for your answer, I think I just need to assess the qualification of the degree, not the grades of any single subject, but the statement that the classification of the bachelor degree is first class honours, 2:2, 2:1, and so on.

Still pending the answer of what I need to do to get an English and Math C level. Is the TOEFL and my Physics Degree enough or I should take other tests?

    1. Hi Geor,

We are able to provide comparability information for qualifications that constitute a national standard in the education system of the country of origin. Unfortunately we are unable to provide a comparability statement for individual grades obtained in these qualifications. The data presented on the government website is based on a project UK NARIC completed in the past and while a useful guideline is in no way binding.

It is recommended that you present transcripts directly to potential employers/admitting institutions alongside the statement of comparability for consideration on an individual basis in line with specific grade requirements.

      Best wishes

      UK NARIC

    1. Hi Hasna,

Yes but ultimately it depends on the requirements of the organisation or institution are looking for. UK NARIC can offer a document comparing your qualifications from Morocco to the UK’s education system, which would help potential employers understand the level of your qualification and more able to make an informed decision.

Details including how to apply can be found here: http://bit.ly/XrMrXO

      I hope this helps

  170. Is it possible to have the equivalent of your honors as well? My statement only mentions what UK degrees mine are worth but doesn’t specify what honors I got. I passed my Masters degree with a total mark of 14.6/20 which is a bit more than 70% and I can’t find what it officially stands for. The bursery I can get next year depends on what honors I had.

    1. Hi Camille,

      Thank you for your comment,

We are able to provide comparability information for qualifications that constitute a national standard in the education system of the country of origin. but are unable to provide a comparability statement for specific grades obtained in these qualifications.

It is recommended that you present transcripts alongside the statement of comparability directly to potential employers/admitting institutions for consideration on an individual basis in line with specific grade requirements.

I hope this information is of assistance to you

    1. Hi Sosamma,

  172. Hello, I am a dentist from India.I have done my Bachelors in dental surgery (BDS) and Masters in Dental Surgery (MDS) from Dr.NTR university of health sciences. My question is whether I could be awarded separetely for both the degrees. Thank you .

    1. Hi Archana,

The Statement of Comparability itself lists all the qualifications and comparison for an individual. However, a decorative UK NARIC certificate is available for individual awards after the initial statement of comparability has been obtained, should you wish to present your awards individually.

      I hope this helps

  173. Dear UK NARIC

I have a graduation degree from India in humanities (which is called B.A Bachelor of Arts ) now I would like to train to be a primary school teacher ,do I still need to get my degree evaluation done prior to apply for any courses.
I have done some childcare and education courses like NVQ Level 2 and 3 and been working with children for over 6 years.
I would really appreciate if you could explained to me what should my next step be as I would really want to start training from September 2015.

    Thanks
    Kind regards
    Vibha Sharma

    1. Hi Vibha,

Although the statement of comparability may be a useful document to have to explain the level of your awards in the UK. We would recommend speaking to the NCTL who regulate the teaching profession in the UK first. They can advise you on the best steps to take and whether a statement of comparability is needed.

National College for Teaching and Leadership (England). can be contacted on 0800 389 2500. Alternatively please visit http://www.education.gov.uk/help/contactus/nctl

  174. Hi,

I have a Bachelors and Masters degree in Psychology from India and I am now doing a PG Diploma Psychotherapy in the UK. I’d like to know if my Masters degree in India matches up to a Masters here in the UK. When I contacted the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy regarding this, they asked me to get my qualifications assessed by the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) and become a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) so that they may also assess my qualifications. I’m a little confused about this; do I need to approach the HCPC/BPS or the NARIC to get my qualifications assessed for Psychotherapy?

    Thank you.

    1. Hi So,

For registration on a professional basis the requirements are set by the British Psychological Society so you may wish to re-clarify with them but from the information provided your award needs to meet the requirements of the HCPC. The HCPC may require a statement of comparability in order to help make an informed decision in this regard or they may have the necessary information to do this already and will be able to provide you with the necessary confirmation to provide to the BPS.

UK NARIC’s statement is benchmark of the academic level of the award you hold in the UK rather than automatic recognition of the content meeting the accreditation requirements outlined by the HCPC or BPS.

      I hope this helps.

  178. To whom it may concern,

Firstly I would like to thank to UK NARIC due to the quick transaction time as it ensured to save my time whilst my application for “English Language Assessment” document from UK NARIC.
I graduated from Yeditepe University, English Business Administration. I applied for ELA and the level of English language for my degree course is considered to meet the requirements of CEFR level C1.But just to boost my application I applied for Statement of Comparability as well.
I will apply for my spouse visa in September and I applied for my SoC on 28th of July but my order status is still in “checking” status. I worry about whether it will be ready in 15 working days. If it is not ready, can I apply for my spouse visa with only ELA document. I will get my SoC anyway as I will need it in my future career plans. But as for applying for my spouse visa, I have limited time :/

    Kind regards,
    Ayse M.

  185. Ok, I got my Statement of Comparability today from UK NARIC. It states that my Degree “is considered comparable to British Bachelor degree standard”.

It does not specify whether Honours or Ordinary. Why is this???? I am totally lost.

    1. What does standard mean?
    2. Why does it not carry the title of Honours? or Ordinary?

    1. Hi Laura,

All our statements use the word standard, to indicate that this is the equivalent level of your award in the UK’s education framework. While we are unable to comment on individual applications online this classification is used when a degree demonstrates elements of both an Ordinary and Honours degree, but is not directly comparable to one of these degree types. If you are interested in clarifying your statement further please see our application procedures for further details

      I hope this helps

I sent my application to you for getting my qualifications compared to the UK standard…I got the response that my bachelor’s degree is comparable to British oddinary degree but my teaching qualification (Bachelor in Education) got the following response ‘The above is a one year full time course of teacher education. Whilst it is of no further academic standing than the preceding Bachelor degree, we can confirm that holders of this award are entitled to teach at the lower secondary level in India. UK NARIC certificate not offered this award’ The above statement doesn’t give me any clear understanding of the status of my qualification. Can you please suggest what should be done further to check my level status??

    1. Hi Stephanie,

We aren’t able to comment on individual applications online but you can request a clarification through your UK NARIC account.

  199. Hi im from morocco i have a question if i applied in naric for my bacalaureat science and diploma network informatic did i need to pass a exam or no. Please answer me i get confused

    1. Hi,

The role of UK NARIC is to compare your already completed qualifications from overseas to the UK’s qualifications framework. We do not set further examinations, but rather comment on the level of those qualifications you have been awarded.

I hope this clarifies our service.

  200. Hi. I have a Bachelor’s degree in education from the Philippines. I am now here in the UK after marrying my British husband. I have some queries before I decide to apply for statement of comparability.

    1. Will the school I came from affect my statement of comparability?
    2. some of the employers here ask for a GSCE. We don’t have such in the Philippines, but we do have something similar called NCAE. If I apply for a NARIC Comparability, can I include my NCAE certificate to get compared with GSCE?
    3. We have a licensure examination in the Philippines for teachers called LET. I understand that you don’t have such here in the UK. Can I still include it in my application, just to see whether it’ll be accepted here in the UK?
    4. I have a TESOL certificate issued from the Philippines. Do I also have to include it in my application.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you would be able to provide.

    Have a good day.

    -Jema

    1. Dear Jema,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

We are unable to comment on specific qualifications and/or their comparable level via social media. You can call us on (0044) (0)871 330 7033, Monday to Friday (between 9:00am and 5:00pm), to speak to an Information Adviser and they will be happy to discuss these with you further.

A number of factors are taken into account when making a comparison. These can include, amongst others, the status of the awarding institution, the duration of study and the learning outcomes achieved. We are able to compare completed, national qualifications that form part of the qualifications framework in the country of origin. We are unable to comment on awards that do not have a comparable level in the UK, that grant professional rights only or language proficiency awards.

You are welcome to upload the documents you have via our online application portal and a specialist can review these and advise you if we are able to proceed. Full details of the application process can be found here:

  204. I have statement from NARIC, that my Bachelor degree in Economics is considered comparable to British Bachelor (honours) degree. Looks like that is not enough in UK , to find a job I need to know my Recognised Accountancy qualification e.g. AAT, ACCA, CIMA, ACA etc. Could you advise me, how could I get that?

    1. Hi,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

The role of UK NARIC is to compare to the UK’s national framework of qualifications; we are unable to comment on specific awards offered by specific bodies, such as those offered by ACCA, CIMA etc. that you have listed. I would recommend contacting these organisations directly for advice as to how/ if you can equate your current studies to the award(s) they offer.

      I hope this helps.

  205. Hey I am student of Acca and I’m done with 12 Acca papers. I want to know if I can get UKNaric to apply for masters in Germany.

    1. Hi,

Thank you for your comment. We are unable to comment on specific qualifications via social media. The Statement of Comparability can compare your qualification(s) to the UK’s qualifications framework; you would need to check with the admitting institution(s) in Germany to see if they would accept a Statement from the UK NARIC.

Details of our equivalent organisation in Germany can be found here:

      http://www.enic-naric.net

Full details of how to apply for a UK NARIC Statement of Comparability can be found here:

  206. Hello,
I would like to understand and have some scholarly source for the definition of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science. Is there a guideline or some document on this?
    Thanks for your help.

    Luca

    1. Dear Luca,

      Thank you for your comment.

At UK NARIC, we compare to the national qualifications framework, and therefore to Bachelor’s degree standard rather than differentiating between Arts and Science subjects. In the UK, however, the decision as to whether to classify a subject area as either Arts or Science is at institutional discretion; the University of Oxford, for example, offers almost exclusively Bachelor of Arts degrees, including in conventionally considered scientific subjects such as Mathematics or Earth Sciences. There is therefore no absolute definition of which subjects would be considered ‘of Arts’ or ‘of Science’.

      I hope this helps,

      UK NARIC

  210. Hi,

I would like to enquirer if ACCA qualification is an academic qualification under the UK NARIC?

    Thanks.

    1. Dear Aaron,

      Thank you for your enquiry.

UK NARIC would consider the ACCA award to be a qualification that is professional in nature. However, we can provide a comparability of some ACCA awards to an academic level in the UK framework. For further clarification you can speak to one of our Information Advisers on 08713307033.

      I hope this helps.

  211. Hi!

  212. HI,

I’m currently residing in UK with a tier-2 dependant visa. I have a masters degree in vlsi and embedded system in engineering from India. I moved to UK soon after graduating with no prior work experience. Can I apply for internship jobs?
I will be sending in my certificates if I’m allowed to apply for internship. Can u please let me know.

    Thanks.

    1. Hi,

Thank you for your comment. We are unable to advise on working rights in the UK or entry requirements for internships. I recommend contacting the relevant internship provider(s) for more information regarding their requirements.

  213. Hi,

I’m going to scan and send you the documents I have for comparability digitally. Besides for comparability, I will pay for your translation service as well.

To help the translation team, I have already had the diploma and the transcripts translated here (unofficially).

I’m planning to e-mail these translations along with the documents in their original language, yet still pay for your translation service.

Are you open for and alright with this ?

    1. Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry. Our Translation Waiver Service means you do not need to provide certified English translations of your documents for documents issued in certain languages (please see our website for a full list of languages covered by this service). We do not translate documents; this service means a language specialist will work directly from the original language documents. We are unable to consider non-certified translations of documents when completing a Statement of Comparability.

      I hope this helps.

      1. Hii

Does your translation push the calendar forward? Will it be better to have it translated here at a certified agent and then send you the translation instead of having it transferred by your specialist?

  214. Greetings,
Im a dentist from iraq. and i want to take the ORE, but i am recommend to submmit a comparability report. My question is, what will happen if my university is not recognized by naric? What is there for me to do? And how can i be sure if my university is recognized or not? Pls help me.

    1. Thank you for your comment.

We are able to consider qualifications that have been awarded by accredited institutions in the country of origin. We do not have separately ‘recognised’ or accredited institution listings; this information is taken from the relevant authority in the original country. If your institution is accredited in Iraq, therefore, we would consider the institution recognised for the purposes of a Statement of Comparability.

      I hope this helps.

  215. I have a Master’s degree in electrical engineering from Poland – what is equivalent for UK standards? With this degree can I get NVQ – if so which lvl?

    1. Hi, we are unable to comment on the level of awards via social media.

A Statement of Comparability can confirm the level of your Polish qualification in the UK’s education system. Full details of the service, including how to apply, can be found on our website here.

  216. Hi UK NARIC,

    Good day!

I have already communicated with your advisers twice. I am very impressed with your team. You’ve been a great help with my concerns. However I believe they may not be sure on one of my queries.

I have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from a known university on the Philippines. I confirmed with your advisers that there are only four schools from which degrees obtained at those institutions were bachelor’s degree equivalent in the UK. Unfortunately, my university is not included on the four mentioned. May I ask if there will be a chance, in case I avail your service (UK NARIC for UKVI; red route for Tier 2 General visa application), that my degree is equivalent to that of a bachelor’s degree in the the UK. Or is this a general rule that all bachelor’s degrees obtained from all Philippine universities and colleges, apart from those 4 institutions, automatically equivalent to a diploma degree in the UK. Please take note that I may need that my degree to be a bachelor’s degree equivalent in the UK for me to be exempt from taking the IELTS (requirement of Tier 2 General visa for knowledge of English criteria). I would just like to measure the risks and rewards involved on whether to certify my degree with your team so your assessment would be helpful for me.

    Thank you Team!

    1. Hi, thank you for your enquiry.

We are not able to comment on comparisons via social media. As you have mentioned you have already done, advisers can provide a verbal indication of the level of your award via the telephone. You can submit your degree for consideration via the online application process; if it does not meet the required academic standard for the Visa and Nationality service (i.e. comparable to a UK Bachelor, Master’s or PhD standard), we would notify you as we would not be able to provide the service.

      I hope this helps.

      1. Hi Team,

Appreciated your prompt response on this. I really commend your team’s effort to answer and respond to queries.

        Thank you!

      2. Hi Team,

Already uploaded the documents on my UK NARIC account.

What would be the steps I need to take for you to be able to review my qualifications. I cannot go pass through the order summary page as it requires payment. Will I need to pay in order to receive your advice or notification if you could provide the service as you mentioned?

        Thank you, Team!

  217. Hi Team,

I have already contacted your advisers twice. I am very much impressed on how they handled my concerns. However, there is one issue that they may be unsure of the answer.

I have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in the Philippines. I was informed by your advisers that only four universities in the Philippines from which bachelor’s degrees have been obtained are considered to be equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in the UK. Unfortunately, my university is not included in the four mentioned. I will just confirm if there will be a chance, in case that I let you evaluate my degree (of course, to avail your services), that my degree may be that of equivalent to the UK? If yes, can you inform me of other basis from which evaluation is compared against other than by the institutions from the degree was obtained?

    Thank you, Team!

  218. Hi UK NARIC,

With respect to my email above, I may need that my degree to be equivalent to that of a Bachelor’s degree in the UK for proving my English proficiency (in addition that English should the exclusive medium of instruction for my degree) as I need this in the application of my Tier 2 General visa. In case that I decide to avail your services, I will be taking the red route (which will include a Statement of Comparability and a English certification – as discussed by your advisers to me.)

    Thank you again, Team!

  219. Hi Team,

I have already uploaded the documents on my UK NARIC account.
What would be the steps I need to take for you to be able to review my qualifications. I cannot go pass through the order summary page as it requires payment. Will I need to pay in order to receive your advice or notification if you could provide the service as you mentioned?

    Thank you, Team!

  220. Hi UK NARIC,

I am a postgraduate student from Italy, and I submitted my 3 overseas qualification (an Italian high school diploma and Swiss bachelor and master’s degrees) on the 26th of September. At the present date, the order status of my application is “checking”, but since I had to resubmit a certificate because it was not fully visible and properly scanned, I would like to ask you if the status implies that my documents are ok, in order to be sure that the statement of comparability will be issued in 15 working days + the delivery time.

I really thank you very much in advance for your kind help

    Alessia

    1. Hi,

We’re unable to comment on specific applications via social media, however you can send a message through the secure user portal and an adviser can check your specific application. The ‘Checking’ status means the documents are waiting to be checked by a regional specialist; checking can take up to five working days. Once it has been confirmed that we are able to proceed, the status will change to ‘In progress’.

      I hope this helps.

      1. Thanks a lot,

yesterday I received a message informing me that the status was updated to “In progress”.

I thank you very much in any case for your kind help!

  227. I have got Statement of Comparability from UK NARIC for my Bachelor (civil engineering)and Master’s (engineering management) degrees. When I applied for CSCS card for Managers after passing Health Safety and Environment Test , they issued me a CSCS card of academically qualified persons and not the black card for manager’s with a plea that I do not have NVQs level 5,6 or 7.. I told them that my qualifications and experience are much more than the NVQ Level they are asking but they are of the view that NVQ are pre-requisite. Could you please advise me how to satisfied them because in my understanding, if I have a higher qualification than NVQ level required for a specific card then I need not to do NVQ.

  229. I have a few questions before applying for SoC to find out if I need to attend a English Language test or not:

    2) What is the equivalent British degree for Section A & B exams from this university?

I want to know this information ahead to save time as SoC takes 15 days and English Language Test happens only once in a month and test slot need to be booked 4 weeks early.

  232. Hi,

I called the Help-line to check if the following institute from India is in the list or not:
    ‘The Institution of Engineers (INDIA)’.

I was told that they are not able to find it in the NARIC list.

But I see a person posting in a public form claiming that he received a comparability statement from NARIC:

  233. Why is it Universities do not accept the UK NARIC conversion of nurses who graduated from the Philippines ? Nurses has to repeat the whole degree course despite the conversion is equivalent to level 4 ?

    1. Thank you for your comment.

As UK higher education providers are legally independent they set their own entry requirements. As a result we are not able to advise on further study as this is up to where you are applying. I recommend contacting institutions directly for further advice.

  236. Hello
I have done B.Ed and M.Ed from pakistani University, Is that equilent to QTS?
I have degree certificate and transcript of B.Ed but only trancript of M.ED, will NAric provide me statement of comparability without having M.Ed degree?

    1. Dear Anna,

Teaching in the UK is a regulated profession overseen in the UK by the National College of Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) who you will need to contact for clarification on the full steps to take to work as a teacher in the UK but the Statement of Comparability, UK NARIC offer may well assist you in clarifying your qualifications to them (http://bit.ly/XrMrXOhttp://bit.ly/XrMrXOhttp://bit.ly/XrMrXOhttp://bit.ly/XrMrXO). For more information on the becoming a teacher in the UK and the NCTL’s contact details can be found here:

      https://www.education.gov.uk/help/contactus/nctlhttps://www.education.gov.uk/help/contactus/nctlhttps://www.education.gov.uk/help/contactus/nctlhttps://www.education.gov.uk/help/contactus/nctl

In order for UK NARIC to provide a comparison of your qualifications to the UK framework we do require a final certificate and academic transcript. However, we may be able to provide a comparison without your final certificate if there is sufficient evidence of completion on the academic transcript.

Best of luck with your enquiries

  237. I was filling online form for statement of comparability for my Bachelor degree, I was confused to see the following statement appeared on last screen

“Please note that the Statement of Comparability:

Will not compare overseas qualifications to a specific UK award title, e.g. Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Engineering.”

The whole point of me applying to NARIC is get my Bachelor recognized in the UK. Does not the above statement contradicts this fact?

The other point is that my qualification was taught in English but NARIC online tool does not give me option for English in Language of instruction section.

Thanks for clarifying these two points, whether its worth for me to apply?

    1. Dear Khadija,

      Thank you for your comment.

The role of UK NARIC is to assess and compare national levels of overseas qualifications, in order to determine their standing in the UK education system. As you may appreciate, no education system is the same and different countries attach different value to certain aspects of education. The assessments we provide are based on the education system in a particular country rather than individual degrees and courses and are therefore a reflection of that system rather than an individual’s personal levels of achievement and capabilities. The interpretation of grades and determination of degree classifications – where appropriate – is carried out by admitting institutions / employers in the UK in the context of the system in which that award was obtained.

So as an example if you studied a Bachelor Degree in Engineering we would provide a statement to confirm the comparative level would be British Bachelor (Honours) Degree standard. We would not comment on your specialisation.

The Statement of Comparability will not comment on your level of English proficiency so this field is not applicable.

I hope this is of assistance.

  238. hello

i have done MSC in mathematics from Pakistan which according to UK NARIC equivalent to UK masters degree but UK NARIC didnt tell my degree classification and the thing is where ever i have applied for teacher training they asked my degree classification..please help how can i found my degree classification??

    1. Dear Farah,

      Thank you for your email.

The role of UK NARIC is to assess and compare national levels of overseas qualifications, in order to determine their standing in the UK education system. The grading or classification is not a service that we can provide. This would be at the discretion of the institution or employer you are applying to. As your are applying for teacher training you may need to contact the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL). The National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) is able to offer advice on becoming a Teacher, Initial Teacher Training, recruitment opportunities or provision of relevant training.

      Their contact details are:
      Telephone 0800 389 2500

  239. Hi,
I have a Bachelor Degree in Geography from “Al. I. Cuza” University, Iasi (Romania) and a Master Degree in Political Science from National University of Political Studies and Public Administration, Bucharest (Romania) and I want to know if I can make them equivalent to UK degrees in a manner that will make them equal to ones done here. Also I want to know if by making them equivalent the employers will see them as having the same value as UK ones. Moreover I want to know if the master degree will be recognized as a base for a Phd application.
    Thank you

    1. Dear Alexandru,

      Thank you for your comment.

The role of UK NARIC is to assess and compare national levels of overseas qualifications, in order to determine their standing in the UK education system. Our Statement of Comparability service will confirm the level of your overseas education to an academic level in the UK. As an example we can confirm if a Bachelor Degree from “Al. I. Cuza” University, Iasi is considered comparable to a British Bachelor degree standard in the UK.

A UK NARIC Statement of Comparability can be used to support applications to Higher Education Institutes, potential employers and other professional bodies. Each institution have their own entry requirements and admission is strictly at their discretion.

      I hope this helps.

  245. Hi,

I just got my NARIC report which says that my Hungarian BSC in Computer Science (Foiskolai oklevel, I achieved it before the bolognese process) is considered comparable to British Bachelor (ordinary) degree. Since every University in the UK asks for honoured degree for its MSC education, may I know why this Ordinary degree exists at all in your system, and where can I check out what BSC should I have from Hungary to considered as Honoured degree in the UK? Since now in Hungary everybody gets BSC degree which is completely same and equivalent with my “Foiskola Oklevel” . Does it mean that none of the Hungarian BSCs are considered comparable to British Bachelor (hons) degree?

I have comparability statement from UK NARIC to my master’s degree as equivalent to UK master’s degree. My degree was taught in English. Can I use this letter to prove that it is equivalent/above the English B1 level which is a requirement of Home Office for ILR application. Please advise.

    1. Hi Ishtiaq,

      Thank you for your comment.

  252. Hello NARIC,

I’m nursery nurse from Greece and I was wondering if the statement of comparability for the early years sector is acceptable to work in Scotland. Moreover which are the differences between the statement of comparability and the statement of comparability for the early years sector?

    Kind Regards,
    Ariadni Tsatsaroni

    1. Hello Ariadni Tsatsaroni,

      Thank you for your comment.

Our statements compare qualifications from overseas to the UK’s national qualifications frameworks.

The UK NARIC Statement of Comparability provides information on the comparability of the qualifications you have submitted, if appropriate. Please see our website for further information: http://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/Statement%20of%20Comparability.aspx

The UK NARIC Statement of Comparability for the Early Years Sector provides information on one of your qualifications, and includes the comparability of your award. It also contains information relevant for registration with the National College for Teaching and Leadership, if you plan on working in Early Years Education in England. Please see our website for further information: http://www.naric.org.uk/naric/individuals/Compare%20Qualifications/Comparability%20for%20Early%20Years%20Sector.aspx

      1. Me personally it didn’t help the statement of comparability I m still unemployed besides the fact of having applied continuously

      2. Thank you UK NARIC for your guidance, I have also another question in the matter of Statement of comparability for the Early Years Sector. What is the copy that you need about the evidence of the age range covered by my qualification? I have already came in contact with my Vocational Training Institute- IEK and they send me a document that is not official because there is not a hallmark in it and I can’t translate it. Do you definitely need this document about the evidence of the age range to send me the statement of comparability for the Early Years Sector?

        Kind Regards,
        Ariadni Tsatsaroni
